If your into PvE - Not sure.
If your into PvP - I'm not flaming and not hating, but not really man. EotN is worth buying for the skills of course, but the PvE content is severly lacking for supposedly being a PvE campaign. Wtb Shadow Form Sin to speed book, WTB R10 Triple Ranks, WTB run here and there. It has less challenge then actual campaigns imo. Except Slavers Exile, which I've never been in but heard it was hard. The PvP community is mostly arseholes cause we're all pissed off about how we are being neglected, and the PvE community is all 'I hate A-net because I downloaded a build off Wiki and still lost'. But visit some of the guild recruitment threads and see if you can get in, if it worksout, go pickup EotN man. Why you asking people when this forum is dominated by QQ?

Whether it is worth it or not depends on what you want out of the game. PUGs are not worth it, and haven't been since before Factions was released. If, however, you can find a good guild that does the kinds of things you want to do, then it is well worth it. Eye of the North offers no new classes, but it does offer new skills, 10 for each class, and many PvE only skills. You also get heroes (1 of each class) and a few new armors. For PvE, I'd definitely say Eye of the North was worth the purchase, but for PvP, it only offers a few skills.
Problem is, the skills it offers are used a LOT. Cure Hex, Patient Spirit, Aura of Stability, and Spotless Soul/Mind are all commonly seen Monk spells. Glowing Ice, Winter's Embrace, and Glyph of Immolation get used by Elementalists. That is just 2 classes off the top of my head, and I'm sure I missed some from those 2 classes. But heroes can no longer be used in PvP, so the heroes won't give you anything, and there are no new PvP arenas fro Eye of the North. So outside of the skills, you get nothing for PvP.

Only reason to buy EOTN at this point is if you have a character with a lot of accomplishments and you want to transfer those accomplishments to a descendant in GW2. It is impossible to transfer your accomplishments and get rewards for GW2(they havent said what you get yet) without Eye of the North. This would also be useful for PvP character accomplishments as PvP titles are account based, and you get statues at your Hall of Monuments in EOTN. I have had several conversations with people who thought that you transfer maxed titles to GW2, but you don't need to max some of the titles to get the statues. You can get quite a few statues for your hall of monuments to transfer to GW2 without having a title maxed.
X Ghoul
You will have fun for ill say 2-6months but then once again dead game is dead game.

Eye of the North is not a campaign, and was never marketed as one. It is an expansion, and delivers quite a bit for an expansion.

Pick a single character and play it through all campaigns + EoTN. Then you are basically caught up for GW2, and IMO..you basically beat the GW1 triligoy.
GW being a storyline RPG game..not an MMO isn't worth "coming back to" unless you are going to PvP or play the PvE for the storyline or questline, I don't see the point in farming to make money and buy better armor when it doesn't really mean anything but "i got money" "i got gud armur lolz" ... maybe trading and virtual money is some people's thing in a virtual world, but meh.

If you can find EotN for 10 bucks and are into PvE, absolutely worth it. Game is just as fun as it used to be. Community of players is still there if you look for it.
Orry
Cost as much? Here it cost $10 less at release than the others at their release.

PvE - yes.
PvP - no way.
PvP - no way.
Chocobo1
Good luck trying to PvP without Eotn.
Buy it, it's cheap and has a lot of very powerful skills.

I wouldn't recommend either.
PvE-Sizeable community, but the ppl that are there, and are likely to stay have all their chars @ lvl 20, and will be unlikely to group for the low level content even if they do create a new one.
Aside from some epically bad noobs, the early game is so deserted you won't find much motivation to keep @ it until grouping improves.
PvP-No, structured/team based pvp is full of elitist dick-holes who won't give you a chance until you've ground random arena to death for a month or two. Random arena is kind of fun, but it's not really feasible to build a community out of it.

My answer is also yes
People make or break the game not the shiny objects. Find a good guild and it adds an entire new dimension to the game. If you're one who is going to explore and actually play it you'll have a blast with it.

Keep reading that the pve community is there... where, exactly? It's a hell of a lot smaller than it used to be, and nowhere near as good. Your guild and allies are basically the extent of the community now.
Unless it's VSF,DTSC or SC's, PUGS are rare, it's all guild/friend teams and who can blame them, since pugs are /fail.
If you played GW during it's heyday (upto about 6 months after NF release, I think) then don't bother coming back and planning on staying, you'll only end up hating it for being a shadow of itself. Come back, finish EoTN, but, for the love of Mary, don't get trapped by titles.

for pve it is but you will hear alot of groaning and Q.Qing after,to put it bluntley, the SF users get hit in the nuts.
for pvp i wouldnt know directly but im hearing its nothing but rampant elitism and if ur not like r8 in all pvp titles w/ obby armor and a VS on ur pvp only char( i know u cant get obby on pvp ;p) you wont get a group. So overall i would say yes for the pve side heck no unless ur eliteistic for pvp.
