Petition: Give the Doppelganger a fighting chance!
cataphract
I for one feel really saddened by the conditions Doppelganger is forced to live in. No one ever visits for weeks, nay, months on end and when they do - they storm in, echo EVAS and map out. A sadder fate could hardly be found in all of Guild Wars. What was once a feared opponent has been reduced to a mere punching bag. Sad existence indeed.
Have any of you ever stopped to talk to the poor guy? Has anyone ever taken a second to ask him how he was doing? I think not.
Therefore I suggest giving our beloved Doppelganger a fighting chance. It is all he whishes and hopes for. Let him use the PvE-only skills. Let him have a doppel-pet Lizard. Let us even the playing field so as to make our Doppelganger a happy cloud of pixels once more. It's only fair.

Hmmmm.... Neh. Cool idea though.

Only if this doesn't require a lot of programming, that means; it doesn't need extra AI for the use of pve skills.

And then we go back to using other exploitative strategies on it again.
I'd be willing to support this idea for fairness, but it really won't make the Doppelganger any tougher. It will just put a few more limits on the kinds of ways you can defeat it.

Or there's another thought; for every PvE skill you bring, a special skill is added to the Doppelganger's bar.
So if you go in with an honest, open eight bar, he'll meet you in a square up fight.
But if you use dirty tricksies and rely on the norn or the asura ways to help you (or even worse, try to bring an Ebon V sin friend), you have to go toe-to-toe with a few tricks of his own.

why not restrict the available skill set to the skill you would have if you were to do Prophecies from pre-searing to the Doppelganger - and only the skills from your primary?
So basically Prophecies redux... And pretty easy to program I am sure.

Who cares? He's easy even without PvE skills.

PvE skills are only the tip of the iceberg. Pets were mentioned, but they are still only part of the problems. Consider Ebon Dust Aura, and the Dopple not having an Earth damage weapon. Consider the Conjures as well, or any skill based on a specific type of damage other than what the Dopple has. Or even the AI having it set long casting time skills like Nature Rituals that offer it no benefit and keep it from fighting/kiting.
Although I agree the Dopple is a very easy opponent, I don't think a fix is easy. And making him harder would screw the new players over that do not have access to anything other than Prophecies characters/skills.

It's PvE: It's not supposed to be a fair fight. The player is meant to win. Here's a thought: Put the PvP environment effect in play for the mission for the lulz. No PvE skills or cons, and you have to use the PvP skills. Even after that, it would still be easy.
I don't understand why the Doppelganger could never use all the PvE skills from the beginning, but allowing it to use them won't change the outcome of the battle.

Perhaps fix these things for HM and actually make it hard. I'd say it's too much work for 30 seconds though, considering all the things they'd have to fix.

He's designed around new players who just hit/are just about to hit Level 20, just changed secondaries, with a limited skill selection, non-max armor, etc. I think he's fine.
Obviously he's too easy for us who are experienced and have all skills unlocked. Maybe tweak him for Hard Mode only to not affect new players.

-Edit-
I didn't even read the 1st post, and that was stupid of me.
I agree with you, it's just unfair right now and should be changed as it will still be easy to Echo EVAS and kill him faster than he can.

Same for Rotscale, Tombs or Iron Forgeman; they become easier to defeat once you start to learn how to play the game and you get some pve skills. Giving pve skills to Doppelganger wont change anything.
reaper with no name
Actually, I only recently met Rotscale for the first time, and let me tell you, if you don't know you're about to face a lvl 30 guy with a strategic advantage with an unoptimized team that isn't even full, yeah, he can still give you quite a bit of trouble.
But yes, making the Doppelganger (an opponent whom you have to defeat as part of the main storyline) harder isn't exactly a good idea. As others have stated, he's supposed to pose a challenge for players who aren't aware of how to exploit the battle in the ways that the average GWG user is.

How is this going to stop the doppel from attacking through empathy or casting through backfire? The only thing this does is nullify pve and pet builds, which does almost nothing to add to the difficulty of the boss at all.

Insidious Parasite + Enfeeble curbstomps this guy. If it's that easy to win, I see no reason why this should be done.
