Ok im confused about...EVERYTHING. as far as RP V.S. PvP im sorta leaning towards the RP side because of the fact that pvp only characters cant go to the pve side but i also heard its rly hard to get a pve char the perfect weapon (and plus idk how long it takes to get an RP character to lvl 20)

Next, I have trilogy so idk where to start in the games *prof, factions, or nightfall) It doesn't matter to me though....I just want to go to the one that is the most fun.

Last the characters. I know nothing about them lulz (I mean I know what each one does but not sure what to pick. I was leaning towards the mesmer side because they looked pretty cool but ranger seemed fun too with the beast mastery. I know that you can use a duo class system but idk what works well together).

Hmm. Well, if you're not insanely crazy about doing PvP, I do suggest starting over on the PvE side. You can always do PvP with your PvE characters. Besides, you'd have to unlock skills and weapons in PvE to get them on a PvP character. Or you could just go the expensive route and buy skill/weapon unlock packs in the in-game store. Unlocking skills and weapon modifications just means finding them in-game (PvE).

I kinda suggest starting with Prophecies, since it's at a much slower pace. You'll be taking baby steps through everything and Pre-Searing is a pretty nice newbie area. Plus the storyline really begins there.

Mesmers are fun, but don't be discouraged if you find that they don't do a lot of immediate damage. They can go crazy with degen damage and are great for interrupting enemies. Their Fast Casting attribute is amazing. Mesmers can do SO much in the game. But, they're slow in the beginning.

I suggest you start with a Ranger just to get the feel for things since that's a much more general MMO class (Typical bow attacks). You can have a pet, which appeals to many people. Rangers can also interrupt with bow attacks, set traps, deal enormous amounts of DPS, and they're pretty hearty survivors.

If you're up to a challenge though and feel like you are willing to be patient with understanding Mesmers, by all means, make one! They're definitely one of my top 3 favorite classes.

And you're right, you'll be able to have two classes. You can change your secondary class later on in the game and switch between them whenever you like so don't feel like your choice is set into stone. Your secondary class will give you access to all the skills of that profession as well as your primary skills.

Oh! One thing I forgot. I'm always happy to help someone out, so PM me in-game any time.

WHERE DO YOU THINK

W/

Getting to level 20 in Factions is maybe a day of hard play, a little more for Nightfall and the most for Proph. Getting "the perfect weapon" is extremely easy, not to mention max armor. The game starts at level 20, 1-19 are just are pretty much the beginner levels.
Prophecies has a slow learning curve and eases the player in. Other then that pick any class combo and go forth and conquer.

I may start with the ranger and get 2nd class as mesmer, depending on what i find would go along with the skills....I think i wanna start out on nightfall because it sounds fun and lets see....... If i tried to use my other 2nd class skills would i have to switch weapons or go to some npc to flip flop my classes?

Oh and is the warrior class the only one that can tank?

First off, you might not want to double post. They're pretty tight about the forum rules around here.

Anything can tank, technically. Warriors are what most people prefer, though. Since they have more armor. I've seen Dervish and Paragons (Paragons have as much armor as a warrior) and Elementalists tank from time to time, but it depends on where you're at really and who you're with.

And to use your second class skills, you wouldn't have to do anything other than put them on your skill bar.

o sorry XD, yeah so then all ur attacks that are regular are your primary proffessions wep but you can use any skill either proffesions have as long as you have your primary profs weapon right?

Tanking isn't really a preferred tactic in this game though. Unlike other MMOs, tanks are not required for regular play, and are infact, a fairly weak tactic to use. The skilled players NEVER use tanks (not counting SF gimmick farms).

Warriors are actually a good provider of DPS.

Well you can equip any weapon. A warrior can carry around a Fire Staff if he wanted to, but he might not do much good with it.

Some skills require certain weapons to be used. Your bow attacks require a bow, sword attacks require a sword, scythe attacks require a scythe, etc. Other skills, such as spells, don't require any certain weapon.

And about tanking not being necessary, tanking is extremely helpful in higher level areas and it can even be helpful in lower level areas. True, you don't NEED it early on, but I think it's fair to say that tanking is more than "weak".

Whats SF? oh and I def want to make a mesmer and currently looking at builds i can do but some of the builds have dif main game skills in it (like 3 faction 3 core and 2 nightfall) and I though u couldnt cross over skills in the games unless its from core to the others

Nope, you can get any skills if you have all of the games installed. Core just means that the skill is available in all of the campaigns.

