Worth coming back?
Woodelf Archer
Hey guys, hope you're all doing well, been a while since I've been on guru.
Just wondering after a huge period of abstinence from GWs is it worth coming back? game is currently downloading the billion files you get on a first time run, so I haven't logged on yet. Probably safe to say none on my friends list are active any more and I have no guild, which is sad but not the end of the world.
I know a lot has not changed functionally to the game because I check updates still... but how active is GWs and the PvP side of things - mainly GvG?
Also out of interest are there still active PvE guilds?
all responses appreciated =)

PvE is vibrant and there are a ton of pve gulds that you could join ;-) Just check out the recruitment thread and you can find plenty .
PvP however has kinda taken a turn for the worse... Not that many high-end people playing anymore and apparently pvp bots are starting to become rampant in high-end play. Check out this mega-rant thread: Petition to Demand a Response from Anet

PvP terms what the 2 above said is very true.
PvE I know alot of people that are coming back after a long absence and they are enjoying themselves.

Because he is butthurt.
It's up to you. I took a long break too but came back. Although GW1 has some problems and is in a decline, there are plenty of people online and plenty of stuff to do. Personally, I came back because there is no grind in PvE - you can fully enjoy the game without having to stay online 24/7. Elite missions and dungeons are fast and fun. I'm not dedicated to PvP much so I dunno what goes on there.

Don't listen to our trolls. Just log in as soon as you can and play the game. It's still fun and there are new things to do. If you have finished Prophecies then visit the War in Kryta page on the wiki http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/War_in_Kryta where the war between the White Mantle and Shining Blade is heating up.
Check the Guild Connections section and look for a new guild. And maybe all your friends are not missing. Many oldtime players are returning due to lack of decent games.

Really depends on what you're looking for. I find in comparison with other games/rpg's GW just isn't very appealing now. Farming (aside from what SF runs remain) is not really existent and gameplay is very unrewarding in terms of loot. Give it a coupla days, then decide.

From a PvP POV... it's not worth coming back. Unless you have absolutely nothing else fun to play.

Cause of death: Botting.

To be honest, the PvE side of things is the same as it was back when EotN was released. Once you've done it, you've done it. I'd say play another game.
Unless you are happy repeating the same content over and over, there is almost nothing here for you. It's true the War in Kryta "content" is an ongoing release, but the rate at which it is released is so slow it's negligible. Storyline completionists might want to wait for a month prior to GW2 release to experience all the new "content" in GW1.
There is nothing new here to support a revived interest and there always was little end game to support prolonged interest.
TL;DR

- War in Kryta is released so slowly it's negligable
- PvE hasn't changed since EotN
- End game was never designed to support prolonged interest (unless you are grind happy)
- You would be happier playing another game

For PvP purposes, I would say no due to all the botting. I don't PvP, so I haven't seen it firsthand, but botting is the kind of thing that would just make me quit and find something better to do.
For PvE, I'd say it depends on how 'huge' you're talking about. If you haven't played since 05/06/07 then it's worth playing if you want to. There's stuff to do (you've probably forgotten a lot of stuff). If you quit last year because you completed everything and got bored, chances are you'll play for a day or two and get bored again.
