Hey, I have 2gb RAM installed into my rig but it's only showing 1.7Gb on canyourunit.com and 1.65Gb in my system properties...

I had an onboard video card but it is now disabled due to video card upgrade.

When i first got the system it was showing 1.3GB the DDR2 slots looked like this:
----------512MB---------
----------512MB---------

----------Empty---------
----------1GB ---------

Then i swaped them around and now its like for 1.7Gb:
----------1GB ---------
----------512MB---------

----------512MB---------
----------EMPTY---------

It really is confusing me....
Even in the BIOS it is showing 2GB RAM installed... I've looked everywhere but all i can find is that the onboard video card is taking RAM but that is now disabled....

Thanks

did you upgrade the ram?
did you buy it as a kit?
are you mix/matching ram with different speeds?

You've probably got integrated graphics that uses a portion of your system RAM.

As i stated in the first post i have disabled my onboard video card.

Slowest ram needs to be in the first slot, sometimes ram doesn't not like to be overclocked and can cause problems over time.

It is just possible that some of the memory is bad, and needs to be replaced.

I am sure that there are memory testing programs out there that you can try

I'll bet it's how your RAM is installed. 4 slots probably means you have an A channel and a B channel. Ideally you want even numbers of the same size and latency. To test it I would try putting the 512mb DIMMs into 1 and 3, remove the 1024 DIMM, and see if it registers 1024. If it does then use the 512 sticks somewhere else and get yourself another matching 1024 and pair those up.

Even though your on-board video is disabled, perhaps the ram is still allocated to it. Maybe you should get back into the BIOS and set the "shared video ram" to 0 bytes (if possible) or it's lowest value. (You may need to temporarily re-enable the on-board to do it.)
If you still lose say 64meg (because that was the lowest setting) or if that doesn't help, perhaps a BIOS update would be the next step.

And, as the above, your motherboard probably supports dual-channel RAM. Check whatever manual came with it (or on the manufacturers website) to see what way the RAM slots should be configured. Then put the 2 512meg sticks in the slots for one channel and get another 1Gig stick to pair up with the other stick and put them in the other slots. (for a total of 3Gigs)

The 2 512 meg sticks are diff speeds. Dimm # 3 is PC3200 (200mhz) & Dimm # 2 is PC4300 (233mhz).

You also have 3 different manufacturers of your memory. Id either ditch the Dimm 3 stick & live with only 1.5g of memory, or just go buy a new 2gb kit where everything is matched already.
