That Guy Was Really Rude- Player Etiquette- Express Yourself
Quail Stomp
You can meet some really nice people in pugs, its just sometimes there is one a-hole that screws it up for everyone. I have caught a good amount of crap in pvp but my two favorite classes to play is mesmer and monk. I can understand a pblock mes pissing people off so, yeah.

Me and my friend went into AB as a 55 monk and 600 monk for lolz once XD. although we actually helped quite a bit (RoJ is fun ^^) some assassin spammed that we were leechers, though we were actually doing something. then reported us even though we'd accomplished mroe than he had. ah well ^^. also the general PvP people who argue that a skill is better than another skill because it does something completely different. Thank goodness they're in the minority in GW ;D

Running passengers: got 2 incidents
One was a Droks run the other week. I normally go into a mob and kill myself so I can watch the runner and one of the other passengers started cracking it, worried I would get their survivor char killed on Dreadnaughts Drift (which I didn't). They actually zoned when another mob got too close to them (and the runner was halfway through). While I was being considerate, running into the mob which didnt come near the portal area, it is also a bit of common sense not to take a survivor on that run when there is a high chance of death.
The second was just last night, but I see it frequently. In this case it was the Rata run, but you could apply it elsewhere too. You go into an outpost looking for a run and someone says they are trial-running, usually for tips. There most of the time seems to be one person who joins the group and either complains or generally is an ass whenever the runner dies and either gives them crap verbally while running, or very little in payment at the end. For me, I usually give full payment, and congratulate them (it may have taken a bit longer, but hey, they got there) because they can get better and it is another runner in the system, but you do get the impatient ones

There should be some level of "rudeness" as it helps to hurt people who hurt others without words. People shouldn't walk away pleasantly while they ruin someone else's play.
Kicking people by profession and whispering them "no need [profession]" while on my mesmer sounds very rewarding and tempting, though.

It seems like most of my experience with rude people is while trading. Just a few smallish peeves of mine while trading:
- People who ignore offers (a simple "nty" is a reasonable response minimally) - People who won't give you an asking price and then act insulted at your initial offer. (if you refuse to throw out the first number, don't be shocked it what might come your way. A simple counter-offer is a reasonable response). - People who always want you to knock 500g off your asking price (it's such a minor amount...) - People who want your to show them stuff you clearly described already and can be seen on wiki. Yes, it's rude. - People who say, "I'll buy" and then put a lower amount in the trade window (or worst case a bunch of items). I'm always receptive to a different offer but don't tell me "I'll buy" when you aren't giving me my asking price. - People who put "serious offers only" or "no noob offers" in the trade window. I think a better way to do this is to post something like 100k+xx ecto or like. Obviously if the person has no idea what the thing is worth they aren't going to even be able to recognize that their offer is "not serious". - People who try trading with full parties. Not so much rude, but just a pain when I can just do a simple add to party and then double click their name to find them. Minimally give me a description "I'm standing on the bridge", "I'm the Golem", etc... - People who beg for the sale. Seriously, I'm one of the more generous people in the game and rarely ever sell anything for true market value. If you can't afford it from me, you can't afford it period... |
All I wanted was a price ffs. I had plenty of $$, prolly enough to buy the item 5 times over, but because the dude wouldn't just play it straight, well, also because he was out to scam anyway (I knew what it was worth before I asked

I've been building a fair little nest egg lately, but because of a combination of how rude most sellers are these days, and that 95% of them are out to get rich quick by scamming all and sundry, I daresay when I do spend it, it'll be obby armors and chaos gloves that get it, not ripoff-merchant traders.
I now have a couple traders I buy from, and that's it. IMO, you want rude asshats, go try some trading..

I think majority of rudeness stems from people taking the game way to seriously, this is why you find more rudeness in pvp than u will find in pve.
Some people get a self-esteem boost out of it....
Some people just have no people skills....
Some people just like being rude...
Internet = Raw humanity... it will never go away until behavior becomes regulated.
As for guild invites.... it does get really old especially when a person spams you constantly after you have said no... I suggest more barriers to entry to own a guild... higher cost... high accomplishment ect ect... majority of guilds i get asked by are new and/or desperate for members.... if i had to guess.... id say there is 1 guild for every 4 players in guild wars... just a guess
And that is what the ever so great invention of an ignore list is for...

if you hate all the idiot powertraders in spamadan (by idiot I mean the ones who pm you an exteremely low offer then cuss you out when you say no etc), just say "wts _______ for ______ e (at least 20e cheaper than a low price) and set yourself to do not disturb.
And to everyone qqing about assholes in ra, turn off all and team chat and set yourself to do not disturb. Stop whining its a 5 second fix

Some time ago I played FA on the kurzick side with my warrior. Around 5mins after the match has started, our team gets dominated. I kept dying, because there were not many healers around. Suddenly an ele on my team kept yelling in teamchat that I was useless and pinged my corpse. I told him to calm down and that it's just a game. Can't exactly remember what he replied, but it wasn't very polite of him.

Being bad is not a reason to be insulted. This happens only because insulting people stay behind the safety of a screen, and they know that they won't be punished for being rude. Try to insult your teammates or your opponents when you play a real sport and see what happens.

From what i have seen in game the ones that act like jack-asses are the bad players so i dont bother with them.

