things that should definitely be in game

TYPEING TEXT ON THE MAP- this would be sooo easy to put in the game and simply sould be in the the game! especially since they dont mark the names of the different areas on the map for you. they had this feature in 'ultima underworld' 10 years and it was as HUGE help, they should have it now. its an rpg, let us play the role of an adventurer and mark key areas of our interest on the stupid map!
ITEM DESCRIPTIONS- i think there should be a more in depth description on items in the game, maybe by right cloicking on them. the item descriptions now, could not be any slimmer. the deeper the better, in this case.
RANGER PET COMMANDS- you should be abloe to have more control over your pet, simply put. right now, you really have NO control over him, and that sucks, epspecially with everyone complaining about how bad rangers currently are.

2. What kind of extra descriptions do you think is needed? Just Curious.
3. I totally agree! It would be nice that while I'm taking out one monster, I could have my pet start on another. I've thought about this alot as I've gotten farther in the game.
4. Comment: To those of you that think Rangers are currently bad, have no idea what you're talking about and you obviously don't know how to play the class or the game very well yet! How long have you been playing this game? A week? Two weeks? I've done my fair share of diffrent classes and I can say that they all have a diffrent handling in battle.

Personally, I play a ranger, and he can do about 100 a hit... normally, no power shot, no favorable winds or anyhting lol so I don't think I am bad.

there is so many effects being flashed and displayed during fights, that i've gotten killed many times because i cannot tell if im hitting the enemy or not. i think they should tweak the battles so you automatically goto the next enemy after you kill someone. at least make it an option! i understand they wanna keep you involved in the battles, but when your getting killed repeatedlly cuz your just standing there, it sux. i guarantee they will not do anything about this.
i lost my pet once, because he got caught on one of those scorpion looking things on a path. its a good thing i noticed it not too far from him.

If anything I'd like an option NOT to select party members and pets by clicking their avatars, but rather target through them. I find my group window sufficient for all my group targetting needs, and more often than not I find it nearly impossible to click targets due to a group member's invisible target rect obscuring it.
Cybrosys
If pet control is added then those control options should be added for the henchmen seeing as they're exactly the same thing, stupid pets ^^;;
I agree that you should be able to attach more information to your maps, for example if you find a collector that you want to go back to at a later date, adding the information about him should be possible. Just as said, add a pin and write a description for that pin.

There are UI addons for World of Warcraft that allow you to make map notes. This needs to be in GW. It would also be really uber if you could draw on the overhead map like you can the tiny mini-map. This would make things MUCH easier for grouping with guildmates and friends.
Pet commands are sorely missed.
I would REALLY like battle spam to be logged to a window, and for everyone in my group, not just me.
The length of messages in the chat window is too short. I'm constantly having to break up my messages into 2 or 3 seperate whispers etc.

It would also be cool if you can ride your pet in some way, just like a mount in WoW but better.

Yay, someone else has the same part. I get sick and tired of looting mid battle, I hated it in WoW raids for my guild and got pissed even when we were winning cause it was just stupid, now in GW it is worse as people are assigned loot and act like they have to get it this minute. But, in the middle of a pitched battle, we'll slay someone, I'll go to start fighting...and bend down to loot. Or I'll attempt to target someone else, and look a pet is in my way. Luckily players don't seem the biggest deal, but, a monk who is clicking people out in the open is a monk who is letting his players die, that bar really isn't reliable just over their heads.

Targetting 101........... press c, then click on name.
Dtach
When thinking of pet commands, making them taunt would be nice ^^
i would really like them to dance/flex :P
typing on the map doesnt seem nice, but putting a map note would be good.

Would be really handy if you could create your OWN way points so if you find a nice trader you can get back there with out haveing to wander all over the place loking for him.

if your partymember holds control I think it announces who he/she is attacking as well as adds an arrow to the party window so you can assist easier

