100% CPU Usage?

I just built this computer and I have a Quad-Core Processor and 4GB Ram and a high end NVIDIA Graphics card in it.. When I was at college it ran great.. now that I'm home... I get random 100% CPU usage just from guild wars it seems to be running at 320k+ when I check it in the processes tab under Task Manager.

Any ideas? I followed this guide.. http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/g...t10317918.html, And I still seem to get... 600+ ping, and 9 FPS when I usually run at 60FPS++. Oh and still 320k+ process and 100% cpu usage.

100% is never normal, I just system restore it to a date when it never did it. There is probably a better solution to this though

I reformatted since then... but even before the reformat it did it.. And I have reinstalled it multiple times.

EDIT:
Geforce 9500 GT is what I have for graphics, I just checked and there is an update. I will let you know how it goes.

EDIT:
Did nothing...
Gw.exe is running at 350k in my processes tab haha.

The memory usage is normal for gw.exe I have had it much higher to be honest. Your cpu usage could just be one core being used at 100% and not all 4. I suggest installing a sidebar cpu monitor or other multicore cpu software to determine if it is using all 4 cores at 100 or just the one.

I have an E4500 Intel Core 2 Duo. As far as I can see, Guild Wars is using only one core at a time, and at about 50% while I have GW full screen. Once I minimize GW and put it background, it's raising it's usage to 100% on that single core. I find this to be normal. Is that what's happening to you?

It does it even in game with full screen.. it's really random when it happens..

I'm surprised no one suggested opening Task Manage and checking the performance tab. On multi-core systems, it shows the usage of ALL the individual cores. See if only 1 core is running at 100% or all 4.

Varies, but most of the time I don't what gets me is.. even If i put it to the lowest settings it will jump between 105FPS and like 7-10FPS.

And it's all GW doing it because I can run.. AIM Firefox Music and other stuff and only have like 1% CPU Usage...

Try setting GW to 1 of the 4 cores in Task Manager. It shouldn't be putting your Quad core to 100% unless you got a virus or something

I watched the Resource Monitor for a little bit this is what I have found...

Gw.exe runs at an average of 47% CPU Usage. When CPU Usage spikes up to 100% it's usually caused by, perfmon.exe when I have Firefox running, but when I don't.... it is cause by svchost.exe (LocalServiceNetwordRestricted)..

Hope that helps some.

Win7ult 64x

stock e8500 (dual core 3.16Ghz)
Gw running
FF running
Winamp running
(among various others)

have you tried setting the Affinity of your cores in relation to GW?
task manager->Gw.exe->right click->set affinity->all processors*
*if it is set to all processors, perhaps try setting it to just 2 cores. 0 and 1.

Alright, so I have been messing around with stuff lately.. Cleaning registry, Malwarebytes found a worm in my registry... cleaned that out... Avast found nothing on my HD or my External HD... I downloaded a program called Gamebooster, which eliminates all background anything.. it gets rid of the aero effect... i mean everything... and... TADA... still 100% cpu usage due to GW.exe lol... I'm lost I have no idea what to do....

I remember reading somewhere that guild wars has problems running on multi-core processors. Try this:

1) While Guild Wars is running load TaskMan
2) Under the Processes tab, right-click GW and choose "Set Affinity..."
3) Tick only ONE of the boxes (untick the others).

What this does is forces Guild Wars to run on one CPU and only one CPU. This may/may not solve a it but it should reduce its CPU usage down a bit. Also if you’re running any unnecessary background programs just exit them to reduce CPU load further.

Ok, just tried it... closed everything... I mean everything, then I even ran GameBooster...

Results:
7-60FPS
It will go nice at 60FPS for a little bit and then all of a sudden 5-6FPS for a couple seconds... then back to 60FPS... it's so weird
