HUGE Lag Spikes
Feathermoore Rep
For about three days now. Every 5-10 minutes i get huge lag spikes. Like 30k-85k pings. Sometime i DC, sometime i don't. Made it very hard to play though. Ventrilo ping stays the same. Browser has no lag. Other Games don't lag, so its not my router. Router says outgoing ping to Anet servers is 8k consistently. So could be the ISP servers, but just wonder if anyone else is getting severe lag as well.

I haven't noticed any lag of that magnitude, are you playing in an active area?

I hit 14k about a few hours ago, but that lasted less than five minutes. AD1 Lion's Arch and AD1 Kamadan shows little problem. I spiked in Ascalon City of all places.

I've had the same issues over the last two days. Massive lag spikes while every other program (vent, MSN, etc...) were running fine and lag free. I would never get disconnected, but the lag would last for minutes at a time.

Several people have this problem. It's on Anet's side, however they refuse to believe THEY could have done something like this. Try customer support...come on...lets play a game to see how many exchanges it takes for them to figure out something's wrong lol.
FengShuiDove
Yeah, but sadly it's nothing really out of the ordinary. Couple of 20ks a day, otherwise normal.

OK, well, I'm done with this game until they fix this. I'm trying to vanquish, and I've only been able to get 1-2 zones done a day for the past 3 days because half the time I get d/c and unable to r/c. This is not fun, and therefore it being a "game" is pointless.

Yeah, I can't even play, but there's no point anyway considering there's no new content or skill updates still.

I’m also having huge lag spikes and frequent 007’s, which is making the game unplayable for me to do stuff. I’m glad; I’m not the only one, who is having this problem.
rick1027
yeah its made it almost unplayable for me tried doing a vanquish with guildmate got about ten minutes in it total froze. i was ts and i was able to find i dc ed. that was 2 days ago yesterday tried to get out to the talmark wilderness to witness some of the new stuff took me thirty or so reconnects just to be able to see everything... i live in west ny state in a rural area but until a week havent ever had lag like this only in real rare occasions.. all the lags were in excess of 20k.. i first blamed it on a huge fire they had down the road but this only happens in guild wars no lag anywhere else or with other games

Same here People.
but mine started 10 days ago. Pings in the thousands then normal, sometimes i get multiple 007's sometimes not. Lots of rubber-banding and characters frozen in place.
I've been on the phone with a net support which has been very helpful but we're still trying different things.
Ive used Game Adbisor, Belarc, Ping Plotter. tried disabling antiviris, reinstalling antivirus, changing antivirus. Disabling all startup items, running game in dx8-no shaders, no router, and ive run antivirus/malware of multiple kinds. all results are normal on all diagnostics so far.
All other programs and my browser are Normal. And all appears to be normal with my isp but you never know.

i have had multiple alliance mates disconnect in the middle of dungeons and not lose connection in vent or skype. they disconnect and are unable to reconnect most of the time.its truly frustrating.

I'm also getting some lag spikes This started around from May 14. I've tried switching from one area to the next, it's not my ISPs. Apparently, some people are affected by it some aren't. (To my knowledge, European players aren't affected)

If you guys actually want Anet to take it serious write some info on where you are connecting from and so on.

I am having the same problem. This started several days ago. ISP is currently with Time Warner and I live in Ohio.

Same here with the spikes. Any district, even my guild hall. Started a few days ago after the update. I lose my connectivity as well (no error messages). Was in UW last night and spent more time reconnecting than playing. My IP Phone, vent and all others appliances/apps are fine.
I may just cancel my pre-order for GW2 if this is our future. The quality of service for GW is really POOR any more since Aion came around.
Concerned patron.

I think its Timewarners servers. I did a few tracerts over the past few days and it just times out about 6 transfers in. But i can't get past that to actually tell if its Anet servers dropping connections or Timewarners still.
I'm in NC. Think its clearing up though. If it keeps up and times out at the same server, I'll think about a support ticket. Not that they'd actually give me anything than the standard auto-reply.

Yup i'm in NC. Representing the Wolfpack in the GW world. :-p
But yea whatever it was seemed to have worked itself out for now. I will say though that the IPs I've been connecting to in game have been changing more frequently.

Another North Carolinian here. On May 14-15 my lag was frightful, with average pings hovering around 2k and spikes between 20k and 80k every 10 minutes or so. I also DC'd with 007 about once an hour, sometimes with failed reconnect attempts. Then on May 16, everything was pretty much back to normal, with pings averaging 200-300. Same story as everyone else: all other internet-based stuff was running smoothly. Earthlink (via Time Warner's infrastructure) ISP.

4 of us in my guild were doing some things last night. 1 from Utah and the others from Arkansas. All on vent. The 3 of us from Arkansas kept getting huge lag spikes (I had 25,565ms pings every few minutes) but are using different ISPs. The 1 from Utah had no problems whatsoever. Vent worked fine with no lag. My ISP has a speed test website so I used it. No problems with speed tests. Even tried testing to Dallas with no problems. It's been this way for over a month now. I normally have around 65-75ms ping rates.
I've been a network engineer for 18 years. It appears, to me, that the problem is on the server end. Also... it seems to be worst during the first 2 hours after updates.
