New builds for Chapter 2
roku-dragonslayer
Well, we've got 2 new professions, and some new skils for our existing ones. I think it's time we got together and thought of some new builds. This should be a good place to gather all of them, and I'm posting it early, so everyone should post their builds here instead of in 20 different therads. You can use the old and new proffesions, and all of the skillls, old and new. Just make sure you're using some new stuff for ex: a R/Mo with some of the new Monk skills. Post your best builds you can tihnk of here. You don't have to have skills or anything even. Just try to come up with ideas. Here's one of mine:
A Ritualist/Monk
They can use monk skills to heal and protect their spirits, since it seems that some skills take health from the spirits. I don't really know how the spirits work, but it seems like a good idea.
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I didn't really know where to post it.

Ritualist and Assasin.

A little early to be thinking up of new builds without access to a skill list and some hands-on work. (Some skills look cool in theory but turn out to be kind of crappy).
I plan on turning my Mesmer into a Mesmer/Assassin, at least for a while. I can see that as having a lot of good stopping power. Alternatively, an Assassin/Mesmer. You'd need fast-cast a little less, I think.

Can't wait to be a MM with that new elite minion spell. Though I fear the energy cost of it, as well as casting speed and recharge time. Still will be exciting. Its on my list of first things to go after when I buy Chapter 2.
Both new professions sound awesome.

Kariston The Swift
I plan on starting one of the new spike builds. A little hint. It involves Ride the lightning :P
Eugaet
I'm planning on trying out an Assasin/Ranger and/or Ritualist/Ranger. Assuming I get the extra char slots to do so...
Age
Where does it say Ritualist and talk about the new skills?

What about an assassin Ele ?
Teleport > shock > Aftershock > retreat, wait for energy.
edit: now that i think about it, you don't even need à guild thief in gvg with an assassin, i smell some sort of gankway.

I personnally think an As/N hex spammer could be fun... Hit with soul barbs, a couple necro curses (i.e. Rigor Mortus) and then an Assasin hex, teleport, critical hit and boom... dead foe

How about a mass teleport griefer build? Kill enemy ghostly hero and hold halls forever while hopping around... Or ritualist enhanced minion/pet IWAY?!

Not really related to the topic, but it seems that the Assassin will be an overpowering class. Being able to teleport alone is a huge advantage, and add to that the ability to deal out massive single hit damage makes for a force to be reckoned with. I do however have faith in the GW team that the Assassin class will mesh nicely among the other classes and not be an overpowering class.
A teleporting touch necro sounds pretty leathal.
Maybe ever a teleporting trapper, LOL.

They are probably going to be able to teleport to something targeted. Dunno if its going to be a friend or if it must be a foe, but even so chasing around a character (doesnt even have to be a monk) who teleports at will is just going to suck something i dont want to think about. There are run speed buffs and debuffs, i wonder if some kind of teleport anchor is going to be introduced too....
Personally im more disgruntled about how they are allowing ch1 characters to goto ch2 and make the new profession secondary and sponge off all the skills far more rapidly than a new character starting out in that chapter. This would be in addition to faster than anyone with 10k faction stored up as well. Sure they could get 7 regular skills and 1 eliete with 10k, but they had better pick precicely the right ones.

As/Mo or Mo/As (As=Assassin) will probably be my chapter 2 character. Why? Fast running + healing = run when bad things come your way.
Ri/E (Ri=Ritualist) -->Ward + Spirit/area heal.
Me/Ri--> Healing & energy drains

I suggest that you stop trying to find fault in my commentary because you have not pointed out anything inherently flawed or self serving in my statement. On the otherhand you have several comments that are vauge, irrelevent, or self serving in nature.

I was excited about the Assassin, but the Ritualist sounds wicked cool. With extra slots, I can't wait to try out both. A Ri/Me or Ri/N would be some fun combos to try out.
Hell Marauder
Assassin/Ritualist sounds a lot like Warrior/Monk from the good old days.....
myword
i'm pre-emptively calling for a Nerf on Ritualist and Assassin skills.

The article made it sound like Assassins are going to be a lot more offensive than Warriors, so I think the number of PvP warrior's will decrease =/
The Protector's Stance Warrior's get doesn't even sound that great. It costs 10e with a 60 second cooldown. It gives a 75% chance for others to block attacks and lasts "x" amount of seconds. It end prematuraly (sp) if the warriors move... Doesn't sound worth it to me. A dead weight warrior there just so that others can have a 75% chance to block attacks? Might as well put it on a caster or someone who isn't so restriced by their movement.

im telling u from what ive heard assassin class is over rated. the other class is suppose to be amazing though. ive heard this from a fairly reliable source but if u dotn want to take my word on it thats fine. thats just what ive heard.

