Firefox Keeps Dumping Cache -- Annoying

Hi all. Having a strange problem here. I have never had a problem with Firefox, pretty much since I began to use it in 2004. But today I am and it's very annoying.

The problem is...every time I close Firefox, the cache jets totally dumped, which means...it's not there for offline viewing...it's gone, completely.

My Cache settings are
-Don't clear cache on Close
-Maximum Size: 4096 MB (4 GB)
-4096 Days to store History (yeah I know...4k days...)
-Don't clear History on Close

Basically, When my cache needs to get dumped, or the history, I am the one that has to do it, firefox, should NOT. But... it's doing it.

I tried making a new profile, reinstalling Firefox, deleting the 4 core cache files, restarting the computer....etc..nothing, it keeps happening.

I'm using it on OS X, but that shouldn't matter, as the overall architechure internally of Firefox is the same on both Windows, Linux and OS X as I have experienced.

Firefox has always been prided on how great it works on slow connections (because of it's great ability to cache previous data, you are just loading local files) and its overall offline compatibility, well right now...that ain't happening on my end.

What the hell is going on here?

You can set it to dump the cache every time you close Firefox. Like this:



That's under Preferences -> Privacy -> Settings. Set it not to dump the cache when you close it and you should be fine.

Yeah, I have set so nothing is automatically managed.....no cache clearing on exit..nothing...it just keeps dumping my cache and im about to toss my iMac off the desk in a minute.

are you using "automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"?

*I had to disable that awhile ago. was crashing explorer.exe, had something to do with it constantly writing to clipboard if I remember right. Not sure if it was ever fixed, but meh...

I'd try unchecking the clear history when firefox closes box. it looks like you have it checked in the pic. seems like it is clearing even though you have the other boxes unchecked.

Nope, not even using that either.

I keep trying methods I find on google, nothing is working here.....

EDIT: Just tried your second suggestion. Still dumps.. know whats interesting though? I'm saying it dumps on close, I may be wrong, it's still there... its when I re open firefox... the cache is deleted instantly. I still regard this as dumping the cache upon close, because I don't get to use it next session.

in the box where it says "Firefox Will" what do you have it set to? you might want to fiddle around with that.

Please call me an Idiot right now. I figured out what the problem is.

Apparently, [sarcasm]because OS X is such a good, user friendly UNIX based operating system)[/sarcasm] quitting firefox by right clicking it on the OS X Dock and closing it, results in a fake crash. Thus, this makes Firefox panic and delete the cache next session......I GUESS because it thinks theres a bad/malicious script or virus in it...

Closing firefox by clicking the Firefox dropdown and "Quit Firefox" dosen't cause this.

naw, you just taught me something lol so it isn't all that bad. it's good to learn something new everyday ;-p

Closing something from the dock is kinda like a force quit. Just Apple + Q when you're in a hurry.

I hope to never have to use it but I also learned something...seems odd though...I would expect it to view it as a crash...granted firefox has seemed to be going downhill lately...

Oh my word - are Macs so minimalist that their applications don't even come with a close button?

Macs and Mac users scare the hell out of me.

It's good to see someone admitting to having a problem with the oh-so-perfect OSX.

Maybe OS XI will have a close button (and 2 mouse buttons).

It has a close button, you just have to know what you're doing. Or, you know, actually look.

Mice also have two buttons. It just looks like one.