SF = Shadow Form. It's a build that assassins use.

Yep! You can get skills from anywhere so long as you have that campaign/expansion installed.

Good, final question (well thesis). To unlock any skill I must have done it with an RP character. So If I want a specific build with multi campaigns i must have already unlocked that skill from RP mode and played that campaign. So basically it would take some time to do this or is there another way?

Well going through with a RP character is one way of doing it. You can also PvP and get Balthazar faction and unlock skills with faction on the Great Temple of Balthazar.

You can unlock them for your account and all PvP characters. If you buy a Skill Tome, you will be able to learn that unlocked skill on a PvE character.

I'd suggest not bothering too much about your build at this point. You'll find out soon enough if your build is viable. Because later on you can change your secondary at will, added to the fact you can also reshuffle your attribute points you can't do much 'wrong' in Guild Wars.

i would recommend starting in prof. mesmers are nice but like ppl have said you need more skills b4 they are really good. if you just play through the game ie. not power leveling you will prob be 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through prof b4 you reach lvl 20 and it is the longest campaign. i think when i first started playing that took me about 2 weeks. in factions it would prob take you about 3-5 hours of playing to get to lvl 20. i would recomend starting a mesmer in factions bec you get to the mainland which is where you can get max armor and travel to the other campaigns from in about 2-3 hours playing and that way you can get the different skills you need faster than in prof where you are a good way into the game b4 you can travel to factions and nf. nightfall falls between the 2 it will prob take a while to get to lvl20 but not anywhere as long as in prof. it has a good beginers area and will also give you heros which are npcs that you get to select the skills that they use and what weapons they have.
if you have any questions pm me here or in game
my main char is Vanir Vor gotten kind of board latly so would love to help you out
i can even show you a few different classes and the builds that i like the best for them so you can see some of what they do.

I feel like I need to tell you this as it's crucial to understand this when you choose your class and secondary profession. Every class has their own separate list of attributes. For example, Rangers have Expertise, Wilderness Survival, Beast Mastery, and Marksmanship. Expertise is what's called a "primary attribute" for the Ranger class. Every class has their "primary attribute" as well as other attributes known as "secondary attributes". For the Ranger, the secondary attributes are all the ones I listed before besides Expertise (which is its primary attribute). For your character's secondary profession, you will only be able to put points into that classes secondary attributes. So if I'm a Warrior/Ranger, I can only put points into the Ranger's secondary attributes, so not Expertise. However, as a W/R, I can still use Expertise skills, I just can't put attribute points into the Expertise category. Obviously, putting attribute points into a specific attribute makes skills of that attribute more powerful. So, using skills of your secondary profession's primary attribute is often not such a good thing to do because they will be at their weakest state, as you can't make them better by putting attribute points into that primary attribute. I know that may be confusing but it's very important to understand. Please ask if you have any questions concerning this topic.

With balthazar faction you can unlock any skill of any campaign you have purchased (1k faction for a regular skill, 3k faction for an elite skill) except for pve skills (which cannot be unlocked but must be earned on a char you plan to use them on and cannot be used in pvp). to unlock a skill just speak with a priest of balthazar (for example in great temple of balthazar or your gh).

Also, different classes has different max armor, with different stats and which gives different base energy and different energy regeneration. For example: wars have max armor of 80ar with inherent +20ar against physical dmg, while rangers have 70ar with inherent +30ar against elemental dmg, the ranger chests gives +5energy (to the base of 20 energy every char has) and +1 energy regeneration (to the base +2 energy regeneration). Also theit primary attribute has different effects: war's strenght gives them 1% of armor penetration for every point added in it, ranger's expertise reduces energy cost of attacks, rituals, touch skills and ranger skills by 4% for every point invested in it. The same applies to eevry other profession. This way a w/mo (80ar +20ar vs physical, 20 base energy, +2 energy regen) will not (cept rare cases) have similar role to a mo/w (60ar, 30 base energy, +4 energy regen) - the monk will cast spells, staying midline/backline, while the war will go frontline with a build either based on mostly adrenaline skills or with energy attack skills but using something like Warriors Endurance to counter the lack of energy and it's slow regen.