I think assassins sound cool and all with teleporting and other stuff. But dont forget other classes will get counters for them too. Maybe a new mesmer spell like
- Teleportation sickness : gives a random condition to anyone who tries to teleport in its AoE
- Maybe a ranger spirit which doubles energy cost and reduces range on teleportations?

Finally found the right thread for this. Even if it is a year old. Here are some builds that I could see myself running as a result of Factions:
Deadly Earthen Arts (DEA) PvP (maybe PvE) Build
-----------------------------------------------
Classes: E/A
Focus Attributes: Earth Magic, Energy Storage and Deadly Arts
Skills:
Assassin: Deadly Arts
---------------------
Dancing Daggers
Entagling Asp
Scorpion Wire
Elementalist: Earth
---------------------
Armor of Earth
Aftershock
Shockwave {Elite: factions}
Earth Attunement [or Aura of Restoration or Ward Against Melee]
Other
---------
Res Signet (or one of the other two choices above if you don't need)
How to Play: First put up Armor of Earth (or Earth Attunement followed by Armor of Earth). Then target a weak looking foe, preferably in a small group. Scorpion wire the foe to knock it down and bring yourself directly on top of it. This will knock the foe down. Aftershock. This should 150+ to that foe and ~ 75+ damage to surrounding foes. Shockwave. Because of your proximity, you should hit all nearby foes for maximum (41X3 or 123) damage. Ward now if you have it, otherwise, hit dancing daggers followed by entagling asp to knock a foe down (either the same one or another one if the original is dead). Aftershock. Shockwave. If anything is left standing, rinse and repeat.
Shadow Mesmer: Illusion Variant
-------------------------------
Classes: Me/A
Focus Attributes: Shadow Arts, Illusion, Remainder in Fast Casting
Skills:
Assassin: Shadow Arts
----------------------
Shadow Refuge
Viper's Defense
Mesmer: Illusion
----------------
Accumulated Pain
Conjure Phantasm
Clumsiness (or Res Signet)
Distortion
Images of Remorse
Ineptitude {Elite: Prophecy}
How to Play
---------------------
Toss out Conjure Phantasm followed by Images of Remorse and accumulated pain. Let the (hopefully feeling spiteful) attacker turn its attention towards you. If you would be struck, ineptitude, then viper's defense if it keep trying. Toss out Distortion and Shadow Refuge when you need a short breather in between hexes. Keep doing this until the attacker dies. (If the attacker is smart and runs off you can still toss around your degens on the nearest foes).
That should be enough for now. I'll post more as I they come, I suppose. Thoughts?

I still have one slot occupied by a lvl 20 Mo/Ri. I hope I can keep it to show off on the newbies :P
Please Anet, let me keep the elite spells and the Mo/Ri? Please, pretty please. And don't make it an pvp only, or I'll have to delete it.

this thread makes me think that most of you didn't play the FPE. also, guildwiki.org has a Build Stubs area, just watch that for new builds. it's a better repository than a forum thread.

1st prediction: we'll see an explosion of W/Rt, using the ashes spells as a book trick everywhere in PvEdom. This will last until the book trick is nerfed with an AI tweak, so enjoy it while you can. Defiante Was Xinrae looks like an interesting ashes spell to foil casters, but it's 25 energy, 25 recharge, has a max. of 10 seconds and uses your Elite spot, so you can't use with Glad's Stance. Mighty Was Vorizun goes to 51 seconds at max attribute and throws in good armor and energy bonuses, so I suspect it could be the ashes spell of choice, even if Anguished Was Lingwah will last up to 126 seconds if maxed out.
Recharge time isn't so much an issue, since you can only have one Flesh Golem at any given time (if you recast, the old one dies as the new one rises). One of the nice things about it though is that it leaves an animatable corpse, so you can bring him up again later, or use for something else.
Approx. 40 energy at level 20 will rein him in a bit. Plus, with teleportation skills, a person will have to have good timing and navigation to keep from getting reckless. I'm guessing it will be relatively balanced for all but the most skilled assassins.

When I played the preveiw I noticed the one thing I feared about the Assassin. LOW ENERGY POOL >_<. So more then likely I'll go with a As/Me combo/energy tapper. I think that will be fun and hopefully effective. I'm just hoping cast time don't kill the build idea. The main two skills I need to start is Ether Feast to gain life back, and energy tap. That way I can heal recharge energy and unleash another wave of deathly combos upon my enemies. I think this will be effective againt warriors and spellcasters. I have a vamp/energy tapper N/Me7 but I think that there are more useful builds out there for that proffesion type.

This is before both of the Factions events.
It's no longer necessary at all, considering that we've added campfire sections for Ritualist and Assassin, so I'm going to close it.
Thread Resurrection in and of itself is not inherently bad, but resurrecting a thread that is no longer applicable or necessary is a bit pointless.
Particularly when it confuses people.
