Hacked too and no clue how

Thought I'd go grab a crown or two for my other account, as the wintersday stuff is going on again...

Well not gonna happen. Trying to log in, got invalid password.

Turns out both the account and the NC Soft master account has been compromized. My characters are all gone, they're no longer in guild and when I try to add them to friends, they no longer exist.

Still trying to work it out with support but since I no longer have my account keys (moved twice recently, and if I still have them, they're nowhere near here) I don't expect to get anything back.

The guy had 25 maxed titles, and a load of pets, just waiting for Guildwars 2 to hand over all the HOM stuff.

Anyway, I don't have a clue how this happened. The hotmail address the GW account was linked to was compromized by spammers a while ago, I petitioned that to have my GW mail changed but they refused to do this. I changed my NC Soft account mail, and changed passwords about two months ago.

All seemed well, and all of the sudden, this. My two other accounts are still there, fortunately. Ran a virusscan and malware scan, nothing on my PC. I just don't get it how they could've compromized the accounts.

You didn't have effective protection from viruses etc, or you let some account details slip without knowing it.

I did have security, and like I said I did a full scan afterwards, and there were no virusses and malware.

Didn't share that account with a friend.

And I don't use the same username/pass for forums, only GW had that pass.

I have 3 accounts, with two linked to one PlayNC account and the third, now hacked one, linked to another (forgot my original PlayNC account data at the time I bought it, and was still getting it back when I registered this one).

I did log into that second PlayNC account to request an email change and change my passwords two months ago, and I haven't logged into my first PlayNC account recently.

Since my second PlayNC account was the one that got compromized (or else the passwords couldn't have been reset), despite the changed email/password, something is wrong.

Sorry to hear you got hacked and lost everything, but dont hold too much hope on anet or ncsoft doing anything. They will go down the line of you not being secure enough by either passwords or by keylogger/malware. Without your access codes they will not even think about entertaining your request. Now they introduce us to their GSU (Game Surveilance Unit) what a joke! they may well ban loads of accounts, eveything in those banned accounts just gets deleted. how about giving those accounts to the players that have lost eveything after years of hard work getting to where they are. At least it would be something to the players instead of losing everything.

I may have some good news for you.

Did you have the gwamm character or the characters with the full HoM set into account mode?

Then if anet is able to recover your account, you may still have your characters on but, if not, you still will have all your achievements unlocked.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this before with all the account hacking going on but I also play Aion, which is an NCSoft game as well. It seems in Aion account hacking is an epidemic and many of the reports are pointing towards the NCSoft website. I can't confirm anything since it hasn't happened to me but I do find it strange that many people in Guild Wars and Aion are reporting the same mysterious account hackings. It should be noted that people with inactive accounts (stopped playing and came back to the game) have also had their accounts hacked while inactive!

Unfortunately not, I haven't played that account much (just playing during events for the hat), and I haven't done anything to set it off the default. Will do it on my other GWAMM now, feeling really paranoid that it might be hacked too at some point.

I don't really expect to get much back off the account that was compromised, I just felt the need to post it to get the frustration out of my system and maybe figure out how the heck they did this. Both NC Soft accounts were pretty secure, the only difference was that I logged into the stolen account a few months ago and not in the other one... So either I must have had a keylogger back then which magically deleted itself afterwards, or the NC Soft page has some security flaws.

Sorry to hear about this unfortunate incident Shakkara. Keep pushing support, and perhaps post on Gaile's wiki page. Aside from that, there is nothing more to be discussed here.

I've copied your original post over to the 'Hacked Accounts' compliation thread, here, for record.
