Away from game

I remember starting a forum for something related to guild wars years ago, but I can't where I went to do it :/ Where can someone without any experience in the matter start up a forum and host it for his guild? I'm not looking for anything special.

You can google "guild forum hosting" and you will get some sources. The free ones tend to have very slow servers and very poor service.

Check out the guilds looking for members in Guild Connections and see who is hosting their websites.

I went with a paid hosting, I think it was about $85 for the year from a company with good reviews. And I got the web design and logos from guru members in exchange for in-game gold. Now if I could just get my guild to use it.

Edit: I went with the domain-name purchase and the paid hosting to set things up with GW2 in mind. Hopefully, guilds will be active for the first year.

I've always sort of like Guild Portal, which is a nice site, and you can customize it a lot, but I don't like that if you are using a free subscription, your web address will have a lot of numbers, such as www.guildportal.com/838295983875, which doesn't really encourage members to use the website. As Darcy said, googling should get you some pretty good results. Also, you could probably check out the user guild pages on the official wiki, as most of them have links to their forums/websites. From there, you could get an idea of what some of the top guilds are using, and you can see some different ones and decide which you like best.

This is exactly why I wouldn't pay for a host...not at first at least... Later, if site use becomes common and speed and reliability become an issue then you can upgrade to a paid site...

on a side not...http://www.guildlaunch.com/ has server me well...seems to be faster then many of the other free hosting I've seen out there and the downtime was fairly limited....

edit 1:Example : http://perfectcult.guildlaunch.com/ note I am no longer in this guild and no longer associated with said guild and I am in no way advertising or endorsing this guild.... It is strictly here as an example Thank you...

I Googled for free ones and after trying out several made one at http://www.forumotion.com mainly because there's lots of templates to choose from and I found it easy to customise it. As Pony said, you do tend to get ugly looking web address's with the free ones so a quick google for free domain names gave me http://www.freedomain.co.nr/ . All you have to do is have a little link to their website on your home page.

I'm not trying to advertise the guild, just showing you what you can achieve. This is the address I had at first http://warden-guild.roflforum.net/ and then after setting up the free domain http://warden-guild.co.nr/ .

I didn't have any experience myself when I did this so dont be afraid to experiment and if it all goes wrong you can just delete it and start again and remember, Googles your friend
