War in Kryta - this is just the beginning!
Rocky Raccoon
I was thinking the same thing. The release over the next few months hopefully leads to a GW2 release late this year or early next year. One can only hope.
Martin Kerstein
Just to clarify this: Guild Wars Beyond is not a campaign in the sense of a new chapter, it is an ongoing thing.
Ravious
Okay, thanks for the clarification. I just figured it was a bunch of small chapters released over the year like the War in Kryta that when put all together fell under something called Guild Wars Beyond.
Martin Kerstein
Well - in a way that is how it will be, but I just want to make sure that everybody understands that we are not talking of a campaign like "Factions" or "Nightfall".
Snograt
Heh, ingrates.

People need to appreciate the work that the team and A-net does for you. I have enjoyed all the costumes cause it's there for enjoyment not specifically for In game advancement. It helps fund the Team. 10 is not a lot for a game you all say you love. if you don't like it go pay 15 a month on wow even when you only get to play 10 hours a month cause work is hectic or whatever. Keep up the good work Lindsey and Team.

For years the white mantle sacrificed the chosen. This may be seen as evil but we also know that those sacrifices powered the soul batteries to keep the Door of Komalie shut. (SEE: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Door_of_Komalie)
What would have happened if there was no sacrifices to power those soul batteries? Tyria as we know it would be dead. The ends by far justifies the means. The White Mantle followed false gods. But those 'gods' were saving the world. I assume the Mursaat care about nothing but them selves. They are creatures of great power and have a common purpose with the other races... they do not want to die. The reason I made this rant was because I think that people forget that while the White Mantle was saving the world... The shining blade was helping a lich. |
B) When the SB (+ our characters) realized their mistake, they took down the Lich and the Titans. Contrast that with the WM; the WM leadership knows full well that they were living a lie and serving monsters, and they made no effort to change that.
C) The WM don't have the excuse that they're sacrificing people for the greater good anymore. We don't know if the sacrifices are still going on (though there's no real reason to assume that they aren't), but the brutal theocracy is still very real, and unjustified. Actually, the theocracy was never justified, even by the "greater good" thing.
D) By all indications (ie, how fast they got owned when the Titans were let out), the Mursaat didn't give a damn about saving Tyria, only in protecting themselves from the Titans.
E) They're not gods. The 5 true gods may not be the most omnipresent of beings, but at least they're actually gods, and they do help humanity in various ways. There's that whole "created the world" thing, too.

Many on these forums like to complain that there isn't something new added every week, but when you think about it, a fair amount has been added or changed in the last year for a 4-5 year old game.
I'm sure there are plenty of others who also appreciate the updates made to the game.

Who cares about boring cosmetics? Where's the new weapons and offhands from these new bosses?
GW2 is still 2 years away so best just settle in for more boring GW1 until April of 2012. )

Ugh, I like GW, which is why I post. This is just a little too far for me, though. It's hard to get excited about an event in a game whose number will soon be up.
I find this effort laughable after the neglect GW has gotten since 2007. It seems more like setting the stage for a round-up of oblivious GW players for the inevitable switch to GW2, which will ironically make the purchase (or lack thereof) of these costumes moot. *shakes head* |
Do Anet really care about getting people to play again? No. They're focusing on Guild Wars 2. Which is fair enough because we paid a one-time fee for a game with limited content. But I still don't want to play again. And the danger is that I really won't care enough to play Guild Wars 2 when it eventually comes out.
Tanith
I'm impressed by the scale of this little promotion...of course it's a promotion, to revive fan interest in an old game. Is it working? Yes. To what degree I don't know...only Anet would be able to answer that...but a lot of us are rediscovering GW and loving every minute of it.
Personally my wish is to learn more of the Mursaat, they've always been fascinating to me. I'd like to know where they really came from, what their purposes were in Tyria, and whether they truly were wiped out by the Titans. I've seen no indication thus far in the campaign that this will be touched on at all, but I'm hopeful.

If you can't be interested in a game you shouldn't be on the forum just so you can be negative,
Sword Hammer Axe
I suspect this kind of quests:
"Defend dakutu - Defend Dakutu Village from attacking Mantles"
"Ebon Reinforcements - Help Gwen and the other Ebon Vanguard reinforcements, get to the Shining Blades encampment"
"Infiltration - Find out about the Mantles' defensive strategies"
"Assault - ATTACK THE MANTLE!!" XD

no one's sure if there will be any quests, tbh. we may just get lore-heavy updates. what is also great <3

What... CONTENT?! *faints*
*brushes self off*
Wow. This is cool (even the costumes - I've gotten to the point where I figure, heck, if other people buying this overpriced stuff gets me content updates, that's nice). I like the whole lead-in thing, and I'm always fond of more lore.
If I can drag myself away from my Sha'tari Skyguard dailies and my mad dash for level 75 I might actually get back into GW to check this stuff out. Should prove amusing, at least until Blizz starts with the Operation: Gnomeregan and the Echo Isles reclamation stuff.

