what should i invest in ?
Lusciious
Seeing how i might be leaving GW due to the fact that i can't play that much anymore, what should i invest all my money in so that if i were to return, i wouldn't lose so much / gain .
talon994
A limited mini
Luminarus
Lockpicks if u want constant value (although just leaving ur cash there does the same thing), or rare mini's if u want it to increase. Weapons will only drop in value, and ectos etc vary in price 2 much
Fate Crusher
I've invested into ectos. Yes they vary too much in price, but with a suspected PvE nerf it could be even harder to obtain Ectos. Plus I'm planning to purchase more FoW. If these hoarders choose to flood the market soon, hopefully I'll spot it and jump on the wagon too ^^
The point I'm trying to make is try to invest into something you may be aiming to obtain/achieve later on. Turn it to cash if you need to buy sweet/party points, ectos if you're buying rare weapons/FoW armour.

prey monkie
limited unded minipets
Lusciious
i think i'll get an unded grawl .

I would spend my gold, buy as many titles as you can, fill your hall and wait for GW2
This is the true investment that will have some benefits in the future.
I am working on filling my hall. I have only 2 parts of it to display the max mount of stuff and then I will get 5 Maxed titles and get my Rainbow Phoenix and then fill my menagerie and I will be ready for GW2.

Tommy's
My guess would be sell all your ecto for gold now. Wait untill guru is filled with omg 1337sauce uw sc's and ecto price will go down again, and buy the ecto's again, should make a nice profit :3
But if you really are going on pauze, I would definatly buy an unded limited rare mini or nerfed oldschool weapon. Things that don't drop anymore tend to raise in price as people are only getting richer.

There's no poit in hoarding all the money for nothing, if you want to invest it, invest in your HoM and GW2 instead of some ultra-rare mini just in case you might want to come back in the future and still be filthy rich and keep on doing nothing with your money then.
athariel
You could invest it into my storage
vamp08
Ectos are gonna fall sharply once the PvE change is out.

It is not trick my friend. Go to the GW Face Book page cause there is some explinations there on the fact that some things will have "bennifits" (that is a actual word that is used) to help in GW2.
They hint that it will be part of the "family history" of the toons that you will make in GW2.
I am going to assume that some of the weapons will be transferable. So the Tormented Weapons will add much value to GW2 cause they are very expensive now in GW1
If this also holds true, then a req13 Tormented Sword might have the same benefit as a req9 sword cause it transfers sword to sword and not req to req.
Wouldn't that be interesting.
I decided to go destroyer weapons in my hall cause they are cheaper and now I am just going to buy the first year whites for my mini's in my hall and that should do it for my monuments.
Then I need just 4 more titles maxed as I have Prot of Tyria now. I will get the other 4 by doing finishing my skills hunter for Prophecies and completing Factions and NF.
That should be 5 titles and the rainbow birdie.
Then I will focus totally on my Lucky title cause its Very hard to get. That should provide an awesome bonus for GW2 cause its the longest and most expensive title to get. 10,000 chests is a lot of chests. I have opened almost 4,000 chest so I still have a bit more than 6,000 chests to go.. or 2 month of doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over...

And could you provide a link to the part where the 'benefits' are explained? (that's the actual word ) I only ever remember talk about the stuff from the HoM wouldn't give you an advantage over new players.
ac1inferno
I see everyone suggesting against ectos because their prices fluctuate so much, but what about black dyes? Do their prices change that much?
talon994
ac1inferno, Black dyes have actually increased a bit. Few weeks ago they were around 8k each. Few days ago @ 11k each, so yeah they fluctuate quite a bit

Tormented weapons are crafted, so all are the same requirement.

