When i try to start guild wars i get this message:

*--> Crash <--*
Assertion: Unable to write patch file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars\Gw.000'
OsPatch.cpp(375)
App: Gw.exe
ProgramId: 1
Build: 30364
When: 5/13/2010 19:44:22

It looks like its unable to retrieve the game update or somthing. any ideas?

Try running the program as an administrator. I have had this problem a few times and have seen others talk about it to. Seems to be an issue when there is a new update but after running as an administrator it usually works.

As said above, "gw.000" is temporary file used by GW. You may need administrator rights to create the file. Or, you may not have enough hard drive space (it may need around 4gigs, the same size as gw.dat)

It's a windows vista/7 issue with programs installed in "Programs Files".. I believe it only happens with User Access Control on ..

The ways around this are:

- run programs as administrator
- install them in another directory (you should not have same issue if installed elsewhere, even with UAC on)
- disable UAC (this should resolve the issue, but might not).
