I don't see this posted anywhere yet (sorry if it was):

Last year there were a couple of speculation threads pointing out possible evidence that J. Robert Scott would be the writer of the second Guild Wars novel (with a very likely title Dragonrise).

I have now found further evidence to support this:
The second Guild Wars novel is now up on the Canadian Amazon site. There is no title yet ("Untitled"), but the author is indeed J. Robert Scott, and the picture accompanying this novel says "Untitled Guild Wars". Further information:

Mass Market Paperback: 352 pages
Publisher: Pocket Star (Dec 28 2010)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1416589600
ISBN-13: 978-1416589600

The release date in December 2010 is probably just a placeholder until actual information is released), but the interesting new thing IMHO is that we now have ISBN data... although a search on these ISBN numbers doesn't return anything interesting yet (other than more sites with the same information).

Didn't they announce three books?

Yes, but no information is available on the third one yet. The third book may not be released before 2011...

Wow completely missed those threads about the 2nd book. Thanks for posting. Here's some speculation.

Summer 2010 - Ghosts of Ascalon
December 2010 - Dragonrise
Early 2011 - Third Book
April 25th 2011 - GW2

Hopefully

Because Amazon.com is totally the knower of all things when it comes to release dates of any GW products, right?

Well, damkel's assumption is not unreasonable, and as I stated in my first post, if you search on the ISBN number you will find other sites with the same information... including the official publisher Simon & Schuster (as Pocket Books is a division of Simon & Schuster). They give the same estimated date (placeholder?): December 2010

Remember the first placeholders for the first book?

And the book2 - December 2010, book3 - Early 2011 that's just like releasing two books at one month distance or so, which will never happen.

Probably more realistically would be:
Late 2010/Early 2011 second book
Mid/Late 2011 third book
Apr 2012 - GW2

That is if the first book doesn't get even more pushed back from summer to late 2010/early 2011. Which is imo a very plausible scenario (given their history).

They have to release GW2 in 2011. Letting Bioware (SW:tOR) and Blizzard (D3) both beat them to market would be suicide.

GW2 is not charging a subscription aka a game you have to sell your soul to. People can easily buy GW2 and D3, get bored of one and pick up the other, while maintaining a SW subscription; that's the majority of customers actually, and is the main advantage of going the non-subscription route.

Releasing close to each other would be a bad idea, but showing up sufficiently before or after is fine. In fact after might be better.

Not wanting to turn this into another 'release date' thread, here is just a quick quote from the official GW wiki for the benefit of those people who haven't been keeping up to date.

Quote:
Information released in the 4th Quarter 2009 NCSoft Report states that the "current development target for Guild Wars 2 is for the end of 2010 with the full commercial release" taking place in 2011. Information gleaned from 3rd Quarter 2009 NCSoft Report specifically states that GW2 will likely have a public event in the form of a closed beta in 2010 with current projected release date in 2011.
