My problem is that if I set AA to any setting in CCC it negates all settings in Guild Wars. I don't have this trouble in any other game. Now the settings will take hold if I alt-tab after every time I zone. I don't have this issue if I set the game setting to 4x and set CCC to use game settings.
I also have oddball flickering at my loading screens.
One thing that may be part of the issue could be that I'm running from an install I did while using Windows XP.
So, any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I've had this issue with every ATI Win7 system I've played on. I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with your system. Seems like D3D is somehow being refreshed/reinitialized every zone change, which causes the flicker and kills your panel settings. Would love to know a workaround, none of the driver updates have touched it.

ATi drivers sucks. CCC sucks. This is the only, unfortunate as it may be, answer. You are stuck. I have the same issue, so I set everything to application controlled.

I had this issue with nvidia & xp so I moved to ATI...ATI works great in XP...so gonna try Vista SP2 & XP SP2 compat mode to see if either work for me. If one does I'll post here with the infos.

Hi guys,
I just upgraded to a ATI Radeon 5870 and for some reason AA doen't want to work with this game. You habe it ok on the login screen, all nice and jaggie free but in game it is disabled dispit it saying 4xAA in the graphics menu.
I have tryed to force it with ATI Tray tools and still no luck
Any ideas anyone as I want my AA back in GW. I knew moving away from nvidia was going to bite me!

i have a 5850 and AA works fine, but only if i set it in game. forcing it in CCC or ATT won't work.
however, other AA modes like adaptive AA, SSAA, and edge detect AA all work from CCC. so if i really want higher AA than 4x, i just turn on edge detect in ATT and get 12xAA.

Thanks Moriz I disabled AA in CCC (application controlled) and my AA is back in guild wars. Phew all good now

Ya that's been my issue. I can use the in game setting but if AA is turned on via CCC the to end up conflicting. Other games I play do not have this issue, only GW.

Question - does this issue effect Anisotropic Filtering (AF) as well? or just AA?
I know as a lot/most/all? games allow you to use both AA and AF at the same time. Don't know if GW's has AF in-built or not..
So, if it does or doesn't, are you able to force AF through CCC? Or is that also effected by this issue.. or if not, can you force AF through CCC but use in-game settings for AA? Or if you use CCC for 1.. it has to be used for the other?

My current settings:
AA - use app settings
AF - 16x
Mipmap - Highest Quality
Vert Sync - Off unless specified
Adaptive AA - Off (I've noticed this one causes major issues in other games)
Triple Buffering - Off
My laptop has the following settings, but in WinXP & 1150 ati chipset:
AA - 2x (4x in game)
AF - 2x
Mipmap - Highest Quality
Vert Sync - Off
Triple Buffering - Off
The game looks great on the laptop with no flickering or loss of AA settings when I zone.
