Hello Everyone !
I see some alarm has been raised about the event. I was the person that approached Arenanet about having an ingame event to help out with the disaster that occurred in Haiti. I think it is in poor taste that some of you are looking at this with disapproval. I wanted to have a way that the Guild Wars Community could show their support.
If you cross reference the Red Cross page that we have set up, you will see that it is legit and not a scam. I have spoken to Regina about the event and there will be an official announcement done by Regina on Friday ( as per her e-mail to me at 7:02pm CST today.)
I hope that all of you can come out and support us whether you donate money towards the cause or not. I believe this is a good chance for our community to show support to a global cause. Please be aware that there will be other options for people to donate to the cause without having money. We have posted several options on Gamers Giving Back on Facebook if you wish to check this out.
You may also check out our official RED CROSS donation page as follows:
http://my.e2rm.com/personalPage.aspx?registrationID=806067&langPref=e n-CA
You will also see a donation done by myself on there as well. Alas, I do feel for the people that have been heisted by scams before. If you feel that way.....at least come out and enjoy the in-game party, where we will be giving out Guild Wars 2 prizes ( donated by Arenanet) and ingame items as well. There is also going to be a music stream available that people will be able to tune in for chances to win some of these prizes just for coming out and showing their support. Like I said..there will be more news about this event officially posted by Arenanet on Friday.
If you have any further questions about this event, please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] or contact the Guild Wars Community Manager Regina.
Thank you for your support ahead of time and I look forward to seeing all of you on Sunday!

I forgot to add, that the SOLE donation page is the Red Cross page that I set up with the goal of $1337.00 dollars. Yes, this was intended to inspire gamers. This is not a large goal, but I am sure we can meet or beat it!
The Canadian Red Cross allows you to setup personal pages on their website in order to keep track of all of the donations. The money goes directly to Red Cross, so you will have no fear that it will be mis-managed.
We will also keep track of the people who donate on this page as well, as some of the prizes that will be distributed for the event, will be given to the people who donate to the cause. Note I said, some, not all.
As I previously stated, if you don't feel comfortable donating, don't, there is no pressure, all we ask is for people to be aware we are having the event in-game and if you could show up in Lion's Arch on the 7th and have some fun.....that is all we could ask for

That is Correct Rhonda. We are not trying to cause a big Old fight here we are just trying to do something for Haiti, by getting the Guild wars community involved I'm sorry you guys see this as a scam or a Vial thing. But please Check out our donation page before you discount us. It takes you directly to the Red Cross website.. But also Like Rhonda said. If your not comfortable donating we are not forcing the issue. Just a fun idea to help, and get the community involved. And I too hope to see you there on the 7th

Hello everyone!
I just want to apologize for all of the confusion. In light of the event planning and due to my job during the day, there was some poor communication between the planning members of this event. The section " Donation Page" will be renamed shortly so that people are not confused as to what page they are heading to. As well, the logo for the event will be reworked to eliminate further confusion. We were all very excited about planning this event for the game and unfortunately this thread was started too soon and at that point was already out of my hands.
Again, I want to apologize for any confusion to the community that this thread has caused and hopefully things will be a little less confusing once the thread is re-worked by Kelli upon her arrival home.

Thanks for the clarification on your posts, MalibuBarbie and brandylynn8403.
Please read the original post. They are not directly taking the donations. They set up a page with the Canadian Red Cross, which allows anyone to create a fundraising page. All funds will go to the Canadian Red Cross. You may have seen similar fundraising pages through other organizations like the United Nations Children's Fund. For example the Star Trek ONTD LiveJournal community set up a page on UNICEF to raise funds for Haiti. Gaming World Events has done similar with setting up the donation page on the Canadian Red Cross website. They've also given you a few links to other places to donate for the Haiti efforts.
Secondly, Gaming World Events did indeed contact us last week to see in how far we could support their efforts in terms of publicity. My higher-ups said it was cool with them to do a news post on our website, since they would be doing an in-game event for this. And I also offered to show my support in-game for a little while during their event, because I think it is a good cause. They just got a little over excited about spreading the word before the news post was up, which is where there was a bit of confusion here.
Anyway, I hope that's all cleared up, and thanks for your attention.

If this money was not going through the Red Cross, I'd have donated. The Red Cross screwed over my Grandmother when her house burned to the ground in the early California fires. They "lost" four pages of her item list.
Not to mention not all of the money you donate will actually go to help someone.
I have placed my donations (As well as the rest of my family and a few of my friends) through other companies.
I find it amazing to see a bunch of gamers banding together to help people truly in need. Very cool if you ask me.
Kudos to all of you.

This thread is not for discussing whether a country should or should not be giving help to Haiti. Make a new thread in Off-Topic for that.
Likewise, if you want to discuss the "back" in the title of the event, PM the event organisers. If all you're trying to do is troll, stop polluting this forum with it.
Thank you.

Hmm. My post was deleted, perhaps a little overzealously, considering the fact that all it said was that I think this is a great idea...
Anyway, I did donate yesterday. Only $10, not a whole lot, but anything is better than nothing and that's about all I can spare at the moment. And I'll try and hit the event tomorrow

Thanks MALIBU Barbie, DJ Kelli, DJ Popcorn, and everyone at the Gaming World Events crew for organizing this. Well done, everyone. I'm sorry that I could stay for only two hours. I had an awesome time anyway. It was incredible to see such generosity of spirit, time, and money from the GW community.

Awwww, the district is full. I can't come join in.
