Leeching in JQ = Removal of ALL Faction
imnotyourmother
Anet,
Here is my idea and why.
Last night I played JQ for 6 hours and managed only 5 wins during that time. Of my 5 wins all 5 came when there were no lechers on my team.
As for the other 20 losses there were 2 or more Lechers on my team. I reported upwards of 45 people last night only to find that the same lecher would appear on my team the next time I got in to play.
What happened? All I can figure is that the dishonored wore off by the time I got back in!!!
So what I suggest is, all the faction that the lecher has be reduced to 0 once making it back to the outpost.
Now this should happen when 3 or more people report them.
What this would do is eliminate the lechers altogether. Since they are there for faction on the backs of others working very hard to try and win and then they get none after they get out they might decide help out instead of leching.
I bring you this post after having 4 players on my team leeching. What really urked me is the opposing team saying that we - the ones playing - were sh*t players and should fuggen go home. The game was 4 on 8!! How is that fair and balanced??? Its NOT. PERIOD.
Please consider this idea.

Dont hold your breath. I suggested something similar ages ago and it fell on to deaf ears. And expect a long list of whinny reasons posted by no one less than THE leechers/ botters; on why your suggestion should not be implemented. On a more positive note however; I wish that all leechers/ botters get rectal cancer and die.

No, because I can get my friends to report you for leeching and zero out your faction. Yeah, cause that's fair.
Too easily abused. No.

Well something has to be done cause this is not fair to me and the others on my team. With this double weekend coming up its going to be worse since your dishonored time will run out LONG before you can get in a again if you are NOT dishonored.
So, lengthen the Dishonored to 1 Hour or 2 hours. Just means they they can not play JQ for a while.
Or make it Accumulative. One dishonored is 15 minutes, 2 is 30 minutes 3 is 1 hour and 4 is 245 day ban
So why don't I just Lech? Or how about 8 lechers on each team so that the Lux win and get 3500 faction

I am in support of this idea.
I mean, the main issue always was finding 3 more suckers to actually report the AFKing bastard so that certainly limits the window for abuse.
Plus since this is pretty much only relevant in random arenas, I don't see that much problems with ganging up on a user and abusing this feature.

A "zeroing out" of faction is always a terrible idea. A reduction of say, 5k or something might be acceptable. However, such an idea would only fly in my book if the target was recognized as a leecher/AFKer both by the players and the system itself.
Regardless, it won't get me to /report players any sooner, since I'm still taking a huge enough risk of getting two dishonor points that I don't deserve.

Ohh, it seems it didn't read it through ....
I thought you meant that the reported player would lose all faction that they gained from the match and would also not gain the reward!
I am in favour of the above system and not the one the OP proposed since that seems a bit to punishing.
Although as SH above me points out, a 5k reduction would also be acceptable.

K, #1 - it's "leeching" not "leching." The verb is to leech, not lech.
#2 - The only reason you're posting now is because you had to deal with some leechers yourself. So you come here with a bad suggestion then try to defend it as good just because you're mad? Threads like this always work out well...

Removing faction earned during a match, or even an additional penalty in faction points (within reason), where you contribute nothing to the team is fair. Removing all the faction from an account and/or banning the account can result in punishing people with legitimate hardware or connection problems that happen to occur during a match.
The problem with abusing such a system has already been mentioned.

Let's also have it reset both of your faction titles and all your pvp titles to zero!

Don't play JQ as a Luxon, and you'll be fine. Luxons in JQ are notorious for using bots and leeching...especially late night in North America. It's almost impossible to win JQ as a Luxon around midnight EST because of this. I actually support a tougher penalty for leeching, but maybe a 5k faction reduction, like somebody said. That would surely stop pretty much all leeching.

Actually, a lot more than leechers think this idea is bad. It's too easily abused (you'd be surprised how many people go out of their way to grief others in this game). It wouldn't get rid of leechers because as Shayne pointed out, lots of people don't bother reporting because reporting a leecher can get you punished. The idea of punishing leechers is good on paper, but it needs a solid system to work.

