While browsing the mesmer thread in riverside, that post gave me an idea.

This is a mesmer concept starting from the begining, the skills not being the current ones. They'd change to accomodate the new attributes.

Many tweaks brings the class closer to necro/ monk jobs, so they might keep the interupt and e-denial background theme (main theme for interupt) as well as the non-spammable playstyle mesmer have. They would basically be closer to the jack-of-all-trade bard, with more party support, the same subtelity they have now. As opposed to the highly specialized class we have now.

Inpiration as a self-support line like we have it now. Having e-management, self-protection and interupt counter-measure. Gaining party energy management, skills like channeling and Energy Drain would also give energy to the party (the number scalling with fast casting. +2 people per 3 points in FC?). Blood-Ritual-like single target e-management might fit too.

Illusion would keep degen, but would get more ally support in the style of the Visages. Some exemple I have : Illusion of speed being ally-targettable (tweaking the cripple part maybe? before we start griefing), chances to evade (similar to guardian), "slows down anyone attacking"-veil of thorn-like, and mark-of-fury-like hexes.

Finally, Domination would stay close to the current form. Keeping empathy-like punishment and dirrect damage (e-burn, power spike...). As well as keeping the best interupts/Lock-down. If there is one line A-Net didn't screw up, it's probably that one.

Seeing how far in the game life we are, this is more fantasizing, so this might have worked if it had been there from the begining. A lot of that is based from a casual PvE-er point of view, I know that wouldn't make them on the same term as the current monk/ele/sin/necro. Nor does that take into account PvP. Comments?

I personally don't use domination at all myself and I don't see how keeping illusion degen based is going to help mesmers at all in PvE.

Well part of what I tought was that illu would keep degen, since I kinda like the look of that mecanic (so it's kept more as an aesthetic effect than for the usefulness) but shift the focus to a party suppot line.

What is it now? the main focus is basically degen and... is there really anything else? Ineptitude-like damage is a really major theme, the rest is mostly dissabling and support in the form of slower-casting and melee shutdown (adren mostly). Not all that useful (PvE speaking) and form what I heard, not a lot more useful in PvP.

Out of curiosity, a mesmer primary who says he doesn't use Dom at all? hat kind of build do you use? Ineptitude/WE spam or AP/PvE spam? Or something more interesting? That last part is pure curiosity on my part, I don't mean it as an attack.

Inspiration would make more sense for party "inspiration" and illusion always seemed more of a proactive attribute outside its fun oddball skills.

A good dom mesmer is great in pvp, it will help with getting quick kills for the team when you shutdown a monk. For pve i think a good change would be like your suggestion for inspiration and maybe a few changes in illusion but nothing drastict. I would like to see a change to hex eater vortex or other hex removal skills so it could be useable again in pvp. Something like remove all hexs on target and target ally gets a small speed boost or nearest foe gets a small speed reduction. Just something to help counter hex spam builds would be nice i think in pvp. Pve i know is all about dmg or party support but since i dont play alot of pve i dont think i can coment on it much.
