Which professions are most in demand?

Hi there

I love grouping with random people to go on quests and missions, but it can be frustrating when nooone wants you to join their group.

I'm pretty new to Guild Wars. I've created a Monk and a Warrior, and while the Warrior is more fun to play, and easier to solo, there seem to be a lot of warriors about. Is the monk still in a lot of demand? The only problem with playing a monk is that you seem to be playing against the party window, and not the actual world.

Keen to hear some feedback on which profession will give me the most demand.

Thanks

People generally always want Monks. Prepare to get blamed for a lot of other peoples mistakes though.

PS: Good monks don't stare at the health bars. Good monks watch what's happening and prot/heal efficiently. For example, it's usually better to cast a blocking spell on someone who's taking a lot of hits rather than keep spending energy healing over and over. It takes practise (more than I care to put in), but if you really want to be a good monk you'll need to get used to it.

EDIT: Also, you should try joining a guild that is tolerant toward new players. That way you might find people who are also interested in grouping frequently, and this gives you more freedom to play whatever you prefer.

What about Necromancers? I've never played necro but they seem like a lot of fun

General PvE dervish, mesmers, and paragons are the least wanted. In higher end PvE dervish and mesmers become even more unwanted.

Necromancers have a god like status in PvE, they can fit a lot of roles really well, have massive party synergy, and can sometimes fit roles of other professions better using some of their skills. They are the standard of power, utility, and brute force in which other professions must compete with.

From what I see, in normal miss, zaishen miss, zaishen bounty etc it does not really matter. There are some exceptions where the leader wants a specific team set-up bc he knows it works. But thats very rare. So play what you like. Monks are always in demand.

However, if you talk high end PvE you need to
- either join a guild who is willing to go "randomway" / has pre organised events etc
- or you need to exactly know how the current SC (speed clear) works, meaning be a T1 T2 MT GWG or whatever ppl nowadays want ....

Generally casters are more wanted because physicals more often then not are retarded...

The key to becoming part of a group when playing as a warrior is to form the party yourself and do not run a W/Mo build unless it is just to bring a hard rez.

Also, do not change your profession in order to fit into groups. Play the professions you enjoy.

but what if you enjoy playing in pugs? its a fair trade-off to make.

@op, go with monk or rit imo. if you don't like either of those classes, i'd go with nec or ele.

I don't think you can justify playing a class you hate just so you will be accepted....

This I would have to agree with. Especially considering that with a bit of patience and thought you can make a build for any class that is desirable for a group. Well, that is if the group leader is someone that can actually think and not say something like "if it's not on PvX you are an idiot". If you ever run across one of those you need to just leave even if he's not talking to you. If you end up going with a class that isn't typically sought after all that means is you will sometimes have to talk with the group leader to get a group invite. If you didn't like talking with people though I extremely doubt you would be wanting to pug left and right.

Unlike other games that GW tends to compete with there is a lot of truth to the "with a bit of patience and thought you can make a build for any class that is desirable for a group" comment I made in the last paragraph. You may not realize it just yet but each class has around 110 to 140 skills to it (the exception being paragon and dervish which both have 85). With this in consideration and that you can take a secondary class(which you can change at any time after ascension) thereby gaining access to all of that classes skills you are sure to be able to come up with something.

The whole thing with mesmers not typically being sought out for groups may change soon with the buffs we are supposed to be getting if you decide to go with our class. I honestly don't think we needed it but that's just me. Heh, I wonder if after the buff we will see someone get a thing together like the all mesmer underworld team again.

Monks are always needed in a team. The others are only optional. A warrior isn't needed because you can add necro's to get a wall of meat to get the first hits. A Elementalist on its place can be replaced with a necro or mesmer of what so ever. But you should play what you like playing. Most groups accept anything unless they are 6/8 and want monks. Besides if you get rejected on base of the prof you are its most probably a shitty group anyway. And you can always start a group yourselve. The professions less favorite in grouping up are dervish and assassins though. Besides that, anything should do, every prof has its strenghts and weaknesses.

I'd say that, these days, the easiest classes to get into a PUG with are Monk and Ritualist. Monks are usually wanted as healers, but it's good to have a workable RoJ (Ray of Judgment) build available as well. Rits are desired for SoS (Signet of Spirits - spirit spammer) builds, but should also have a good Restoration healer build available.
