Now that I have a cougar as a pet, just how do I command him to stay, attack, go away, be passive or just get lost? I am new to this game.thanks

in the party box you can click on a small icon on ur pet's name, the only options are like heroes; passive, aggressive, defend. Defend is best. Cant really command him to get lost u, u have to give the pet up for adoption or put it back in cage.

Next to the pet's name on the party window is a small button with a "+" sign on it. Click that button to open up the control window for the pet. That window lets you put the pet on "heel" so it will not attack, or you can lock the pet on the target you select while you attack a different target. Otherwise, the pet will be on "guard" and will attack whichever foe you attack.
Unfortunately, you can't tell him to "go away" or pin him some place, like you can with heroes and henchies. So you need to be careful and remember to put him on "heel" if you're going to pull a group of foes.
If you don't want to bring the pet with you on a certain outing, just leave the skills Charm Animal and Comfort Animal off your skill bar. The pet will not come with you again until you equip one of those two skills.

^You no longer need Charm Animal for you pet to come with you, just Comfort Animal.

Where did I say that you need Charm Animal? Either skill will work to add the pet to your party, though Comfort Animal is the skill of choice unless you're going to give your pet to a tamer and charm a new one.
