I wanted to post a discussion for a specific mention of, "Cataclysmic Events" that players may bear witness to in Gw, before GW2 hits. I also wanted to get opinions on what you guys think this is all about since I haven't seen much on this specific topic and it really jumped out of the interview at me from all of the info that was in there as something "new". Here's the link: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/l...t10423329.html
The info pertaining to this thread is in the new content question that the interviewer poses. Please keep all posts in this thread related to the topic
thanks.

not sure if i want to call this a waste of a thread or not, but woulda been nice if you quoted what you were referring to...

Yes, we have a lot of ideas on our minds, probably more than we will be able to implement. We love the game and always try to come up with new things we hope players will enjoy. Who knows, maybe players will bear witness to some of the cataclysmic events that transform Tyria prior to Guild Wars 2?
personally i think they like to talk a lot but not do a whole lot (don't expect much). just wait until the books come out.

guild? I am supposed to have a guild?

well for those of us staying on with gw1 I certainly hope they are not TOO cataclysmic since gw1 should still be playable after the 'release' of gw2.
though something along the lines of the earthquakes and chasms that opened up with the release of eye may be ok.

Maybe all the races come together prior to the release of GW2 and a new questline is created? Leads us into the events of GW2, or at least maybe the start of the events?

all good ideas, but it states that it's in tyria that all of this happens. also, if you read the backstory about the first installment of GW2, it takes place in tyria, and tyria only, because cantha has closed off its borders and Elona is under the rule of Palawa joko and no one goes there, so it has to happen in tyria only. I hope they change a lot of the landscape in tyria and add some new enemies and some new weapons with maybe a new high-end area.

Where the Great destroyer hangs out is a dragon that might come to life one of these days while you are lava hopping.

Under Drakkar lake there is a giant Wurm/beast/ dragon/baddy that might wake and break through the ice while you are dancing with the lady of the lake ?

If you guys know of anymore baddies waiting to wake up maybe it's an idea to post them ?

It says Tyria, but the planet is called Tyria AND the continent is Tyria. It can be confusing, but I thought after 3 years you would know it.

I think we just witnessed the cataclysmic events.....with last month's uber nerfage

in all seriousness, that was nothing more than an off-the-cuff remark, and that combined with Anet's amazing ability to underperform, consistently miss deadlines and promises, and generally fail and keeping GW1 fun, I'd stop with the idle speculation.

The secret message is "We fked up Guild Wars with Factions+Nightfall. Here is our excuse why we will exclude them from the future."

Tyria:
1. Continent - Prophecies takes place in the continent of Tyria (plus the Crystal Desert, that one's not well defined). So does Eye of the North.

2. World - Tyria is also the name of the entire world.

In short, Tyria refers to two things.

I think it'd be a bit nifty if they did something subtle. Like.. one of the dragons are just gone. Specifically the one in the Charr Homelands area. He isn't noticed too much. Simply have him vanish. Ooo. Mystique.

Looking forward to whatever they can throw at us.... just not getting my hopes up.

Some BMP missions would be very suitable. The original 4 have been used to show us events that happened in the past, as far as the battle between Turai Ossa and Palawa Joko, so a glimpse of the future should be possible too.

In this way, the world of Tyria wouldn't need to change, so new players can still access all original content.

I'd even pay for it.

*gasp*

And iirc, the novels will describe the events only a few years prior to us entering GW2, so it would indeed be nice if we could be able to witness the Battle of Ascalon City, or any other of the events that'll happen between present day in EotN and GW2.

The thing is, that isn't possible if Anet wants to stay true to their timeline. The awaking of the dragons doesn't start until years after we kill the Great Destroyer.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2 here is an excerpt for you bro:Setting

Main article: The Movement of the World

The Guild Wars 2 story is set about 250 years after the events in the Eye of the North expansion. The world of Tyria is drastically changed from its original form. These changes are caused by elder dragons resurfacing after millennia of slumber. The first of the dragons, called Primordus, awoke during Eye of the North and proceeded to take over the underground network of Asuran tunnels under Tyria, driving the Asuras to the surface. Other dragons also resurfaced during the intervening centuries; Zhaitan rose about the sunken holy city of Arah in the ruined kingdom of Orr, and severed the sea route between Kryta and Cantha; another arose to the south of the Crystal Desert, cutting off the link to Elona; a third dragon, Jormag, arose in the Far Shiverpeaks and pushed the Norn south into land previously controlled by the Dwarves.

