Viral Marketing/Updated Game Content Not the Same

From the Guild Wars Update page:
"Update - Thursday, April 29, 2010
Tyrian Events
With the recent declaration of war, there's been an upsurge of activity on both sides. Incidents with White Mantle Inquisitors have been reported from Scoundrel's Rise to Nebo Terrace. These interrogations and acts of oppression are likely a response to increased support among the populace for Princess Salma and the Shining Blade."
So I went and checked out these things like I always do. I remember a conversation an Inquisitor had with Farmer Dirk. Farmer Dirk lied and sent The Inquisitor to Scoundrel's Rise. I then saw the new update I quoted above and figured that this Inquisitor had indeed made it to Scoundrel's Rise now. I went out there and he wasn't there. Not only was he not there, but there was not a single White Mantle "Incident" in Scoundrel's Rise at all.
This is my suggestion: Please don't put stuff in the notes if it is not going to actually be in the game. I appreciate all of the new viral story elements, but there is a disconnect, because some of what ANET puts on the update page about this "War In Kryta" appears in-game, and some of it does not. I just think that it is lacking consistency and it shouldn't be that way. If the content isn't in the game to support what you are saying in viral marketing, then it kind of ruins the immersion.

I thought it was a "real" update.

The actual event was delayed due to Linsey being sick. I'm guessing that they had it all lined up to be release, and that the notes are out of sync with the real updates because of that.
jazilla
That stinks. *Get better soon Linsey* That being said, they need to put that in the update notes so player's know that it won't be there.

One thing to note: not all events happen every time you go there. If you only checked once, there's no guarantee that the event isn't actually there. Just saying...
I do think the WiK thing has been delayed much later than they anticipated because of Linsey getting sick.

So no one noticed the update was a bit large for a MAT update? While it didnt immediately happen I have 1 of 2 feelings:
1) stuff was put in that will be happening soon, so dont get your panties in a bunch
or
2) The stuff we were supposed to get was in another update, and they accidentally uploaded the wrong one (hence all the stuff ups).
Either way, I have a feeling that Lindsey is actually getting better or is better, and the ball will start rolling again anyway

Well they put in the new update notes just a bit ago that Inquisitor Bauer was bugged so that explains this instance of it. The problem still remains that sometimes what is posted on the War In Kryta page and the update page sometimes still do not put in to the game anything new. The other problem that I foresee happening, is that people that want to get caught up on all of this are going to have a hard time of it when there are 20+ bits of storyline to do before any of the new quests start appearing and they will have to figure out where to start. I can guarantee that people will start coming back to play new quests but aren't doing these bite size chunks of dialogue. I hope you good folks at ANET can maybe take that into account. I don't know if they will be able to even participate in parties with people that are further along in the storyline, or if any of this stuff right now even needs to be seen to do the new quests. It sure would be a help to know what the deal with this stuff is. If we don't have to do all of this stuff to do the upcoming quests for this content then I would rather put it off until the quests come out so that I can see it all at one time. Also keep in mind that just because those of us who still play on a regular basis would know to do that, more casual players won't.
Any info you guys can provide here would be great. Thanks.

Agreed. It's all a sort of false pretense at the moment, with nothing new for the 5th birthday celebrations AND consequent skill balances being delayed horribly.

I really wonder who will win this war.

Actually... Maybe this thread should be locked as there were 2 WiK updates in that update (though one has been bugged). They might just be additional dialogue, but they are still there

For example: I could be at the beginning and you have kept up with all of the dialogues and a friend of ours is at Inquisitor Bauer. Do we all have to be at the same place in the dialogue chain to be able to help each other? What if we just want to see all of these as a group? Do the quests NOT start until all of these are finished?
Please don't close this thread. This system needs to be worked on by the devs.

Part of my suggestion though is that they look at the dialogue system. If they have 10-20 of these things and no quest markers, people that don't start them until the quests come out are gonna be screwed because they won't know where to go. Part of my suggestion was to fix the way that worked or this is gonna be a total mess. Especially if all party members have to be at the same point in all of the dialogues. I just don't think this got thought through very well.

By the way, looking at your OP, it actually too three times of me mapping before Brauer was there. As I said, random

Given that the dialogue (besides the blade camp) is random in appearance and doesnt need a previous one to have been activated I dont think they will put it in that you need to see all of it before doing the quests.

I think the point of the dialogues is to give people who are really into this whole thing something to hunt for while waiting for the "actual" content to be delivered, which is why they're not pushing it that hard right now. Joe Pugger isn't going to care terribly much about finding a new dialogue scene, I think.

Wouldn't the Blade Camp be where we got the quests from though? I believe it would. There is nothing to make me think that you could get the upcoming quests without seeing all of that dialogue(EXAMPLE: Having to watch all of the Thackeray/Gwen talks before he appears outside EOTN to give you items). Really, I am wanting to know if that would be the case/do my other characters have to see all of those talks at the Blade Camp just like the Thackeray stuff? I think my points are pretty valid considering the Blade Camp came out at the same time as the Gwen/Thackeray stuff, meaning that it is more than likely we will have to watch all of the dialogue sequences at the Blade Camp just like with Thackeray/Gwen. There was no quest for that either, and yet we hadd to watch them all.

But more importantly
B) this is going wayyyy off topic. Your initial post is effectively saying 'dont say stuff unless it actually is in the update. And guess what, the continuation of the WiK is in the update via 2 dialogue appearances, and since that is supposed to be the whole thing with the thread, not the debate over needing to have seen dialogue in order to enable quests that havent even happened yet, so pretty much most of the debate, as well as the thread, is moot.
As I said, I think this thread should be closed since what has been put in the notes has been put in the game with that update.

Well the first time I looked Inquisitor Bauer was at Scoundrel's Rise, but the group he was with didn't say anything at all. I just checked it again and it seems that paticular bug was fixed. I got the new dialogue scene. Sure it wasn't a quest, but it was entertaining to watch.

You were the one that argued that we wouldn't need to see these dialogues to get the quests and then you agree with me that we probably would, but not before saying that its waaaaay off topic. You were the one that got it off topic. Stop asking for this to be closed down. It is totally valid to suggest that these things be looked at and I haven't repeated a thread whatsoever. It's still an issue.

We are still in the realm of off topic here cause your gripe in the OP is that if it isnt put in the game, they shouldnt mention anything in the update post. It was put in the game (the incident with Brauer occurs in Scoundrels Rise, plus an additional dialogue scene in the Ascalon Settlement which is bugged), therefore they have actually done what you asked, making this thread pretty useless. This is the whole reason I am saying the thread should be closed.
As for the agreeing but disagreeing: go back and read what I have said. the TL;DR version: I only agreed with the Blade camp, which whenever I made the comment I excluded (by putting in brackets like this). The part which I said would not apply is the incidental stuff, like Brauer and the issue with the farmers and such, which is actually going off the topic (IE discussing if we will need these dialogues to do the quest, instead of complaining about false advertising).
