Buying/Selling..grrr
Essence Snow
Okay so I have had high bid on several items..and w/o any warning, notice, or reason, every post that I bid in has been closed by OP. Does anyone actually sell anything here?..this is the 7th time this has happened. If my bids had not exceeded reserves I'd understand, but.......idk. My guess is that I'm just unlucky.

you are correct, a lot of bidders don't meet the hidden reserve for items.
just about everything sells better in game, in my opinion.

Agree with the good doc. Sell them ingame. Someone may pay you right, someone may pay you more. At least that way, you wont have to wait 2-3 days looking at this drab website to know.

Often times, people end up selling the item in-game, and unlike the Auctions, there is no obligation for the poster to sell to forum responders. And sometimes, people use the buy/sell forum as a sort of price check.

The auction place is far better for actually making buys.
-How long an auction is available is set, no "Bump, bump, bump, till the cows come home"
-"Reserve the right to sell in game" does not exist or they can lose account for failure to honor auction.
-You can see if an auction has a reserve and simply refuse to bid on them if you want. (I hate reserves. STUPID concept.)
-Feedback so you can see if the person you are dealing with has a history.

I understand the concept of reserve just fine.
The sole purpose of a reserve is to artificially stimulate bidding by showing an artificially low starting bid. It is a STUPID concept which is redundant with setting the minimum bid to the price you would normally place in the reserve field.
My point was that at least with the auction site you can avoid "Hidden Reserves" as they are expressly listed on the auctions and you can refuse to even waste your time bidding. Additionally you can actually get good deals if you win an auction for 90k when the seller actually wanted 105-110k. On the forum, the seller can say "Sorry, hidden reserve not met" or "Sold in game, sorry." on the auction site, while it can still happen, those people get negative feedback resulting in the same: Lack of ability to sell items using the site.
The auction section adds "Culpability" that the forum section does not.

while i never said i liked it, but its a fact of life . I only use a R/B to make sure i make some money and dont lose money on that item. I agree though alot of people go too far w/ it.

This got moved to site feedback? Quite odd.

This is exactly why you have three different options available when trying to sell something:
Ingame: requires a lot of work (usually) - I personally hate shouting in Spamadan, wasting hours talking to people who only wants to buy if you will lower your asking price to below marked value.
Auction: inflexible format - I have used this a few times, but never really liked it. The fact that you have to honor every single bid limits you as you can't bid on two duplicate items without risking having to buy both.
Ventari's: very flexible format - you have already pointed out the downsides, but the fact that you can offer something up for sale and see where it goes from there without having a fixed price or sell date set from the get-go serves the need of many of our users.
