Graphical errors

Hello,

I've been getting some graphical errors in GW lately and while they're rare, it is still annoying having to restart the PC. First of all, I only get these errors while playing GW. I reinstalled the drivers more than once (I tried both an older driver and the latest one too), but it didn't solve it.

About the errors now. This is the most frequent:

The only solution to this is a restart, after which everything is fine again. It's not usually that bad, just the little dots flickering all over the screen. I must add that this also affects pretty much everything once it appears.

The second one only happened once and simply minimizing GW solved it. Here's a screenshot:

And while I'm at this, I'd like to ask about something else. Is the difference in texture normal, like in this pic:

It's been bugging me for a while and I want to know if there's anything that can be done about it. I've only noticed this at EotN armors.

That's it for now, thanks in advance.

Sounds like a dying video card.

You could also try to re-download the DAT file in case of a bad image.

Go to the GW folder and delete the DAT file. Then add -image to the command line and let it sit overnight.

I would suspect a corrupted gw.dat file

click this to learn how to do an "image"

a borked video card is possible, but try the above suggestion first.

Thanks both, I'm going to do the -image thing and hope for the best. Come to think of it, I have that .dat file since I first installed the game over 4 years ago. I only moved it between hard-disks.

I'll update this once I get some results.

Is it possible your card is overheating due to lots of dust?

Well, I re-downloaded the .dat file (changed from 3.53 GB to 3.63) and so far so good. I tried replicating the errors, but it didn't work. I'll have to play a bit more to be able to tell if the problem is solved or not.

As to the problem I have with specific armors ( only monument armor actually, for monk and mesmer), I've noticed that the texture changes a bit depending on light. Still, it's only in the log in screen that I've seen it look as smooth as in the dye-preview window. So it only has to do with the poor job Arena-net did with EotN armors? :P

Sadly, I had both types of errors occur recently. Since I both reinstalled GW and checked for excessive dust on the card, I'll assume the video card is dying :/