I've barely been playing for a week -- so apologies if I've somehow overlooked any features -- but these are my first impressions of what's "missing"... (some have already been mentioned here, just backing them up)
1) Option to toggle through targets (using tab) in current field of view only (instead of every target on the compass -- this drives me crazy!).
2) Option to remove pets, etc., from toggle targeting.
3) Option to prevent selection of groupmates by clicking on 3d avatars (keys or clicking party window only).
4) Bigger target marker. Currently the selected target seems to be denoted by a tiny little arrow. In the heat of battle I really need a big darn arrow!
5) Assist. As in, assist selected groupmate, not pick the Called target. This would make working with groupmates so much easier.
6) Visible signal of when autoattack is engaged, and a key assignment to toggle it off (or is there a way already, without moving?). This drives me crazy too.
7) Saved skill sets (much like weapon sets, but obviously only swappable in towns).
8) 'Following' groupmates to work as persistent follow, not just a 'go to' (i.e. keep following them, even if you catch up to them).
9) Ability to fight a particular team in PvP, not random picks. This could be achieved via 'private' arenas (both teams enter a password to enter the same arena). No experience gain from these battles, to avoid exploiting. Just for fun.
10) Chat filters and separate chat windows (or tabs on the same window).
11) Persistent chat history between PvP sessions (currently the history is cleared when you return to the 'town' area).
12) Macros of some kind -- even just one chat line followed by one skill trigger. I know you can announce a skill activation to the group, but this would allow far more flexibility in a game where communication and teamwork are key.
13) Chat logged to a text file.
14) Battle spam logged to chat (very handy if chat is logged... go go gadget parsers!).
15) A better manual. Seriously. The gameplay section is terrible. Give graphical representations of the compass icons, not text descriptions (what the heck is a 'ping'?! Just show the graphic!). Explain that refund points can be regained, 1 per 250xp earned. The manual doesn't even tell you how to form a group (as in, "select another player and click the green cross-in-a-circle in the party window") -- granted, it's fairly intuitive if you've played MMOGs before, but still...!
My main peeve right now is targeting (particularly point no. 1) -- the system is very clumsy and awkward and could use a few refinements. I can't count the number of times I (or a team member) have died because I couldn't select the correct target in time. When there is one opponent in my field of view, but click selection is obstructed by 3 teammates, I really don't want to be tabbing through 3 other opponents, 2 pets, 3 undead minions and a Spirit of Favourable winds just to target him!!

To target your allies enemy just have them call the target and then hit t, that's all you need to do. As for pets being smarter rangers would have an advantage over anyone else if they grew to be too smart, same goes for necromancer minions, and if henchmen were smarter then you might as well just make this a one player game since no one will need to group up anymore for some serious strategy.
What I would like to see is a shared quest system like the one present in City of Heroes and that goes for group recruiting as well. That game has an excellent grouping tool and a superior chat system where comic book bubbles appear above the speakers head without cutting words off. Also team captains need to have more power, such as being able to kick party members off of a team while in mission, yes I know this could be abused but run a few missions with people running off on there own and you will want this power because right now all you can do is exit and re-enter the mission without that person.
Some of the posts here are complaining that it is hard to target friend and foe alike when there is a big melee pile up, I like that it feels chaotic and intense, if it wasn't it would be to easy. Monks can easily heal party members by clicking on their names in the team window so what else do you want? The call target works fine as well. Personally I don't have any trouble getting around and targetting on the battlefield, since I either zoom right in to see or zoom right out to see the big picture, it is not that hard. Just my two cents, Valerian.

The problem I stated by kilguri, gr33k, and myself is one which is not easily fixed with a nearest target or scroll target commands. People who just fight the nearest enemy are idiots who shouldn't be wasting their time in my group, and yet it is easy if you have an intelligent person or two that is block your path to run straight at a person by clicking on them, to target an ally for no reason, it just needs to have a better priority.
Enemies > Allys > NPCs > Loot

It is possible to eventually find any target, true, but it's the time factor that I find painful. The GW targeting system is way more cumbersome than that of any other MMORPG I've played, and it's the only game focused on PvP, where quick and precise targeting is perhaps more critical than ever.
Valarian of Ascalon
I like the target system, it is messy and so is melee fighting. Why should you be able to target anything instantly with a click of a button? Sure it would make it easier to gang up on one target or to heal a teammate being mobbed but don't you think it would make it too easy then? Right now all you have to do is double click on a target to target them what else do you want? Valarian.

And having to ask a teammate to call a target before you can assist them is way too long-winded!

I guess I've never had a problem tabbing through targets when I need to pick an enemy who isn't the closest. You selection is highlighted (thus easy to see) and if you need to switch between targeting him and your allies (as I do), you can simply call the target yourself for an easy switch.
