My PC can do Prime95 12+ hours but crash gaming

I'd go for a 750-800 watt Corsair, Thermaltake, OCZ, PC Power & Cooling, Antec, Enermax, or Zalman with at least 50 or more combined amps on the +12V rail(s).

Wich one is better , corsair TX750W or corsair HX750 ? it will work with an HD 5970 ?
Elder III
^ only real difference is the HX version is SIlver Certified and costs allot more - I'd get the TX - it is the same in every other aspect. Either one will handle a 5970 or any other video card on the market.

Ladies and gentlements , It seem I finally found the origin of the issue, belive it or not, is my primary HDD !!!
Now , I don't know what is going on , but I turned on my PC today and crashed before windows boot (at windows 7 logo screen) so I rebooted , then a screen is asking to repair the PC , but as this happened every time I boot the PC for the first time of the day , I decided to go throguh the bios and disable a couple of things like JMicron etc.
Then my PC didn't boot at all , it was asking to start windows normaly or to run the windows repair, didn't matters what I choose , I couldn't go out of that screen.
Then I reboot the PC again and went to the bios and enabled the JMicron drivers again , then windows started normaly but , but windows found my HDD and it recognize it as an ATA instead of SATA .
SO I am stuck now, how can I setup my bios so windows can recognize my HDD as SATA and not as ATA, I believe the issue is here , as onces I ran the Windows repair and said that there is a problem with driver 6.1.7600.16385 , but I didn't know what was it as windows repair couldn't fix it , so now , I found out in the properties of my HDD the driver is 6.1.7600.16385 !
Can someone tell me how to setup this ?
Thanks.

In that case, get another videocard in the same price range if possible. It happens very rarely, but sometimes certain motherboards dont go together with certain videocards.
This could be easy to test of course by borrowing someone else's and trying it on your setup.

The only thing on my system that I didn't change is the CPU. As far as I know the CPU and the memory are the only pieces I can say they work. They passed any kind of stress test (prime95, memtest)
Another part of the story is that this 9800gx2 , few months before , it reached temperatures of up to 120º C in less than 5 minutes of Furmark stability test (see my previous Thread about it) , so I RMAd the card but the support department said they tested the card for 12 hours and temps were normal, strangelly , when I received the same 9800GX2 the temps were ok , not crossing the 70ºC as it was 2 years ago when I bought the card. So I think they changed something or cleaned the video card inside , anyway , I am angry because since the first day I received this card from the RMA is not working, and this happend 4 times already ! And believe me , they crossed my line , tomorrow I will call and insist they change the video card (I have proofs, BSODs , screenshots etc etc.), and of course last time I buy from them ever, I had enough.

Found a temporary fix , I was reading the whole night about the GRAPHICS_DRIVER_TDR_FAULT and in some forums they recommend to use the windows 7 seven drivers and not the Nvidia one , and it just work , but as I don't have nvidia control panel , I don't know if I am running multi-gpu ? or if physx is enabled ? Anyway , this is a temp solution until I get a new videocard
Is the video card faulty ? or is this only driver related ?
Anyway I am planning to get a HD 5970 , and as is a multi-gpu , I wonder if it will work with my mobo P5P43TD PRO

In my opinion, stay away from multi GPU solutions. They are nothing but trouble for troubleshooting reasons. (Well, the new SLi mode on the GTX400 series is awesome, but it's an expensive proposition).
I will warn you... if you are used to the nVidia control panel, and like the game profiles thing, etc, you might kill yourself trying to use Catalyst Control Center. It's...horrible. 10.3 drivers seem to have fixed performance issues, but CCC is still terrible.
I'd recommend going to an HD5870 or a GTX480, but it's up to you.

Well, the temporary fix doesn't work either...... just had the same crash while playing gw...
Anyway , after the crash I got a message in the bios to fix the overclocking O_o , but I am not doing overclocking , according to the Asus manual , I need to setup my RAM memory at 1333mhz (my ram is 1600Mhz) , and all in the bios is setup with the Corsair recommended timings and volt.
Anyway I put in auto the timing and the bios setup at default my RAM to 1066mhz.
All the Prime95 test were done with my memory at 1333Mhz (test over 12 hours !) and Memtest86 at 1333Mhz too (16 hours test !)
Did my motherboard just become crasy ? or this can be video card related too ? lol

Ok , now things are really scary and I have no idea what is failing !
I installed my video card and my PSU on my brother's computer , and it works 100% perfect , so the video card is perfect ! and also the PSU. So the Video card is safe , PSU is safe and is not drivers issue ! My brohter is running exactly the same windows 7 as I do (because I installed). Note: My bro has a DDR2 mobo so I cannot test my ram there.
Now , there is something that doesn't work on my PC , it can be HDD , RAM , CPU or Mobo
Damn , I ordered a new kit of RAM : OCZ Memory Platinum 4 GB, PC3-10666, 1333 MHz, 7, Non-ECC, Kit Of 2
According to the my Mobo compatibility list , this one works in any setup at 1333Mhz.
Now if that fails , what do you guys think this is about ? Mobo ? CPU ? RAM ? HDD ?

Ram and HDD are easy enough to swap out and check with other parts - mobo or CPU is what you have left whenever you eliminate every other possibility.

Alright, today got the new modules (OCZ Platinum 4 GB DDR3) configured in bios at 1333Mhz 7-7-7-20 1.8V.
Tada , I was gaming the whole day lol (lucky I got a day off at work
) and the PC works perfect , I don't want to jinx it but it was stable, playing avp for hours, then gw for a couple of hours then back to avp for hours.... and it didn't crash, no errors , nada nada nada
The corsair kit , I don't know what is the problem with it , I can ran stress test / memtest the whole day and is fine , but gaming.....
Are the modules damaged ? or it is compatibility issues ? I would love to know that so I can sell my Corsair kit.
cheers.