The human faction is much reduced. The resurfacing dragons caused massive floods that destroyed many coastal cities in Kryta, including its capital city, Lion's Arch and the PvP Battle Isles. The humans have established a new capital in Divinity's Reach after moving north from the coast. They're governed by a constitutional monarch and senate which attempts to balance all the human factions there. Many refugees flocked to Kryta from the rest of Tyria; most importantly, the humans from Ascalon. Ascalon now belongs entirely to the Charr apart from a single fortress, Ebonhawke. Ascalon City itself is a ghost town, populated by the vengeful spirits of its former citizens who slay all who dare enter.

Besides the humans, the other sentient races have a comparatively better time. The Norn and the Charr continue to honor their peace formed from a mutual respect. The Asura have spread through all cities, maintaining a network of teleportation gates but also remaining strictly neutral. The Charr achieve victory over Ascalon and settle into the former human capital of Rin. A new race, the Sylvari, appear fully formed from the mysterious tree that the centaur Ventari tended to until his death.

The Dwarves, who pursued the Destroyers deep and long at the end of Eye of the North, are now deathless creatures of stone; the few who remain watch the ages go by, interacting little with the other sentient races, if at all.

Lion's Arch has been rebuilt from the floods and is the new portal into the Mists; it takes the place of the Battle Isles.

In Cantha, the successor of emperor Kisu defeated the Kurzick and Luxon factions and reunited Cantha under one banner. Cantha then became much more isolationist; all non-human races were pushed out and the borders fortified. With the elder dragon's undead corsair fleet disrupting travel, there has been no contact with mainland Canthans for a generation.

In Elona, Palawa Joko successfully rebuilds his undead army and lays siege to Elona. Vabbi is all but destroyed, its former splendor ruined by a famine caused by Joko diverting the river Elon. The Sunspears are broken by Joko's armies. The land bridge between Elona and the Crystal Desert is blocked by Joko's minions and the dragon, and the only news that slips through is carried by the Order of Whispers, who are now spread over all of Tyria.

Developers have stated that much of the story between Guild Wars 1 and 2 will be explained in the first novel of a three book deal with Pocket Books (see notes).

Guild Wars 2 PvE will still tell a story but will depart from a single monolithic storyline. It will instead use smaller story arcs (like those in Eye of the North) allowing the player more of a sandbox environment to play in.

After 4 and a half years of playing, I DO know.

And then all of the Luxons drown! LOL!! Bummer if you're in a Luxon guild...

That would invalidate half of Factions, eliminate Alliance Battles, FA & JQ, so there is like zero chance of this happening.

I don't understand why they would implement any "cataclysmic" events in GW anymore. GW2 is 250 years AFTER GW1, and EoTN was supposed to bridge the gap. A Welcome GW2 event would be cool, but don't alter the GW world in any way, that would be ass sauce.

i have a feeling that island in the northwestern corner of the Tyrian Map will finally be implemented...

*think about it... what is the point of having a decently sized landmass on the map if you cant even get to it?*

but that is just speculation.

Why does everyone keep saying the Jade Sea.The made clear already where 4 out of the 5 named dragons will come from and I don't think there will be anymore.

Primordus is seen at the end of Eye of the North so we know where he is.
Jormag has been confirmed to be the thing under Drakkar Lake.
Zhaitan was under Arah hints why Orr rose when he woke.
Kralkatorrik is seen in the Charr homelands in Eye of the North.
The only dragon they haven't told of where it came from is what wiki.guildwars2.com calls the Deep Sea Dragon. It may be under the Jade Sea but hasn't been said yet. Oh if you bought Eye of the North on CD the manual tells how the Jade Sea is turning back into water and how the Forest is coming back to life.

See is stuff like that is the reason why crap gets started, when players depend on the unofficial wiki to get there info. Any one can edit those posts. They can make the dragons sound like giant rabbits and people will go with it.

Passage from the unofficial wiki
"Known ancient dragons

* Primordus
* The elder dragon of Orr, known as Zhaitan according to the official Guild Wars 2 website.
* The "Deep Sea Dragon"
* The "Ascalon Dragon" who slept in the northern mountains. (WHAT?!?!)
* The "Desert Dragon" of the Crystal Desert
* The elder dragon of ice and snow, unofficially known as Drakkar. He rests in Drakkar Lake, Far Shiverpeaks."

The Ascalon Dragon? The Ascalon Dragon and the Desert Dragon are both Kralkatorrik.

People need to start relying on official information not stuff from a unofficial sites where people can just make up crap and post it for the world to see.
