Hi,
I'm having an issue where trees/rocks/etc will vanish and re-appear in-game.
What happens is I'll move towards where I know a "tree" or "rock" or such is, and it will just appear on the screen... and say if there are multiple trees/rocks/etc there, they might all pop up.. or 1 will and then if I move a bit closer the other's will appear.
I'm not sure I'm describing this very well.. I have nothing to take video's to show.. I'll try and grab some screenshots. (see below)
I've had this problem with 3 different video cards, on 2 different systems.. so I'm sure it's not video card drivers, manufacturer or computer.. (unless it's the cpu manufacturer..)
Current System:
AMD Phenom II 965
ATI Radeon HD5870 (Sapphire Vapor-X OC'ed)
4 GB G-Skill ram
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
I've had same issue on old system:
AMD X2 3600+
2 GB no-name ram
Windows XP Home
nVidia 7600GT / nVidia 7950GT (Gigabyte / XFX)
Really not sure why it's doing this I have not adjusted CCC settings at all.. so they are still on default, and as you can see.. had the same thing with various nVidia cards and driver version's as well.. My computer is not OC'ed atm either, and neither was old computer.
In game settings are 4x AA, max/best filtering.. tried with and without V.sync enabled, resolution is 1920&1088, post processing is on.. hmm, here's a screenie of my in-game settings..
Here's some screenshots...
Pic #1 - No flower displaying, pic #2 has a flower.. and notice how the fence gets sharper and more detailed in 2nd pic as well..
Next series demonstrates the problem a lot more. Take a look at how the tree appears, disappears, re-appears and then the other tree's appear finally..
This is bizarre.. Initially when this was happening on my old comp I just thought it was cuz my comp was a POS comp that was struggling.. but my current comp is sooo much better than my old comp and can do things sooo much better... and yet it's experiencing exactly the same issue ;/

Are you able to set a default refresh rate, i wouldnt let the game control that,
I found i had better video quality ingame after i disabled,
Enable Post-Process effects,
It removed ALOT of the over bright gamma too, that ironically the gamma setting could not control.

This could just be the game engine and nothing to worry about.
Drawing an entire map at once would slow down your FPS and computer, so game engines will only draw and render up to a certain distance away from you, as you get closer to an object it will be rendered in higher and higher detail and vice versa, the further away you get from it, the detail lessens before it is "Clipped" and not drawn at all.

I'm having problems viewing the images atm, but it looks as though you are referring to distant objects, not nearby objects. In that case, it's basically what some-_1 said above.

it looks normal to me - based on your screen shots it appears just as it does on my system. GW is an old game and never was terribly demanding graphically in the first place; one of the ways they do that is by not having things "pop" in to your view until you are closer to them, generally speaking you have to run a few steps before that tree on your horizon fully pops into place and the surrounding terrain near it becomes more detailed. I do think that it is more noticeable at higher resolutions too. I have a 1920x1080 monitor and it's the same for me, my other monitor is 1366x768 and I do not notice this effect nearly as much on that screen, nor is it as noticeable on my laptop @ 1440x900.

like elder said they dont come into view till ur close by(helps reduce stress on your system and servers). So, i wouldnt be worried about it( also i looked @ the pics.. they look the same as my comp so idk.. looks normal to me.)

I can max the game out on my comp setup -- and it does the same as yours. I think it's just a memory/processing effect to help cut down on the resources to load the zone.

Cheers all I suspected it was likely to be the game engine in the end, but I thought I'd post just in-case there was some setting or tweak I hadn't seen or known about that might be able to do something about it.. or maybe my client was corrupt, going bad, etc. Glad to know it's just the game afterall

Same thing happens to me. FYI ^^