As for the advantage part that you mentioned. If you complete all the missions in all of the 3 "chapters" then that is 4 titles and you only need more more.. like skills hunter. Fill your hall with items and POOF.. you are no longer disadvantaged.
It only takes 1 week to do each chapter in Normal Mode. Then a week to do just one skills hunter title. So.. in 5 weeks your up to me and I have been playing for 3 years cause I played mostly in presearing making myself super rich.
I own my OWN Guild with Full Hall, only me in it on 3 of my 5 accounts. I have tormented Shield, Voltalic Spear req9, Obsidian Armor, Everlasting Asuran Tonic, Chaos Gloves, Chaos Axe old school req9 and stacks of ectos and mini destroyer and junk. So gold.. is a mute point for me. so...
All the gold and ectos that I have in GW1 will be useless in GW2 -and the purpose of this thread is what to invest in - so I have started on my hall in Nov.
Since then I have 6 Elite Armor sets, I got Kur/lux luck/unluck prot or tyr tropyies in my hall and my hero's/pets and bought the goods for the destroyer weapons and all I need is like 16 more pets - white of course - and then.. Max the 4 more titles and I have a full hall.
GW2 will not come out till 2011 from what we are hearing.. so it should only take you a month to get full benefits from your hall for GW2.
Lord Dagon
eh i personally would invest in feathers so some kind of simple material like that.... ppl will more then likely always need consets.. so get itesm to make consets
Gift3d
you should DEFINITELY turn money into something else. it's totally logical to risk the value rising/dropping for absolutely no reason at all. but then again i believe you should play it safe and buy something with a constant and steady value so that it will make your pointless endeavors that much more pointless.
godspeed.
godspeed.
Trader of Secrets
Throw it toward HoM stuff if you already havent, if so a limited mini.

True, my HoM is also filled to the brim with achievements, and that's indeed a good course to invest your money in.
Quaker
I'd say just keep the gold - if you are only interested in retaining your value, the simplest way to go would be to not "invest" in anything. Anything other than gold either: a) doesn't change in value, just like gold, or b) has an element of risk.
And always remember - it's play money.
P.s. - there is no "advantage" to be gained from filling your HoM, just some bling in GW2. Bling which will basically be as common as Chaos Gloves are now.

Eragon Zarroc
depends, how much money do you have to invest?
Lusciious
I have roughly 229 ectos +- to invest.
Lord Chris Bravo
In my opinion i'd invest in ecto's as some-one said there could be a nerf .. meaning that the price of ectos would skyrocket .. but that's just me
Lusciious
there will be a nerf . chances are ecto prices will fall drastically before rising . since there would still be a demand for ectos both for FoW and as a second currency .
snodaard
invest in stuff that doesn't change in price is pointless isn't it?
just invest in limited minipets I'd say, since they won't drop in price I think.

Arduin
Why would it fall drastically before rising? With the incoming nerf ecto will only become more 'rare'.
Lusciious
why would prices of ecto at trader hit 9k now ? because there is a large demand for it and the current supply (from UW or whereever) is not keeping up with it so it is becoming more expensive . but when did regina stated that they're looking in SF ? like a month ago ? so from a month ago until now, everyone has been stocking up on ectos . if SF nerf hits and everyone releases their ectos thinking that ecto prices would hit 15k, they're wrong because now that there is an extremely high supply and average demand (people wanted it last time because they were stocking up on it. now what is ectos used for ? a currency and FoW) so prices would fall rapidly . and if no new farm builds appear to farm for ectos, ecto prices would eventually rise again because people would have used up some of the ectos for their own things e.g. FoW . and this means that the supply would have gone done and prices would rise again .
this is just what i think .

If in reality it won't, people will just hold on to their ecto, hoping for the price to be inflated again.
If people don't sell off their ecto en masse, the price won't drop.
Lusciious

byteme!
Invest in yourself. Education or work. GW is just a game it's not important. Besides with 229 ectos you won't be able to invest in much to garner a sufficient return. The good investments are out of your price range. Keep your ectos as is.

Dont forget the fact that when GW2 comes out there's not going to be many players in GW1 to trade etc.. Having that in mind the only players that are left will be getting titles for there HoM iF there is any benefit of filling your hall besides showing off your achievements. So anthing that rasies there titles are whats going to be worth keeping. There's gonna far less people farming sweets, alcohol, ectos for armor etc. Less there are the higher it's gonna cost to get and use them after GW2 is released even if you buy them straight from the vendor.
In reality things like a certain mini that is actually hard to get is the only thing that has value in the game. Everything else can be obtainable. Even then those items wont transfer to GW2 so its pointless.
As a direct answer to OPs question, you dont have to invest in anything. If you come back when GW2 is out and need somthing from GW1 for HoM then is the time you spend all your gold getting what you need, after that you can then ditch the game.
IMO GW is a just a video game. From a companies view to maintan new users, old players are gonna have to suck it up and QQ when they find out there not getting much from wasting there time with the HoM when GW2 is released. Why is anet gonna make new players to GW franchies fell less when they never played GW when all they see all these old school players with cool looking items etc.. there not and I guarntee you old players wont get much. Filled HoM is just gonna be a status symbol to other players saying look at what I did in GW1. Just like when they added the HoM in the first place it was only added after 3 cmpaigns they had to think of something to get players to buy a 4th.
Dont stress on investing, go do what you need to do and come back when you have time.
