Survivor Title - Getting to be the most elusive title of all?
The Real Avalon
Basically, I've been raising Legendary Survivors for a while now.
Due to lousy servers on ANet's behalf I have not been able to get past Survivor (1) since 2 whole months. (Being 5 characters) Just now I've been disconnected again and my Survivor died. The event made me start to think. Lag on Guild Wars has been getting worse and worse and worse. If it were to continue like this, the title will be unattainable in regular play and also unattainable due to Dwarven Boxing. The way it's been lately, has made the game absolutely unplayable for survivors. Any thoughts?

I've had lag a couple times while working on my survivor. I just exit gw as soon as I notice it.

Make a more imba H/H team and stick to normal mode, farm quests and skill caps. You can get survivor without even being remotely threatened ever, hence a disconnect generally won't even matter.
Dzjudz
Try doing it h/h instead of dwarven boxing and you'll be fine. I finished Factions and Nightfall on my survivor char. Lagged out during Eternal Grove for a minute but my heroes kept me alive. The flags under your compass might also be of use. Skill capping is a great way to get xp.

Via dwarven boxing its still certainly the easiest title. I lost one, due to lag, but its my fault. When your connection/Anet's servers are unstable, don't play your survivor, simple.
Zahr Dalsk
My favourite way to make a legendary survivor is just do the game in HM with a good H/H team and a backline build. Even lag doesn't create much of a problem.

There are slow and safe ways of achieving Survivor, no matter how bad one's connection gets. Just this past Friday, my latest character reached r2, which is the farthest I've ever come on the title, and I've just been doing it on a normal playthrough of the different storylines.
That said, I've experienced periods ever since the Monday of the CNY where my ping in GW sat in the 700-800s of milliseconds, but I sometimes can't tell whether the problem is my own internet being slow, or my connection with ANet being bad.

suck it up and pay the XX ectos for kathandrax hammers + the run to the quest.
youll save yourself a lot of frustration. and if you're on an unreliable connection & there's nothing you can do about it (i.e. ATT DSL->GW server(s)) then this is probably the best option for 100% setting it up in your HOM.

I hope this is a joke that dwarven boxing for survivor is tough... I did survivor back when it first became a title through skill capping and missions it took quite a bit of time and challenges but it was far more rewarding. I also have to say big woop you died start over try again its not that hard of a title even with a bad connection with the modern quick ways of achieving it.
I also want to say from the perspective of someone who worked for an ISP that the problem is more than likely on your side of the connection more than anets. A company like them normally would locate their servers at a pretty high end backbone just because you live extremely far from it or have an ISP with terrible routing to it doesn't mean their servers are crap.

yeah, he is right. there is some things online about how to improve your connection. might try tracing your IP with like a IP shark and see how it stacks up on your end just to make sure.

If you experience lag over a long period of time just ignore playing your survivor character to be on the safe side. But of course, if you're a Ranger or a Paragon you can play HM and be perfectly safe with a decent hero/hench set up.
Warvic
i got 2 via dwarfen boxing. and one was with wireless internet. that one was pretty scary tho.
I heard dwarfen boxing is very hard now. So my advice is to go skillhunting. Especially on double weekends. (you could do it in one bonus weekend). Just use alot of defensise builds + pain inverter

Yes, play the game instead of using cheesy shortcuts like Boxing to get a survivor. The worst thing anet did was cheapen that title the way they did.
Or any other char. One of my sins went /R as a Crit barrager for a while, nice and safe with the backline H/H.
Havent noticed any increase in DC myself - please remember its not always the anet servers (even though we like to think it is). Theres lots of choke points between you and the servers.

Yes, you should be fine on every other profession but I was reffering to inexperienced players. Their safest option would be to play on a Ranger or a Paragon.

I think the most elusive title (excluding GWAMM and pvp titles) is and always will be LDOA. Survivor has gotten harder as of late, but it's still very very doable if you're careful and don't get too unlucky. Before keg farming was nerfed, you could get max survivor from character creation to finish in about 2 hours. I don't know if you still can or not, though.

I was also fortunate enough to get LS on my 'Sin literally the day before Keg Farming got the big nerf hammer. If I recall correctly, I got LS on my 'Sin when it was ~3-4 hours old (I went afk for about 30 minutes to an hour at one point and forgot to log off).

Wait for next Halloween and farm Captured Dhuum Essences or whatever they're called. It's 15k XP for 3 I believe, and they come very quickly with a balanced clear of UW.

TBH, every time I've gone for leg surv (4 so far), I've done it to r1 just adventuring, then went boxing for the rest. HM, 37 runs or less with heroes scrolls (Yes, some money can't be avoided if you're after r3 fast) and it's done. Strangely, every time I've done it, I've had absolutely no lag for the whole effort, then been killed by it almost instantly when the title was done.
Another note to add, if you know you're going to be doing it, and the toon isn't a Derv or Para, then for your own sake, start it in Cantha and go sin sec, for the extra dagger damage in Kilroy. Para's, use all Centurions, Ele, 9 to all elemental att's and prismatic insignia's, little things like this make your life a whole lot easier.
'Bout the only advice I can give, if you're truly serious about it, and would rather delete a failure than keep it, make sure u spend as little as possible on the toon and it's heroes. Steal runes and insignia's off of existing heroes, no need for perf salv kit there, and steal their weapons too.
That way, worst case scenario it's cost u some uses of an exp salv kit, a set of 1k armor, several heroes scrolls, and some of your time. Leg surv is probably one of the cheapest and easiest max titles to chase, you just have to plan it right. Doesn't matter at all that you need to blow a few dozen 1k scrolls, the poit is a max title for 1 days work and under 50k is just FTW. Straight up.
One last thing, if you are indeed going the boxing route, practice, practice, PRACTICE first and make sure you have it down before you go throwing a potential survivor at it. When you can get through every time, and have a rhythm, then you can safely start. Best I ever did in Kilroy was a perfect HM run, when I'm going for a Surv, average is usually about 30 energy by the end, doing well, 25 or less. I could snowball this into a huge Kilroy guide, but that'd make it totally tl;dr.
Basic fact of it is, there is a method to boxing, combo's can and should be used, and Kilroy himself must be kept alive. If you have to, break aggro and run away so Kilroy isn't in their bubble, then take it back to him. Without his shout, you're toast waiting to be buttered. One last thing: Don't try to grind Maghma's room with Kilroy dead, just run and re=pop him, then keep going, make sure you attack the same target he does, more importantly, don't try to kill Maghma before you kill the 4 dwarves with him.

