Books also giving "double" reputation points!
upier
WARNING:
YOU WON'T ACTUALLY GET DOUBLE POINTS!
So, I happily turned in a few of my books today since I was saving them up to see which title track will get which book to get it max or as close to max without wasting points.
And this is what I see:
I check the wiki, check the log again and then RAGE!
As you can see - the log shows that I obtained only HALF the rep points that you'd normally get for turning in the book.
I rush to Guru, prepared to give my best Creighton Bernette impersonation, but then I check my titles again and I notice I did actually obtain the FULL reputation for the books.
So it's not actually a bug.
It seems that when the double rep weekend rolls into town, A.Net CUTS the rep point from the books in half, so that when you turn in the book, the now-halved number gets doubled and you get the FULL rep point amount.
I then searched the Bugs section and saw that this was actually noticed before:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/h...tml?t=10422208
Which means that someone at A.net actually goes (or went) out of their way to make sure that something, that is actually already programmed into the game and would reduce the grind, does NOT happen.
WTF A.Net!? Not enough grind already?!

Karate Jesus
It's probably a bug, regardless.
Report it to Anet or post it on the updates talk page on the wiki. I have a feeling this wasn't on purpose.

Kook~NBK~
I guess that part of the weekend announcement that says that books will not give double points isn't good enough. SO WHAT if A-Net introduced a mechanic with the weekend event to prevent people from getting double the rep points when they said people won't get double the rep points for turning in books?
You got full credit for your books, so you've really got nothing to complain about.

Night Life
yea i turned in my book and got full credit friday night

The number in the log is halved.
The bug report is from the start of the year - the time of the previous GWEN rep points weekend.
You also get double points from the ZQuests - which means that it seems that the points are universally doubled.
Coincidence?
Seriously?

And the way the game seems to be programmed, it seems that they actually already have a way to make sure that this grind would be reduced.
And it seems that they are choosing not to take advantage of it.
That's my problem. A.Net seems to be intentionally choosing grind over not-grind.

I hope the folks at GR keep making bots for every bit of anet's retarded grind, until it's all been automated.

It's so nice to see A.Net quickly fixing "bugs":
Turned a book in today, after the event ended.

upier, do you really need to make a matter of principle out of everything?
NEVER, EVER during events like this were the books doubled. That's probably to prevent books-hoarding before events, as they mean the weekend event to take place during the weekend, not before. Debatable as much as you want, but that's their choice and you were well informed about it through the public event announcement. I don't see how piling up books to turn them all in during an event isn't "grinding" anyway. Events are there to reduce grinding. Double points not affecting books actually promotes some (sort of) active play: instead of repeating missions multiple times to fill books, how about trying other, more profitable activities, such as vanquishing?
So what if they had to resort to some abstruse coding to work it out? Is that that much of a surprise to you?

BuD
So whats the point of this thread?
In the link to the thread you posted someone had a very reasonable explanation.
Seeing how on the message it clearly states that books are not doubled, this is more than likely the route they have to take to ensure that books arent counted as double.
Nice work Captain Obvious!

I am obviously no expert, but my guess would be that since the double weekend is not supposed to affect the books, I would guess that there was no way around having the double weekend not double the points for the book, so for this weekend they dropped the rewards points on the books to 15k and just allowed that to be doubled, thus ending up with the normal 30k. Just a guess, but it does seem like a logical explanation to me.

And yes, I do get the idea behind promoting teamplay with these events and how books that you fill in the months before the event don't play along with this plan.
My problem is that they seem to have put in additional work to make sure that the grind wouldn't be reduced, as if grind is what makes this game better.
It clearly shows that grind is one of the cornerstones of the GW design. And that is important, if for no other reason, because it shows A.Net's design philosophy and it brings up the question is this something that that will see more use in GW2. I mean, I have already bough the GW1 games, so it's not like I can opt out of supporting GW (although to be honest - I did opt out since I didn't buy GWEN. The only reason why I have it is because I got it as a gift.) - but if grind will be this prevalent in GW2, then I have the option of showing how displeased I am with the choices they made by not getting GW2.
It shows a picture that is different than the on that the PR folks are painting. And I see no reason whatsoever to not call them out on it.

Gotta love conspriracy theories.

To me, it only shows they are lazy and need resort to abstruse coding. If anything, they need to hire better programmers.
You're blowing things out of proportion, making a matter of principle out of a non-existent issue.
Faer
It is very important that we have a thread discussing this issue every weekend it happens. I can't begin to imagine what sort of problems could arise if we didn't.

And that's just skills where pretty much the only change is something that used to have a value of 6, now has a value of 4.
If they say that they do not have unlimited resources (which I fully understand), that means that the things that resources are wasted on are more important.
And here, somebody took the time to make sure that grind isn't reduced.

If they were lazy - we'd be getting double points from books.
Somebody clearly felt that spending time on something that will result in more grind is a good idea that will make the game better.

Or maybe, you're just obsessed with grinding and simply love to squabble about it whenever you're given a chance.
Somebody took the time to patch a thing to get the game consistent with the login announcement with minimal effort. That means, halving the points given by books temporarily, so that they're automatically doubled back by the event. If that took more than 3 lines of code and 5 minutes, I'll eat my hat.
They had a reason (unknown to us, but easily deducible) not to hand out double pointd for books and needed a simple fix for it. The reason is probably what I pointed out before, and I'm sure it didn't take much time to implement it. That's it.
Wouldn't it be nice if books were affected as well? Sure thing. They chose not to, so much for that.
Is the grinding reduced? If you obstinately got stuck with books and wasted the whole weekend trying to state the obvious, surely not...
Kattar
I'd suggest you head over to the wiki and post on someone's page. You might want to reword your opening post to get straight to your point though. Alternatively, you can pm one of the ANet staff here. If you want something done, you know how to do it. If you want to be pissed off and flail about, go somewhere else.
Given the overall tone of this thread, I am not sure it's a good idea to allow this to continue. We've had enough threads on OMG GRIND as it is.
inb4 Upier pm's me.
