Just a few quick questions.
1) When I used to have AVG 8 (free) and Texmod, I put it on the exception list and all was fine.
This isn't the case with AVG 9 (free). Every time its accessed or a containing file is accessed. AVG freaks out. No matter how many times I tell it to put it on the exceptions, it always comes back.
2) I had one of those Antivirus 2009 pop-up attacks (not that one but one similar) I use firefox (updated) and I tried to close the tab or w/e it was that tried to tell me I had viruses, eventually I won. I did a scan of most of the computer (the drive I was using) and nothing popped up. I hope I'm clean. Would AVG 9 (free) pick it up if it was there?

Just dump firefox's cache (Tools > Clear Recent History > Select Everything and hit Clear Now) if you don't have any cached data you want to keep, sometimes malicious things can be stored in your browser cache when those happen (bad scripts, viruses..etc).
When you get attacked again, just open the task manager, and force close firefox.exe (the process, not the open windows).
You should be ok, Probably won't help you or matter much - But I've been attacked with those many times over the years without virus protection and I've never had any major problems (no stolen accounts, no phished data, no keyloggers) nothing of that sort. If I've ever gotten anything virus related, it was aimed at destroying anything in the /Windows and /system32 folders instead, destroying the OS. Ah the joys of one time using Windows 24/7.. nowadays..well......
EDIT: AVG will always hate TexMod.exe. Even when I had AVG 8 (yes I did experiment with antivirus software at one time, but it truely is a waste of time), I'd open texmod and then AVG would actually go berserk and then just freeze the system..then I tossed it. Once, it sent my system into a BSOD that actually just..shut off the hard drive while the computer was running, while I was listening to music...no reason at all..bam, the HDD header arm clank...when the hard drive turns off then a BSOD appeared. The cause was AVG.

You can try downloading Microsoft security essentials, if you are running a english version of Windows. It really works much better than AVG and it is also free.
Sir Tieger
Seems you will always get this problem between AVG and Texmod.
I had some similar issues with trying to put it on exceptions.
Quickest workaround is just to disable the resident shield in AVG, launch Texmod, then you can reactivate Resident Shield. Its a pain to keep doing this, but only takes like 10 seconds.
Hope this helps ya

avg only causes me grief with texmod if I have the mod running when my daily scans are going (or gw crashed w/texmod and the silly tmp file is still there)....otherwise I have been using avg for years (and still have another one paid for) with no issues---though it might be because I have the paid version?

Nope, once I added the exception to AVG Free its stopped complaining about Texmod. I did have to add it manually though (rather than using the "Add to Exceptions" button on the dialog that comes up when it throws a hissy.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! As I said. I'll try most of these tomorrow.
And about clearing firefox's cache. I do a cclean every week or more so I should be good there.
