I have a level 16 Assassin. So far I've not been able to defeat Quimang with her playing only with henchies so I decided to try to get her to level 17, but I can't find any other quests anywhere.
Is Quimang's a "choke point" quest? Until I defeat him I get no other quests? Or have I just not looked under the right rock for a questgiver? I've looked in all the towns I have access to.
Any info or suggestions greatly appreciated!

It is a difficult quest. You can make it a little easier by leaving from Ran Misu Gardens with higher level henchmen. Or, you can try to get a human group. The other possibility is just waiting until you are higher level and come back to do it. There is no disadvantage to leaving the island and continuing the quest line.

You may be missing one of the two missions on the island - Minister Cho's estate or Zen Daijun. Check your map travel and see if there is a sword through both mission towns. If there is not then you need to do that mission. (this happens a lot with new players because they don't know that, unlike NF and EoTN, missions in Factions and Prophecies are started with button on the party panel instead of by talking to a person.)
If you have done the missions then you probably have talked to First Mate Xiang in Seitung Harbor and gotten the quest, "A Master's Burden" from him but did not realize you have to talk to him a second time to get a boat ride to Kaineng Docks. This trips a lot of people up because a green arrow does not appear over his head to let them know they have to speak to him that second time.

Thanks Tom Swift! You know, it's really odd. I ran this mission once before and would have sworn I had finished it. The tip about the sword through the town on the map made me realize I had not completed an important mission. I now have the instruction to talk to Xiang and get passage to the mainland.
Thanks again!

- Kill Feng the Skull Symbol; he is right behind the corner when approaching the last group of reinforcements, and the additional 2% morale is really useful. If you approach from Kinya Province, you should consider killing Tahkayun Tsi, Auri the Skull Wand and Sulmeng the Skull Staff as well (they are located on your path to Panjiang from Ran Musu Gardens in that order).
- Be patient when getting to the bridge. There's two additional groups of crimson skull. One of them is walking in your direction. Wait in front of the bridge until that group has come near enough and eliminate them. Then step on the bridge; the hidden group of high-level crimson skull will appear, and you can fight them together with the last group of crimson skull that is waiting behind the bridge.
- Be very attentive in Port Kaimu as well. There's two hidden groups of crimson skull that tend to appear when you really can't use any further distractions.
- The guards tend to get stuck on the flanks of the hill when you kill all enemies around Port Kaimu. When that happens, walk back to the stuck guards and navigate them around the hill with as much distance as possible.

You should as above has said leave with the higher hench..also did you pick up all the 3 ? or more goups to assist you ..the Canthan guards.
that way since your using hench you also have more support to complete it.
this gives you around 12 or more allies to help out