I think if ArenaNet could go back in time and you told them that GW2 wouldn't be released until 2011 that they would have had another full expansion like EOTN. I really don't think they imagined it taking this long to do. I love GW and play every day, but I am getting to the point that there is nothing to do anymore in-game.
IF GW2 comes out AFTER The Old Republic, idk if I will actually buy GW2 if ToR is really a superb game. There was just too big a gap in between products and, in the end, it will hurt GW2 because it may happen again.

Hiya. I'm just writing to let you know that Linsey Murdock, our Live Team lead, is currently sick and will be out of action for a little while as she gets better. This means that we’ll have to roll out certain parts of our War in Kryta updates later than we had originally planned. This is unfortunate, but as we’ve said in the past, game development is a dynamic process and we’re just going to have to adapt to circumstances. We’re all wishing Linsey a speedy recovery!

Birthday Redux then or extend birthday until content is released? Please

I thought it was odd that there was no content update to coincide with the birthday update, not even a small development in the plot. I just hope they don't decide to wait a whole week before bringing out the next part, I've been anxious to participate in something new.
For the moment, finishing Prophecy, EotN and the relevant Shining Blade/White Mantle quests again has caught me up on the different plot points/indicators. It's surprising how well the War in Kryta plot fits in with quests which were written over 5 years ago (Hot Spring Murders and The Lost Princess - this one is less surprising).
As far as the costumes coming out before content and there being no lead up, that's just wrong. The Shining Blade camp was there and there are scenes you can see between different members. Also try vanquishing any of the areas in Kryta, it's a lot harder than before due to so many Peace Keepers spawning all over the place, usually large groups in the out of the way "hidden" places, which ads a lot of flavour to the Peace Keeper story.
People who say the White Mantle costume was pointless, that's bizarre, how important was the Dawyna/Grenth one? I personally enjoy the White Mantle costume and I've very glad I got to use the Shining Blade costume now, instead of after playing through any of the new content. This event, to me, seems more like a continuation of plot threads that existed since the game's release, so the lead up was always there.

By the way, I hope you guys realize how much of an opportunity you're missing. By not releasing the content update/skill update until later, you'll be seeing hundreds (or even thousands) of GW players who just re-installed during the update to check minis/content and then because of the lack of content, quickly uninstalled again. You could have encouraged a lot of people to begin playing again, and with GW2 so far away, that would have been smart.
Just saying.

Been a year since the last significant update. they had promised further updates every quarter and later backpedaled.
Since then, there's been few skill balances and wheeling out the same old events. I would have guessed they would have at least made an effort to provide something around the anniversary.

I understand that the live team doesn't have "enough resources" and whatnot. All I ask of the staff is that you don't make promises you can't keep. I'm fine with little to no content updates - just please don't build the war in kryta thing up to be something big while in reality it only ends up being a small quest chain.

I guess I should be shocked at some of the self serving comments but sadly I'm not. Someone is sick from within a limited group and all some can do is complain.
I hope she is well soon and I'm looking forward to the progression of the War in Kryta.

I hope Linsey recovers soon. And to the people , she is the lead designer , and she is sick (we have no clue what sickness) , it would be horrible to release the content without her presence , considering she hard-worked for it.
Company's Management issues can happen even in the best companies of the world , I work for a "big" company and I know what I am talking about, and don't forget that the economy is really bad at the moment, we are still lucky that there is still development for gw2 and gw1 server support.

Taken from the GW2 facebook page; "As you might have guessed by some of the posts we've been making here, the torture is about to end. :-) Some of you are on the edge of your seats. Many of you know that the anniversary of the original Guild Wars is coming up. We have a few things up our collective sleeves that we’re going to talk about this week. We want as many people to know about it as possible. We’re doing our part with our PR and marketing teams, but we need your help in spreading the word! If you like the stuff you see this week, vote it up on Digg! (If you don’t have a Digg account, you can use your Facebook account to Digg stuff up.) We're super excited at how engaged many of you have been through the Guild Wars War in Kryta viral campaign, and we hope you'll like what we've got cooking for Guild Wars 2 (soon (TM)). :-)" |

I believe they said on another site that it is her back that is not feeling well.
Yes it can be hard to implement things with your lead gone.
Yes they should have a few others working on gw since it is online now, gw2 is not, yes it might push it back farther---but I think they are also pushing away people who might have bought gw2 with the sloppy handling of the current game updates and such.
Yes they are missing a big opportunity with many people logging on for just this event.
and yes I would like to see some new stuff besides costumes and hype about gw2, but c'est la vie.