For the life of me I don't understand why people do the Boxing thing. Its so repetitive and boring. I like a good challenge. I started with my survivor in Cantha. I got her first rank on Shing Jea Island and I had also gained some XP towards rank 2 just on that island. I recently got her to Keineng Center. I didn't use any scrolls either.
My advice is to always take Heroes or Henches. It doesn't hurt to be cautious. Also, if you can get some summoning stones. Use one. IT will be your ally for 30 minutes I think and it won't cut down the amount of XP you receive from a battle. Also, I would NOT recommend a 'Sin if you are doing it the way I am. It might be fine for boxing, but I personally wouldn't do it the way I've been earning my survivor title. You could try to find out which prof is best to be for survivor and then 2nd prof it for one of these:
Necromancer for summoning minions to be "meat bags" to help protect you from the enemies. They are good body blockers. Also, necros can obtain skills to self-heal.
Monk because you can heal yourself with multiple skills, as well as protect yourself by reducing damage you take etc.
Ranger because you can tame an animal to be your companion and when you get into a fight, it will run, fly, or whatever out into the enemy and attack it. Troll Unguent is kinda slow to cast for healing though... Antidote Signet helps rid yourself of conditions that you can suddenly die from.
Ritualist is nice too. If you can obtain SoS (Signet of Spirits) you can spirit spam a bunch to help fight for you. Also, Rits can heal themselves too.
Best thing to do is to experiment with various builds to see which one works best for you before you do Survivor. Also, if you have severe lag, do NOT play on your Survivor or be cautious like I am. If I see the color dot changing to yellow, I carefully clear enemies and then wait a little before moving forward so I don't aggro any enemies in case of lag. Also, use the flags below your compass to control your party.

Might go against your principles, personally, getting xp and loot to me is sorta what GW is about anyway, whilst having a bit of fun (I actually have a hell of a good time boxing, reminds me of "Test your Might!" in MK ) at the same time.
Tomato=tomato. All good.
Remember this, it could be a lot worse, I could be here espousing the pro's of having goddamn Pokemon/Bakugan/Duel Masters, w/e, in GW in the form of "Polymock". Now that, that shows that somewhere, a coder needs to be shot.

have had a few survivors go the lag way....though my last one went to being overzealous with oakhearts-----killing the wurms outside of boreal. Have 2 more working on the title (one is at 300k, the other is over half way 600+k)....I usually play other characters to find out the server lag-y-ness....if I find it is, then my survivor stays and other characters get out. I like to kill the insects outside of yolon haven with extra scrolls and bounty....slow but if there is lag my henchies can usually keep me alive.
pumpkin pie
its not the hardest/elusive to get title. I am going to have 3 legendary survivors pretty soon, kekekeke, patient is the key.
My survivors toon isn't my main, so I only play them when I know my connection is good.

No amount of lag can get you killed if you do HM wurms outside boreal. So, if you lagging out. Do that.

This. Even if you are melee, just go ranged instead.. or heck equip a staff/wand and wand the feckers to death.. even in HM you won't die from lag, even if it is in the 1,000+ range

The biggest mistake to make is using auto-run while lagging. I lost connection while doing this and when I reconnected my character had run into a very large mob and died.

I hear playing an imbagon is an easy/safe way of getting survivour. Since you got pretty high armour and health (from shield and spear) and stay around the backline, you won't be taking too much fire (since AI targets low armour and health characters).
Otherwise I don't know. I got my title from 2hours of keg farming which has since been nerfed.

Maybe not as fast as other methods but 100% safe providing you don't auto-run or get cocky at the further set of three wurms. A Fire ele with Shell Shock worked quite well for my Sin and I sucessfully survived multiple disconnects with my, thankfully now ex, crap connection. Take some Lockpicks out there too.

Wait wait WAIT!!!
If you want the title, just make a toon that uses RANGED attacks.
Go to Eye of the north - Borials Station.
Exit, and kill the 10 snow wurms on the hill.
If you have Hard Mode then use that and kill the wurms. If you are a ranger you can degen them to death and take 0 damage. use some scrolls and you can get the title in in week or less.
After all, no one but you will know how you got the title. I did it on my war and the only chance of dying is in hardmode running down the hill and the Oaks killing you faster than you can map out.

The great thing about regular play is that you'll be less of a target with high health, you have heroes/henchmen or other friends to watch your back so laggy servers isn't a huge drawback.
***Beware of playing in Factions though, that campaign is full of spike damage and daze.***

Got my first and what will be my only Legendary survivor the other day. My method was the wurms outside Boreal Station (Ice Cliff chasms), with a slayers insight scroll and HM you get 924 exp per wurm.
Probably not the fastest way to do it or the most exciting, but the chances of dying especially with lag are very slim.

The only elusive thing about the survivor title for me personally is that I can't get it on my main which was created before titles arrived.
But if we would hypothetically get a one time chance, I would go for the safe route on that one and play 'regular' way.