Ok so we are in agreement.
Something needs to be done about this.
I am going to leech tonight and see if there is a major disadvantage from leeching or not leeching. Since it seems to be totally acceptable to pay the penalty of leeching as it stands now I can only come to the conclusion that wrecking other people's chances at winning is perfectly acceptable if I am willing to pay the price.
Also, Removing 5000 faction is more reasonable indeed since you get 3500 for winning then the leecher would loose some faction and stop leeching. After all 3500 faction is just one win and if you cash in your faction after every 5K in JQ (totally reasonable thing considering 15-20 minutes to get in) you would loose nothing if you got ganged reported you loose nothing.
This way they can also get rid of the dishonored system altogether.
So as I see it this is the solution within reason. Thanks...

Or they could just make it so you don't gain any faction in JQ or FA until you teleport through a portal. The 0 faction limit sounds ok, but I'd like this for only when someone is reported, not when someone leaves. Leavers arn't exactly leechers.
Orry
Yet they contribute just as much to the team.
The Drunkard
/notsigned- As people mentioned, the idea would be too easily exploited.
Instead of this, why not add a 60 second countdown timer, where if you have not moved or used a skill you loose out on any additional faction gained in the match and get a point for the dishonorable track. Leechers would actually have to stay near their keyboard and move their char every min.

Do not lump me together with everyone else in this thread. Total agreement with you would have meant my accepting to zero out any leecher's faction, which is not the case.
"I am going to run an experiment for one day and use that day's results as a base for all eternity."
Aside from my belief that it's silly of you to be trying to solve the problem by actively contributing to it, just leeching in the arena for one day is probably not going to give you a substantial amount of data. The data will probably be even more corrupt if you pick one of the days to be during the increase faction weekend, as the traffic in the arena will be different than usual.

I like the concept, but to zero a person's faction out is too punitive.
Suggestion; If a person is caught leeching in JQ or FA, they get dishonor as normal and lose the equivalent of 2 rounds of winning faction.
This would discourage leeching as there would be no gain.

Just switch sides when one side gets too many botters/leechers.

I get just as frustrated as the rest of you when I see leechers in my group, but I don't think removing all their faction is the best way to handle the situation. The risk of abuse is way too high.

There are bots and leechers on both sides! Besides, this idea wouldn't be too useful for the people that have already maxed one of the titles.

1. Many people don't report leechers because they think it's a waste of time since there isn't much of a penalty involved for leeching. With a more severe penalty (Zero faction awarded for confirmed leecher during a match + dishonorable), there's more incentive for people to report.
2. Lots of honest people don't report because they don't want to get slapped with dishonorable for false reporting. The more incentive there is to report leechers, the more reporting will be done, reducing the chances of getting dinged for "false reporting."
As for abuse, the leechers are abusing the hell out of the current system. The problem needs addressed because of this & the fact that it ruins the enjoyment of people who actually play the game. So which is more prone to abuse? A system where abuse is easily carried out by one person who can leech to his heart's content without the support of others and with little fear of reprisal, OR a system where abuse can only be done by co-operative efforts of a group of friends who happened to miraculously (yeah, right) entered the battle at the same time?

I would agree if the system itself knew which one is leeching or not...
I will be completely honest.
I am a troll.I go to ToA and anoy people,i have my limits tho (no i wont try to scam,no i wont spam on All chat,no i wont join an uw/fow team then leave)just things like following people, opening trade and closing,etc.98% of the time people laugh or go to storage, get a sugary thing and do it to you.To the point,i will admit that if they do this i could go with my friends about 2 times a year to JQ to report people randomly so they lose faction. If i would do it,ANYONE will.
SO,i think this would help as a solution for a while (note:for a while)
IF you get reported 8 times for leeching (be it in one game or several) in under 24 hours, you will get dishonorable for that area for 12ish hours. And another random hex that makes it so if you get reported 2 times in another pvp area in under 3 hours, while the previous area's dishonorable is in effect, you will get dishonorable for the 2nd area for 3ish hours.
Problem with my solution:It may overkill whats already been dead for years.PVP.but as i said is a temporary one...
Also please make the system check if when a person leaves a PVP game,he wouldv lost in about 2 mins anyways,so no DH pts will be added...