Bad news, my pc just crashed , while watching a youtube video , and it crashed the same old way ! ....
Now , only 3 components , HDD , mobo or CPU.
Memory modules are brand new as I mentioned before , I tested my PSU and Video card on my brother's PC and they work perfect.
Now, I will test on another HDD and see if it is the HDD giving me the problem.

OK , what I have done in the past few days;
-Opened a case with Asus. Answer: Send the motherboard to the Reseller for repair.
-Opened a topic at the Reseller. They recommended to check OCZ website for RAM settings. They pinted at Video Card and PSU as faulty, but I told them they work 100% on another PC, tested by myself for 4 days in a row.
-Opened a topic in OCZ forums regarding RAM settings. Answer: I am currently running the correct settings for the RAM.
What is still pending;
-Try another HDD
-Try a different windows version
-Test with another CPU
-I still have my XFX 790i ultra motherboard around so I may try with it.
I will update soon.

try it with whatever compatible parts that you have access to, don't rma it until last resort, since you might not see it again for a month (or more). :/

Ok, my system is rock-solid stable now , no crashes
As when the computer crashed , I can hear the sound looping or something (like the video I posted in youtube) so I though to install an old xfi xtreme pci-e card and disable the onboard (Realtek) audio.
That solved the issue.
I have no idea why the audio was doing that , strange, but at least , is solved now. Should I RMA the motherboard ?
Thank you.

hmm, I didn't remember any sound looping, that would indeed be a good indicator as to a potential problem. If your old sound card gives you good quality sound, then I would say to just keep it and not worry about any RMA process. Did you ever try updating or changing your sound card drivers? Might be worth a try if you want to mess with it anymore.
glad to hear it's running stable for you.

Yeah , I tried the drivers on the asus.com website , the card I have is giving good quality sound

Anyways , I will keep my system like this and avoid the rma process

My PC crashed yesterday , same same old way. So now , I tried a new HDD and windows seven was giving issues again..... so formatted again the new HDD and installed vista ultimate 64 , it installed perfect , no issues so far.
Now I will test the rest of day to see if it crash. And if now gives a problem , there is only two things left: CPU or Mobo.
EDIT:: Notes about yesterday's crash:
It started when I turned on the PC , windows 7 failed to boot (it was stuck at windows 7 logo), after a restart windows gave the message that windows couldn't boot because it wasn't responding, and it may be because a change of hardware. So I booted into the O.S. and while playing AvP (like 15 minutes) it crashed , same way, mouse pointer artifacted , strange sound looping on the speakers and then no signal on the screen. Something I noticed , and it was really weird , I restarted the system and I went to intel.com to see if I could download a better chipset driver, but the support link was down and intel.com wasn't responding, so I clicked again the support link and this time (I could see Firefox's progress green bar on the bottom) it seems the link was loading so I was watching it when suddendly , my speaker made a strange noise , like an interference, like when it crash, so that was weird ! , I tried to find what was going on but there is nothing making interference , now I am wondering what does that means ? My speaker set is damaged ? can this be the cause of the weird crash ?

Now it is stable again for about 2 days.... but you know , this can fall anytime.
What I am having every day , and thi sis becoming common now , is that windows doesn't boot on first power-on , it get stuck on the windows loading bar. After a restart I get the message that widnows were unable to start due to a recent hardware change
So again , I am getting that message , on every day, on every first power-on.
What does that means ?

PS: I was getting the same message with windows 7

after 10 days stable ,the PC just crashed . Same old way , so , only thing left to change is CPU and motherboard.
dang , now it crash less , but still , it's annoying.
**EDIT**
What I did so far:
-Changed HDD (installed a brand new HDD, same issue)
-Changed RAM (have 6 ram modules , it was tested before with the Corsair modules but still same issue with OCZ too)
-Changed OS from windows 7 64 (crashes were more frequent) to Vista 64 but still the PC is crashing.
-GPU was tested on other PC for 4 days without issues or crashes
-PSU was tested on other PC for 4 days without issues or crashes
What I need to change:
-Motherboard (didn't change it yet)
-CPU (didn't change it yet)
So far , the issue seems to be on the CPU or Motherboard, I will change them both to see if the issue persist.
dang , now it crash less , but still , it's annoying.

Hello , just found this errors on the event logs
1- IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 0, function 0. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.
2- Machine Check Event reported is a fatal Bus or Interconnect timeout error. (this is another error , not together with the previous one)
The IRQARB: ACPI BIOS I have a lot ! what does that means ?
Thank you

I don't play guild wars, but I came across this thread while trying to troubleshoot my own computer problem.
I seem to have the exact same issue as you malevolence.
Memtest and Prime95 run fine but the first time I start my computer from a cold boot it will hang and will only get to windows once I reboot.
I'll also get BSoD right away on login or when I'm shutting the computer down. I've tested many different components, coming no closer to preventing the problems.
System Specs:
AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE (C3 Stepping)
G.Skill DDR1600 2 x 2GB 8-8-8-24
Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P
ATI HD 4890 1GB
Corsair HX650 Watt
Asus Xonar DS (sound card)
Drivers are the most up to date for all components.
Here's a couple of some of the BSoD errors:
Bad Pool Caller
Paged Error in Nonpaged Area

Have you guys checked into updating(flashing) the BIOS???

I did update the BIOS and after some more testing I've determined it to be one of the following things through process of elimination:
RAM (tried various timings, even ones suggested by the manufacturer)
PSU (I don't have an extra one to swap in to test)
Driver Conflict or unstable driver
Windows Update
Just today I encountered two more BSoD, only after having it turned off all night. Now it is behaving normally, seems like the system has to get 'warmed up'
