Allow costumes to be worn in small and casual PVP arenas?
TsunamiZ
How about allow costumes to be worn in small and casual PVP arenas [such as random arenas]? This would allow more people to have fun with costumes and will likely increase costumes sales, too!
Masta Panda
Bad idea is bad. Because a lot of people visually distinguish characters instead of the name bar.
Terrible Surgeon
no way would i support this idea.
4 chars running around in CA or RA all wearing grenth costumes would be funny but i and others distinguish the movement of opponents like sins and monks by armor/appearance while targeting another person. I know similar ideas like this have been mentioned before in other threads/ The most recent i can think of was the festival hats being used in pvp.

What you consider casual may be considered serious business to others. Costumes don't belong in PvP.
Ben-A-BoO
Horrible idea from a game-play perspective.
Myotheraccount
Look a Warrior running at me!!! Oh wait it's a Monk...No it's a Sin. WTF

Eragon Zarroc
would be difficult to allow it in one pvp area and not the others. the rules are kinda blanketed out across the pvp arenas.
N1ghtstalker
with those costumes u can't distinguish a warrior from a monk

After the very first reply pretty much everyone else knew what they were gonna say.... also you press "Tab" to see the prof.

Simple solution to that; make an option to have characters' classes show over their heads all the time like a nameplate, W/R etc.
The functionality already exists, it happens inside outposts.
I would really just like anything that let me use a costume on my character 24/7.
I happen to love both PvP and not having my Assassin look like a hardcore masochistic crack-head in a gimp-suit.
Besides, female characters at least are completely capable of being made to look like a class other than their own, because their physiques and stances are all so similar.
Monk in brown Labrynthine to look like a Ritualist, Monk in white Elite Kurzick to look like an Elementalist, a Paragon in Elonian almost automatically looks like an Elementalist, Ranger in gray Primeval to look like a Warrior, Ritualist in white Canthan to look like a Monk.
Even without that, you can't tell immediately if a Monk/Ritualist is a healer or damager, if a Warrior is planning to pin you down and take your hits to distract you or just plow over you with offense, if a Mesmer is planning to shut you down or destroy you etc, made even more complicated by secondary classes which cannot be determined by appearance anyway, and it's pretty difficult to make out someone's outfit in detail from a distance.
Personally, I pay more attention to the character's skill use and nameplate than their outfit, and they would still have unique animations and vaguely different physiques while in costumes.
"Oh, that person is making a B-line to me with a sword and shield, probably a tough Warrior"
"That person is standing far off throwing fireballs, probably an Elementalist"
"That person is hiding in the back healing people. I don't know, some kind of healer maybe?"
"That hunched over person just poofed behind me before I got a good look and started ripping me apart with daggers, maybe it's an Assassin"
Can't tell if that person chasing you down with a giant hammer is a warrior who won't be scratched by physical attacks or some retarded Mo/W? ....Click on them?
Now let me summarize; only an idiot bases their actions purely on the primary class of the people they're fighting. Would you still rush over to immediately take out the Monk before anyone else if the Monk was running Offense and there was a Ritualist there healing? Would you just ignore the healer completely if it was an E/Mo? "Pff, that idiot Elementalist isn't even attacking people, screw him".

i would go for this. For those that say...OMG i HAVE to see what movements they make...Umm....try taking the challenge...I think it would be pretty cool actually. And no i don't pvp except the usual AB, JQ....but still think it would be cool....Try a little of the unexpected and unknown. Like I said take the challenge.

As was mentioned in the other thread, allowing costume headpieces wouldn't do any harm, people already run around in the stupid eotn masks. Body costumes are another story.
FengShuiDove
No, for the same reason M.O.X. wasn't allowed in PvP ever: distracting. In PvE, careful positioning, while still important, isn't half of the entire match. In PvP, slight differences in positioning can throw you off big time. And how distracting is it to have a dude in a big white hat gallivanting about when you're trying to click on your teammate to Infuse them?

I say go for it. Allow them everywhere.

headpieces yay
body suits nay

This. Full body costumes that look the same on every single player can get confusing in competitive PvP situations. Headgears less so.
GWfan#1
Gives an unfair advantage in pvp imo for reasons stated above.

As much of a PvE player as I am more so then PvP, even when I do play PvP... I would NOT like to see people in casual costumes running around, it would be a bit harder to distinguish the character. Festival hats aren't even allowed, so..I say no to costumes as well.

No thanx, making everyone identical will screw up play in any arena.
Rikimaru
I have an idea; they could allow the costumes to show Client-side-only in PvP areas.
Meaning, only the person wearing the costume can see the costume.
Meaning, only the person wearing the costume can see the costume.
MithranArkanere
There is ONLY one kind of PvP area in which I would allow costumes.
Dragon Arena.
Why? Because profesion doesn't matter in there. Everyone is the same.
Anywhere else, either profession matters (Snowball arena, all normal PvP areas) or the model is already altered (Costume Brawling, Rollerbeetle racing)
So, for the Dragon Arena, YES.
For the rest of festival events where the model is no changed, ONLY THE HAT.
And for the rest of PvP, NO COSTUME PART AT ALL.

wtf you target people and look at their mo/me /e/me or whatever. The red bar tells you more than armour WTF !!!
Kosar The Cruel
Would be confusing as hell.

i sort of agree with this no excuse that costume make it confusing unless you pay attention at armor more then the bar that tells you if their a war or w/e profession their playing i myself wouldn't mind having costumes in arenas but it's all down if Anet wants costumes be seen in pvp so i cant really choose sides saying no or yes for costumes
Rikimaru
Well, another problem with this is that capes can't be displayed alongside costumes, and capes are used to easily display which team you're on.
With my other idea though, it doesn't matter if you see your own cape; you know which team you're on.

MithranArkanere
People see more at the radar than at the cape.

Just because you are bad, it doesn't mean everyone else is.

A team has a war and a sin and mesmer. If I can tell the difference between them I can gaurdian the target the war is running at and draw the cripple from the sin lead attack while clicked on the mesmer watching for diversion.

You know, there are players like me who like to LOOK at the player and tell what's going on on the match instead of TAB TAB TAB like YOU (assumingly coming from your idea)