And however, like this guy said:

Most of them insult you when you're clearly better too, this really has nothing to do with it. |
Unfortunately, anonymity leads to this: even if you want to have good results and the other guy makes you lose with his badness, in real life it would be much more difficult to insult him, because people know who you are, and you have a reputation you want to defend (i hope

Most of my annoyances have already been listed by other posters here. But one of my more memorable times was during a play through Jade Quarry. I normally run knockdown along with some para shouts so I can switch between fighting and assisting jade runners.
During one match, our team was getting steam rolled pretty badly and could only hold the purple quarry. For the first half I tried to help take back yellow quarry with 1-2 other players. The rest of the team were pretty scattered/dead and were only playing individually. One warrior can't really do much against a full quarry and 3-4 enemy players, ya know? Since no one was really helping, I started to run the purple Juggernaut to make up for our score count.
It was at this point some guy started barking orders at me and constantly complained how I should be out killing things and NOT helping the Juggernaut. Although, I didn't pay much attention to him since he was only camping a guard post. If he wanted me to go out and help secure quarries, he should have moved his ass to where help was needed.
In the end, the match stretched a full 10 minutes or so and tied at 9:9.

Yes, i see, but you can't say that people shouldn't complain about bad behavior, especially in a forum which isn't a chat, which means that here we can discuss more deeply about subjects like these. Don't argue with morons in chat is a good suggestion, if you meant that, but i see no reason not to talk about this problem in this forum. I say this because your little answer to the other guy seemed something like: "stop qq'ing, it's your fault". I hope i understood wrong, though.

you want rudeness?port to fa.
There is a general hate from some eliteist nazis.
Example no melees,or trapper on lux side ,heck i even seen someone screaming in town that we shouldnt have monks.
I think my best answer was when i was trapping the portal and the rude guy of the case is next to me whining and yelling useless.
Only to see 7 kurz going for amber fell for it.
I guess the only way to deal with it is quite simple, the game is ment to be played by you and no kid has the right to dictate to you how to play.
So pretty much ignore them, and keep playing as you see it as fun for you.

A friend an I did the Zmission a week or so ago in late Prophecies. We both went in as monks. Joined a group and went on our way. 1/4 of the way through the mission and my friend is directing people where to go (they did not know for sure) and calling for people to pull in spots and giving suggestions on how to not wipe out the party. For the record, his suggestions were correct. Out of nowhere one guy starts flaming him. He did not even start out slowly, he called him every name in the book. The rest of the party asked him to stop, then TOLD him to stop. Finally he told my friend to piss off.
So he laughed and said fine. And left. I stayed in to see the reaction. The rude guy then said " We don't need two monks anyway. We can still do it." I responded with a laugh. "He's my friend. And no, you can't still do it and left as well." This was halfway through.
Back in town we were grabbed right away went straight back out and finished it in no time flat. Doing the same things he suggested the first time around. two days later I'm in a group and that same guy joins for the Zmission. I laughed and told the leader he was a jerk off and we should kick him. Thankfully he did.
Moral of the story is: Don;t want to play with rudeness? Then don't. I agree with people above, play to have fun. If they asses give you a hard time, find new people to play with.

I play for fun so recently I stopped trading, I would prefer to sell obby edge to merch or customize it on a hero on 15th character than go again to Spamadan. I even put myself constantly offline when I am in bigger cities. I have to say that my tolerance level has been reached. Same for FA or JQ, when I go there I am off. People have some amazing need to share their "valuable" opinions on the price even though they are not interested or just offer to buy accounts or just comment on armor, costume etc to random strangers or just add them to the team 15 times in a row every time being rejected. To RA I stopped going at all. It was not as bad as it is now for a long time. Since guild I am in is a bit dead GW become a single player. I am bit sad that a few annoying people are able to spoil game for others. Same here on gwg. Every second new member starts from trolling random threads and insulting everyone around. If I was not checking bug section I would not even come here again. </rant>

I was selling something in Kamadan, and had this conversation:
Buyer: "I'll buy."
Me: "KK, I'm by Bendah in AD2"
Buyer: "LOL. You're the one selling, you come to me, noob."
The dude was standing not 10 steps away. All I could think was that this idiot probably thinks that Wal-Mart sells crap door-to-door.
Anyway, the guy was lucky that I was in a forgiving mood (doesn't bother me to go to the person I'm doing business with, it was the "noob" thing & attitude that irked me) and made the sale.
On a side note: the reason I hang out by Bendah (in Kamadan, by the fountian in LA) when I'm trading is to make it easy for others to find me. When I ask someone where they are when trading, the answer I dread more than any other is "I'm by storage." Nooooooooooooooo! There's 50 other people by storage! Most of the lockpick sellers get it. They'll be on the bridge, at the top or bottom of the stairs, or some other place where they're easy to spot.

Well here we go, let's talk about the general level of politeness and good etiquette in Guild Wars.
I have to say that, in general, most players are very polite and friendly, compared to most other MMO's, we have a great player base. However, there are some exceptions. For example, when I'm buying or selling things in Kamadan, I get the occasional idiot who is blatantly only PMing me in order to hack me off. This mostly happens when I'm selling. For example, if I am selling something which is rare, about one in 20 people will just have a fat go at me and start "lol"ing because they can't understand why something with the same stats is worth more. I generally can keep my temper in situations such as these, but it's not easy. Anecdote Alert! (Sort Of)- the other day I was selling a pair of wintergreen daggers for my mate, and I had a fairly good offer of 30 ecto. I decided to keep selling for another 20 mins to see what more I could get. What followed was 4 consecutive time-wasters. All of them in awkward districts, all of them asking "Show Plz", and being the good-natured person that I am, I obliged to go to their district and show them. Basically it ended up with them insisting they were useless pieces of crap and I'd be lucky to get 5k for them. I'm fine with explaining to people why they are valuable but if they just ignore you and carry on whisper spamming you, it gets a little indecent. Another thing that annoys me is people who ask for a price, or ask for you to show, then when you respond or show the item, they simply blank you, no "nty" or "not for me thanks", just silence. It doesn't really make me angry, just seems a little insulting and disrespectful. So really this thread is just a general whinging thread for you to post and talk about rude people you've met in game, or what rudeness annoys you. Let us wallow in each others miseries! |
