Kaspersky. Guild Wars. Keylogger?

Hi all. I'm new here so I don't really know if I have posted this in the right section.

I recently installed Guild Wars for the first time using Windows 7.

Upon completely installing the game and opening the game client, Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 pops up informing me that the client has been detected as a PDM.Keylogger.

Not sure what is going on here. I have attached a screenshot and highlighted the report instances that are in question.

How someone can help me with this.

Step 1: Uninstall crapspersky

Step 2: Install AviraAntivir

Same goes with any antivirus and GW. Go to your AV settings, find your "Exclusions" tab or option, set 3 things to be excluded (Overkill is a good kill!)

1. The entire GW folder.
2. GW.dat
3. GW.exe

Because the GW client constantly writes to the dat file, most good AV programs mistake it for viral activity, however, this is quite well documented in several places, this forum has a note on it somewhere, as does the official GW site.

Turbo.

I agree with Vamp08. However if you really want to have a second rate AV application follow Turbo's steps two and three. I would never exclude an entire folder, ever, only specific files.

Don't listen to vamp, Kaspersky is one of the best antivirus programs out there somewhere in the same group as BitDefender, Norton and Eset. Avira is almost a no name.
Also, that doesn't mean GW is a keylogger :|

The fact that you include "Norton" in there and claim that Avira is a no name is evidence enough that you're not one that someone should listen to on this subject.

Disclaimer: I personally prefer Avast! to AntiVir, but that's largely because the latter kept screwing up my Vanqs by popping up the damn nag screen.

kapersky is better than some, but def. not one of the best. I use avast and have had zero trouble with it since i started going on 3 yrs ago now.... if you want to pay for it then kapersky isa better way to go than either Norton or McAfee that's for sure.

Symantec was actually the best product of 2009, followed by Kaspersky.

ive used Avira for over a year and have not had one virus on my pc.

Symantic = Norton.

Norton can win as many awards as they like: They have a hell of a long way to go before they ever earn my trust again.

I've had Avira Security Suite for over 2 years now; and except for a popup during GW updates asking for permission to proceed I have never encountered any problems whatsoever. I have never had a single virus infection....and even browsing "dangerous internet content" goes without a hindge. It blocks all infected sites without ever missing a beat. Avira is also praised for its daily updates; and for its limited use of memory.
Norton & McAfee only gave me headaches and disapointments. Kaparsky is ok but I prefer Avira.

Praise your favorite antivirus as much as you want, but can somebody actually answer to actually why Kaspersky gave that ridiculous warning? Are really .dat files so misleading?

it's common for av software to block or restrict a program that is constantly accessing the internet and frequently downloads content. Kapersky is not alone in this and it's a simple matter of adding the gw.dat and perhaps the gw.exe to the exceptions list in your av software. You may think it ridiculous, but it's actually very normal for it to do that.

Kaspersky always tags most games as keylogger as the game does map the keys/binds into the game dll's and so on, nothing to worry about though.

Elder III gave you the answer you were looking for. It is possible that Kaspersky was updated which changed something it was looking for and thus you got a pop-up you never saw before. I remember once that Avast!, just after an update detected a part of my usb keyboard driver as a virus and automaticly disabled it.
As for praising anti-virus software, that is gonna happen any time a question like yours is posted to almost any forum. Kaspersky has a history of not knowing what a game is when you play it, unlike a lot of other anti-virus software out there. It also has a history of having a back door, not sure if that was fixed yet.
In the end, if you like the interface, the cost and it does well at keeping viruses off your system (hopefully you don't have to clean up the mess a virus can make) then that is the anti-virus software for you.
Exempt gw.exe and gw.dat and your problem should go and stay away.

Uhm, i have windows 7 and Kaspersky 2010, never had that with GW's myself.

Kaspersky was a gift, but think I'm gonna go back to using Avira & Online Armour, theres something about Kaspersky I don't like which I can't put my finger on

Kaspersky is pretty good...I don't know why you guys are even talkin about norton here tho...
