Change to Drunkard for the better
MithranArkanere
The two main problems with Drunkard are:
- Game breaking. If you drink while playing, having to stop to drink or drink while you play is bothersome.
* This is fixed by increasing the upper cap of drunkard levels from 5 minutes to a higher number, let's say 20 or 40 minutes. You drink the same, you spend the same time drunk, you stop to drink less.
- When you have disabled the postprocessing effects, there is no way to know your current drunkard level. You have to keep track of it by counting minutes or having the hero panel open.
* This is fixed with an icon effect for ALL drinks, not just grog.
That's how you 'fix' drunkard.

The drunkard title in it's current method of attainment is a HUGE waste of time and resources, and it invokes no skill whatsoever. For those of you that /notsigned this, you either:
a.) got it the hard way and don't want it to be easier for future IAH candidates,
b.) you're a child that likes to waste his/her time because time is abundant for children [until they become adults... as I am], or
c.) you have a [false] sense of achievement because of the time-investment requirement [again, no skill involved in this title, and is a huge waste].
These are the logical standpoints I see in you nay-sayers' [flawed/baised] reasoning.

Drunken Master is sort of a timer in and of itself. The Skill lasts 90 seconds so after activating it 2 times u have 3 min drunk. After 3 min drink some more and keep up the 33% ias ims. FTW

It's not hard, just time consuming IF you don't take in-game opportunities to be drunk. (Selling stuff, LFGs, or playing through missions and stuff) Tip: the 3 minute varieties of booze work great for questing & stuff.
It takes 166 hours to max IAH, type /age and see how much time you've spent playing Guild Wars (which in itself can be viewed as a waste of time) Are you saying that getting IAH isn't the most awesome, challenging, and "leet" thing anyone can ever do in their entire life? Noooooooo! ![]() |
a.) got it the hard way and don't want it to be easier for future IAH candidates,Sorry, but you won't catch me DEAD wasting time trying to get a silly title. Want my honest opinion, though? Whenever I see other IAHs, I can't help but see them using drunkard bots. Either that, or they've wasted a grant-spanking amount of time for nothing because there're so many players out there that used the drunkard-bot and made ZERO effort getting that title. In conclusion, none of the IAHers shine in my eyes because the IAH title is totally bottable. That's just me, though.
b.) are young teenagers/kids (most likely 14 years and younger) that like to waste their time because time is abundant from a teenager's/kid's perspective [until they become adults... as I am... and realize that time is no longer as abundant], or
c.) have a [false] sense of achievement because of the time-invested [again, there's essentially no skill involved in this title, and is a huge waste of T-I-M-E].

3) Have a movie playing on one side of the screen, and click level 5 ale every five minutes.
Getting through quite a few shows I've been meaning to watch via drunkard, I'll give it that.

Anyway drunkard timer should have been there since the beggining ... is never too late to do the right changes but seems Anet wont move a finger.

Or, option 3, as someone two-thirds of the way through drunkard can tell you.

No, I'm not saying that at all. (I don't fit into any of those categories, BTW) I'm saying that anyone dumb enough to think that the only way to gain minutes towards the drunk title is to sit around town drinking (or risking the use of a drunk bot, which is really stupid) and doing nothing else when they could be aquiring minutes while doing other things in the game shouldn't complain that the title is too hard to do because they haven't figured out the concept of multi-tasking.

You mean every 3 mins right ? because previous 2 dont count towards title , otherwise you are wasting time.

Oh, aye, I know. I didn't say I liked my method, I'm just saying it's one of the only legitimate ways to get through the tedious grind that is Drunkard. I'm all for change, personally, because anything that makes me say "Why in Dhuum's name shouldn't I bot this" is kind of a problem.

Just a guess but, this is kind of the reason why the banned players botted in the first place, and I'm guessing this is the kind of bot that the general community are almost welcoming (then again, it's just a guess.)
Point being, this title requires too much afk time while having to be near the keyboard all the same. Kind of dopey. Though the best fix anet can do in order to keep the balancing for this title is to just add in a timer effect like the sugars (that icon with the picture of the skill or effect and a little bar under it that decreases as time goes by. Yeah. That icon.)
While we're at it, why not give the drunken effects to just a few alcohols? Like maybe to the grog or other special beers. That swirling screen is just too annoying to go out an adventure with and even if we do click that little box that takes off the effect we are left with low grade graphics. If anet goes with the excuse of unchecking the box than what's the point of them making special graphic effects for the games environment? By the way, let's remember that it takes a LONG time to get that title finished, meaning we won't be switching back to the awesome graphics effect anytime soon. So yeah, keep the drunken bum effects to just a few alcohols and let the others remain clear so we can enjoy the goodies anet wanted to to see, hmm?!
Oh, and as for the time it takes to upkeep the drunkenness, like the others said, maybe it should be tweaked up. Just a bit, at least. Besides, you don't see drunk people go sober in a matter of minutes. Otherwise we wouldn't have as much drunk driving problems as we do now.

Yes its quite annoying to have to click into inventory every 1-2 minutes, doesnt exacly promote game play.
There could be other solutions,
It could have "auto cast", drink a certain amount and manage a steady drunken state & a auto drink state is activated. Then it auto consume drinks from inventory, similar to tickets.
It could be set that the high drunken state, when ending always activate certain emotes & quotes. "I need more fuel", "cant I get another drink", "I can stop anytime", "utterly inexcusable", "x bottles of y on the wall" etc..
Hangover, Death penalty is given when a drunken state runs out dry

Then the question is: Why are you being a conformist, saying that we should keep the current flawed method of attainment when the fact remains abundantly clear that the Drunkard title is a blatent waste of time and should be changed to eliminate the source of the problem (time-wasting)? Why keep forcing players to commit to wasting that time multi-tasking? Why force them to waste time? Why? WHY? WHY!?!?!?

2. Yes, it's a time consuming title to get, but aren't they all? The point I've been trying to make is that you do not have to sit around doing nothing else to get it. It's only a waste of time if that's all you're doing.
3. How is multi-tasking a waste of time? If you're NOT multi-tasking when working towards GWAMM (The only reason for going for the drunkard title on a character, AFAIK) you're wasting all kinds of time!
I've got a new character that I'm running through the game (just hit the port cities). She's 11 hours and 14 minutes old. I've gotten her up to 326 minutes (5-1/2 hours) drunk without spending any of those minutes standing around town. The reason I've gotten so many minutes is because I've been tapping a keg every 4-5 minutes when out doing missions & quests! It only takes a few seconds to open window, click on the keg, and close the window again. It does take away from the flow of the game a bit, but if you don't worry about being drunk every single second, it's not a problem.

If people want to waste their time and cash on them then by all means let them. /signed for the effect icon, /notsigned for the rest.

/notsigned for drunk icon.
/signed for increasing the level requirement for drunkard points to level 5 only.
/signed for increasing the requirement for Drunkard(1) to 5,000 points, and IAH to 50,000 points.
Let's really make the Drunkard title more challenging, giving pursuers a REAL sense of achievement after investing this increased amount of time and Ale!
