Email NCsoft?
Tommy's
Hey, please if this already exist or in the wrong place move
Yesterday I got this email from NCsoft. Or at least it makes me think it's NCsoft but I'm not sure, cause its kind of a weird email. This is the email:
When you receive this message at the same time means that you have a routine account of our recent examination, was checking your account we have the evidence to prove that involved in the controversial game currency transaction so we had to take the necessary measures.
Please visit our web site LINK as soon as possible to activate your account or we will suspend your account.
The NCsoft Team
The email adress that send it was [email protected]. Normally I wouldnt give a shit about my NCsoft account, but I figured I would need it from GW2, so actually I do now
So I was wondering if this was a real email or a fake one with keyloggers and mean hackers involved. I haven't opened the link yet, because I don't know what bad/good will bring me. Anyone knows?

Just the fact that the English is atrocious means that it's fake.

It is using a virus which makes it look like it is from NCsoft, but they send it through them to mask the true identity, almost all viruses/scams do this to not arrouse suspision. If you click on the link in the email it will take you to a site which looks like the NC soft site, but look at the adress bar and it isnt a secure website, or the official one.
also yes the grammer is very bad lol, i got a similar email to this and i just laughed.

It's fake.
"When you receive this message at the same time"?
Yeah, I have to give NC something: At least they can type proper English.
I wouldn't worry about it. They're not going to tell you to visit xyz site. They don't even tell you when your account has been compromised.

Now that I think about it, sounds like a bad babel fish translation.
Chinese to English, maybe?

Ok thanks Glad I didn't open it then ^^ I already was thinking the english was bad, but as mine isnt that well either I thought I might have been wrong :P
Any idea how they got to my email adress? I never fill in this email at sites I don't know. They sneaked it out of NCsofts database?

but yeah the link doesn't direct where it says it does just like plaync.com links to guildwarsguru (thought about putting a different site in...but I don't wanna get banned tonight ) rather then plaync...done differently but same concept

Either way, someone typing with their elbows would make a more convincing e-mail.

It's usually very easy to tell that this type of email is a fake.
The layout, grammar, spelling and such like are often of a low standard.
If you examined the email headers, you would find that the real origin of the email is not who it says it is. Often these emails are sent by unsuspecting people whose PC or Hotmail/GMail account has been compromised.
More often than not there is a link to a fake website.
If you examine the link closely, it will usually be similar to the real website but have one or more deliberate spelling errors or the substitution of a number for a letter of similar shape.
The spammer/scammer/phisher hopes that you won't notice this difference and will happily part input your login details on his fake website.

I never ever respond to such emails esp if they have a link to click on.
Instead I go to the real comapany address and enclosing a copy of the email so they can act if its a scam.

We have evidence to prove your account has been in different countries and regions, several attempts to login.
So we have to remind you to enter our web site as soon as possible https://secure.ncsoft.com/login to account verification, otherwise, we will be lock your account.

It looks as if it was sent by NCSoft but when look up the Return-Path you find its just anoter hotmail account and if you examine the link in the mail you find its actually a simple http connect to secuer-ncsoft.com instead of the https-link... so you better dont click it

That's actually a pretty good idea, Angel. There are an awful lot of these emails being send around these days. I have also heard various reports of WoW account emails being send, to people who don't even have a WoW account....
A sticky like that would require the help of every one who has had a fake email, to PM us the email and the link that they were send. I'll make a suggestion for this, see what the others think.
