Ever seen an "Accursed Staff" linked to Death Magic?
LicensedLuny
In 4+ years of playing, I've seen a lot of "Accursed Staffs" drop all over GW. They've always been linked to Curses.
I noticed on the official wiki today that someone added Death Magic as a possible attribute, too, in July 2007.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Accursed_Staff
The page has been through many edits since, but that Death Magic possibility has stayed put.
So, has anyone here seen an "Accursed Staff" with a Death Magic requirement? Would anyone be willing to meet me in game and show me one? I'm certainly open to the possibility of it existing; I've simply never heard of it, and I do spend a fair (ok, a shameful) amount of time looking at drops and trade threads, etc.
I tried to look through the lists for Collectors and Weaponsmiths to see if they offered such a thing. I didn't see any such case, though.
The GuildWiki page about Accursed Staffs says only Curses.
Thanks in advance!

This is the contributions list of the person who added that edit (along with the misinformation that it did cold damage) http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Speci...ions/Quipaaron
I'd say all signs point to "no".

Thanks for all the replies!
Wheee! Sounds like a good plan!
Are you positive these were named "Accursed Staff" with a requirement of Death Magic, not Curses? I just want to be extra sure, as you're the only one who says you've actually seen such a staff. Please don't take offense - it's not intended at all!
And yeah, I suppose it could be one of those things that used to drop but doesn't anymore.
Yeah, I looked at that guy. He hasn't been back around wiki since, but he did a lot of editing that July. The same day he put Death Magic up for Accursed Staffs, he was also editing the White Mantle Ritualist page. That's another reason I was reluctant to just chalk it up to someone's mistake.
I saw you edited the wiki entry to take the Death Magic possibility out. Seeing how this is one of those cases where if it really exists, it's probably extremely rare and/or no longer drops, I can live with that.
But I'm tempted to go harass some White Mantle and see what they drop anyway now.

Heh, yeah - go and "dismantle" some!
That's the problem with wikis, though. Sometimes a minor edit like that goes through and nobody notices at the time, so it never gets questioned. If a DM att staff does drop, just pop back there and re-edit, leaving a note in explanation. If only all editors did that...
Oh, by the way - I'm assuming that you haven't seen one that does Cold damage?

No, no cold damage. In general, it's always seemed to me like the Necro-attribute staffs and wands which do cold damage are only ever linked to Death Magic. All the Curses req. gear I've seen is dark damage, with the exception of one weird green staff.
EDIT - re Olim Chill below
I've never heard of a Wailing Wand linked to Curses before. I thought they were all req. Death Magic.
Oh well, it's getting off on a tangent anyway.

Wailing Wand is an example of a Curses req. weapon that does cold damage.
OP - I've never seen an Accursed Staff with a Death Magic req. - one never knows. |
