I've always assumed you need exactly 600 health for the build to work but, I hear people saying that you don't need exactly 600 health? Does the build work with more/less health?

-Sorry if this is in the wrong forum

600 is the least you want. Spirit Bond heals you when you take more than 60 damage. Protective Spirit makes you take at most, 10% of your total health in damage. So if you had 600 health, and used PS, you'd take 60 damage. If you have less than 600 then you won't be able to trigger Spirit Bond to heal you. Unless you reach a point where the heal from Spirit Bond is LESS than the damage taken from PS and your max health, you can keep boosting your health. When I run 600, I typically have 680-800 health depending on any cons I may use or Morale Boosts.

Uhm, no, from wiki "Contrary to the description, Spirit Bond will heal whenever an ally would take a damage packet above 60, even if it is reduced below 60 by other means like Protective Spirit or Shield of Absorption."

like yasmine said, spirit bond triggers on actuall dmg, not on the dmg reduced with PS, atleast 600 hp is needed for the dmg done by retribution(maximal dmg possible).

( 33% retribution reflection, 0.33 x60 is about 20, thats the maximal dmg possible at 15 smiting prayer)

but your health can be above 600 although it has no point.

Pay attention also that having too much health can be a problem, because the damage after prot spirit would be too high, and spirit bond could not be enough to keep you alive. I learned this that time when somebody put down symbiosis when i was tanking with my 600 (which was actually at 2300 health iirc).

exactly... 600-700 is just the perfect number for the build, less will give you less chance of mistake more will give more damage and potentially don't have enough healing from spirit bond.

and yeah about the spirit bond is activated before protective spirit effect... that's why is important to have a low level armour

but for example... the feather/celestial farm on napui quarter /HM) is done with a 600 like build without the smitter and you only have 440 health... this build works exactly with the same basics that the 600 build have...

There's alot of confusion going around because "600" is a term people have adopted to decribe a spirit bond tank (which would probably be a much better term).

The only time you need 600 hp or more is when there is a smiter on your team using retribution and holy wrath, which after the recent nerf, is heavily losing popularity.

Most of the time, people are looking for a "600" purely to serve as a tank for other forms of damage (not smiting). When this is the case, 600 hp is actually irrelavent. Usually, around 400hp is what you should have (superior divine, prot, vigor, and the rest + energy).
