Returning to Guild Wars is harder than I hoped
Scavis
Hey guys, I had played Guild Wars from release and I stopped playing around 2008 as I had done pretty much everything I wanted too, however I have not done much of Eye of the north and I heard about this new War in Kryta business so I decided I would re-download the game and start fresh, and I must say I'm glad the forums are still active!
Now to my question, I've been trying to reset my password via the in-game clients "Reset password" button, I've pressed it and put in my old username(email) quite a few times now however I have still not received any notification in my inbox. So my question is, Has anyone else done this recently and if so, how long did it take for your password to be reset?

Unfortunately when contacting support via the "Ask a question" tab they require my boxed access keys Having moved houses quite a few times in the past 5 years things tend to get lost or thrown out that I need, so I no longer have any keys for my account which leads me to rely on the reset password button :/ But thanks for the reply

You can't reset your password via the pw reset function if your account is linked to a PlayNC account.. which most are. You will instead have to go through support which require you to have your original access keys.
If you don't have them sometimes they make exceptions if you can remember other details, such as the last 4 digits of a credit card used to purchase something through the in game store. Most likely if you don't have this information nor the access keys or access to the play NC account yours is linked to you're screwed and will need to buy a new account

It can also help if you can remember one of your character names.

I can remember more then one so that shouldn't be a problem.

Did you notice the new box under the password where you need to type the name of one of your characters ?
That is if you still think you remember your password !?!?!

lol, yes I did notice the box. I typed out the full name of my main but no password would work I have emailed support but have yet to receive a reply, it's been almost 24 hours now, so I'm beginning to wonder if they exist at all :'(

Just to let you know, the War in Kryta hasn't actually played out yet. So far, its just new npc's, dialogue, enemy spawns. It's hardly worth comming back over.

There will be more then that coming eventually, so I thought I should come back and keep on top of it, plus I got the urge to finish EN anyway.

Hey Scavis,
I had exactly the same problem a few weeks ago. After some email contact with the support team I solved it on my own (finally ). But I have to say that I have a NCSoft Master account. So if you have a masteracc this one could work too for you (btw I´m using a german client. I hope everything will be the same with your perhaps english one).
1. In the login screen press "Reset Password"
2. Now you should see a new screen where you have to put in your login name (the one with the old email adress) and press the send button.
3. After that a message appeared ( something with "...message has been sent..:" and (!!! that´s the important part !!!)) "If your account is bound to ...Masteraccount....then please visit https://...". Ok, that one could be the reason, why I haven´t received a message.
4. I pressed the Https:// link in the message window and logged into my NC Mastersoft account.
After that I selected my GW acc and changed my password without having to know the old one.
I was confused for weeks about the first part of the message "An email has been sent" until I realized they havn´t sent an email.
Ciao

It's worth noting that, unless you've changed the e-mail associated with your account, the password reset e-mail will be sent to your old e-mail address (the one that's the same as your login name), for obvious security reasons.
Scavis
Thanks for the replies guys
The only problem with this is I do not believe I ever linked my guild wars account with an NCSoft account since I have absolutely no recollection of a username for the NCSoft site so even if I did go to that http link I wouldn't know what to log in as (my guild wars username doesn't fit)
Yep, that's the email I have been logging in to, they just have not sent me any email, I have however finally received a response back from the Guild Wars Account Support people telling me that they are escalating my ticket for further assistance, and someone will be in contact with me as soon as possible.
So basically, more waiting

Almost 2 days later and I still haven't received any more news regarding my issue from support, I'm curious what you guys think I should do, should I respond to the email they sent me asking for help asap or continue waiting for a few more days? I'm worried that my issue is simply going to be brushed aside and ignored, I'm already disapointed I missed out on the recent anniversary event
Dzjudz
You sent it in Friday and it's now Monday (note: weekend in between)? I'd wait a little .
Scavis
ah yes, I see your point haha, I must be too used to 24/7 support, I'll wait another 12-24 hours
