I could spend quite a bit of time talking about how a lot of people do nothing but stand around in Kamadan trying to buy low and sell high. I'm sure it's part of any economy, but it makes it hard to find the people who are looking for a good price and actually want to use the item, not make a profit on it.
Seller in a hurry, offering a good price - hoping to find someone who could use the item they have.

I know it's not possible to do what I am thinking, but it would be really amusing to see.

Imagine how these toons would look if all they ever really did was sit around in Kamadan and leech off of people out playing the game. It would be really cool if toons could gain weight...and not the attractive, I've just come from the gym weight gain either. You could easily identify all the people who are doing nothing (most of the time) except trying to make a profit off of regular players efforts. Maybe it could be based on time just standing around in towns (and yes, I realize this affects all of use with lives who go afk to get our event stuff - like you don't put on weight over the holidays anyway). You want your toon to look svelt, than get out there and complete some missions or quests.

The game is supposed to be about exploration and completing missions, quests, and titles even...not profit.

Just my thoughts for the day (wow, I should go to the gym now :-))

Amen to that, I supposed Spammadan would be full of toons in obsidy armor with I-Wash-Myself-With-A-Rag-On-A-Stick-Yeheugh-Heugh physiques

Hmm, I think your argument contradicts itself. You don't want people to play a video game by standing around Kamadan trading because you want the people standing around Kamadan trading to pay your asking price???

/notsigned because of the above mentioned inherent contradiction, and
  • I get enough judgmental looks and comments from non-gamers about how I waste time playing a computer game. I find it depressing when one gamer starts complaining about how another gamer is wasting their time playing a game in a different way.
  • The game is over four years old. If they were going to add any new in-game support to make trade easier, they would've. I see no point in debating it yet again. Folks who don't want to spend a lot of time around Kamadan already have several options available outside of the game to get in touch with other players buying or selling gear.

Cheers,

I think the OP was talking about being disappointed when he intentionally sells an item for a low price only to see the buyer (who is presumably sitting around flipping items in Kamadan all day) turn around and make money on the item rather than putting it to use. I don't see any inherent contradiction in that.

On the other hand, some people's primary in-game goal is to become rich, and so-called powertrading is perhaps the most efficient way to reach that goal.

I avoid Kamadan. I avoid it because I am absolutely furious when either buying or selling and legitimate market value offers are only met with "nty" or the more common "haha noob." No counter offer, because they are not there to trade at market value, they only consider buying if the price is so low or selling if the price is so high that either could be considered a scam.

Tedious farming for weapons/mods is far less taxing on my sanity than trying to deal with these people.

lmao, sounds funny and amusing

although it's slightly pointless and no doubt would be very difficult to implement. the sheer amount of restructring of character models would take FOREVER

I'm totally for this suggestion. I think it would be very entertaining to run around in Primal while being upwards of 600lbs from afking the GH all day.

So then you'd have to play the game more often to keep your character from getting fat, all the while you sit at home playing a game all day getting fat. I think I'd rather have my character get fat.

/signed for lolz. I mean if I'm not playing I don't expect my char to get fat, but if I'm afking and stuff that would make sense and in fact the obesity should be accelerated for sweets/drinking if possible... but either way, doing this could also be a good warning to the people in kamadan. "Hey fatsos, how bout be less like your character trading in kama and be active like your character should be." See, now GW is promoting a healthy lifestyle, through some irony ^^

Or we can learn from the best MMO that the world has ever seen and implement a auction house. this will drastically kill power trading over night.

Great idea, better yet put instead of making them fat put them in fancy suits and give them high-powered titles. Then when they are done buying low and than try to sell high, but much to their surprise the market price is lower than they bought the items for the Govt... er ANET can bail them out

I'll give someone a stack of ectos if I can see a female Warrior in Gladiator arena with a body that looks like Rosanne Barr. And I mean see it in game, not a photoshop pic for those of you breaking out the google searches for a picture to use.

Would be hilarious, but impossible to do. The game simply cannot handle such model changes even if they could program it to adjust based on a set of time markers. Same reason why we can't have several of the armors on NPCs, they just can't work with different sized character models.

/signed for funny...

now to address the root of the issue which is you QQing over powertraders...

I've done it once or twice...

Don't see why people get all pissy....

They are offering money for an item yeah sure a lower price...but you are selling it faster...

Saving you time that you can go out and make more money...

If you want to sit and wait to sell...that's fine...or you can sell to a powertrader and sell for fast...

Its like an auction house that charges a percentage fee leaving you to play the way you want while letting them gain a bit of cash in exchange for selling it for you

Okay kinda sounds amusing, But it will all turn around in just making the player behind the screen get fat.

But as for being more on topic of the reasoning about the buying low sell high, I for one don't do it. When i buy something it's for myself to use or have, When i sell i sell for the price i agree apon it being low, lower then normal price, or even high. Depends on the demand of the item.

But as for someone buying from any of us low and then turning around selling high, Thats there way to make a profit in the game, It's like the Property Buyers in RL. They try to buy as low as possible and then turn around and sell for the most they can. If you don't want to sell it for the low price don't accept the trade, Nobody is making any of us hit that accept button. So really isen't anything to complain about but to ourselves for accepting the lower price trades.

Yes it is crazy how populated Kamadan has gotten, But before Kamadan it was LA. So this isen't anything new.

So while were playing the game making money by doing Missons, Quests, Farming, Whatever it is each of us do. The Power sellers are just playing it the way that want to buy basically being a Pawn Shop. Buy from person low so the person has money then turns around and sells it for top Dollar.
