This has come up in the past, but usually with WinXP. When it happens it's usually because GW is launching with a "-mce" command line option. I haven't installed Win7 yet, so I can't say for sure where you could change that, but ....

If you have a regular desktop shortcut, you can right click on it and select properties. Find the "Target" line, which should look something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars\Gw.exe". If there is a "-mce" at the end of the line, delete the -mce.

If you don't have a desktop shortcut, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars and right click on "gw.exe" and select "Send To" >> Desktop (create shortcut) and make sure -mce is not in the Target line.

a black screen for a second while loading is a common bug that seems to affect some ATI cards, all you can really do is try the latest ATI drivers and hope it goes away (for some it does for some it doesn't) - in any case it's not a big deal and won't hurt anything.

I get it with my GTX260, Elder. I've begun to suspect the 64-bit OS rather than the GPU. To get the same glitch with ATI and nVidia cards is too much of a coincidence.

I've just learned to live with it.

I have a GTS250 (ex-9800GTX) under Vista64, I've never experienced such a glitch. Coul you please explain more in detail what is it? Maybe it just me not noticing it.

I get the black screen on the following computers:

Windows 7 64 bit with ATI 4330
Windows 7 64 bit with GeForce 8800 GTX

On the second computer I used to run Vista 32 bit and no black screen pausing. As soon as I upgraded I got the black screen.

On a third computer with Windows 7 32 bit and GeForce 9300 I get no black screen.

You get used to the black screen and its a common, harmless yet annoying problem.

Interesting - I have not heard of anyone NVIDIA cards getting the black screen...

Main PC - has Win 7 64bit and 2 x ATI 4850s - with a single 4850 I used to get the black screen, but that was with XP 32bit & Vista 64bit dual boot - Upgraded to CrossfireX and no longer had the black screen, nothing with Win7 either.
Test PC - XP 32bit and ATI 4650 - no black screen.
Laptop - Vista 32bit and NVIDIA 7900gs - no black screen.

I think it's random, although I haven't tested Win 7 64bit with just one GPU enabled to see if it blacks out on me then....
