Stones? (UWSC)
Yasmine
I don't do uwsc, but, passing through toa I noticed a lot of pple saying things like: "100+ stones terra lfg UW" and "GLF terra 30+ stones", etc... This is probably a very noob question, but what stones are they referring to and why?

They are talking about Ghastly Summoning Stones it's to show how "pro" they are at uwsc because it's from the uw chest. Really these type of people are idiots because anyone can buy these stones from others. For example I'm in ToA right now and I see someone selling 90+ stones right now if I go buy them that must mean I'm pro in uwsc right.

Experience is everything, people want those who have been there, done that, have the t-shirt. In this case, the t-shirt is a summon stone and the more they have, the better. It has nothing to do with the skill of the player. Every chance people get to apply an easily-recognizable filter on experience, they do it. What they don't understand is that without new blood, everything dies eventually.

Tyvm for the replies, it makes more sense now (well, not that much sense but still).

Just show them a pic of your stones... I always have mine with me (Or they coudl be from someone else maybe);

those people arent idiots, they are smart, and its because anyone can buy stones.
heres why:
these pros farm the chest alot, thus have alot of stones themselves. asking for stones does two things:
1. raises the price on stones. the ppl asking for stones already farmed it enough, then they can sell it for more money.
2. when someone shows 30+ stones it means one of two things
1. they've gotten the uw chest at least 15 times
2. they've bought 30 stones. Both of these are good for the party. The first scenario is obvious. They've done uw a bunch of times. The second scenario is less obvious. I see it as, if they spend 30 stones worth of money, chances are they really want to UWSC, otherwise they would not bother buying them. If they are willing to spend that much on otherwise useless junk just to get into groups, i bet they've studied up on UWSC on pvxwiki or looked at youtube vids.
buying stones shows that you are motivated to do uw. instead of investing 2k for cons for the run, you invested 30*(however much gold a stone is). Even at 2k/stone, thats 60k you used just to uw, which is almost always greater than one you get out of completing one uw run.
Alot of the times, the same ppl asking for stones to join, are the same ppl that sell stones. Either they get experienced ppl, or they make money selling stones, both are good.

Buying 30 stones, while sure if they bought them to be able to do UWSC then sure they probably really want to do it, but it does not mean they are experienced at it. I mean, the stones I have are from a combination of guildies, from when we do UW runs in NORMAL mode, but I am sure if I were to look for a group, and show the stones that they would let me in the party and assume I know what I am doing.

Stone is a unit of measurement no longer used in the civilized world, archaic backwater countries still use it (and other non-metric measurements). One Stone is equal to about 14 pounds or 6.35 kilograms.
How is this relevant to UWSC you ask?
One noticeable observation about gamers, apart from the atrocious lack of personal hygiene is their weight, many pro-gamers managing to reach a body mass similar to the weight of a young adult whale...
The assumption in Guild Wars is that the more time spent doing something, the better at it you eventually become, and the metric by which this time/experience is measured is body weight...
So, when you see them asking for a "Terra 30 stone+" they're actually looking for a 'moderately' experienced gamer with a body weight of over 190 kg to play a Terra build.
Hope that helps!

I find it ridiculous.
However, considering the number of failures of an average Terraway. I understand why people use these stones as reference.

Whats next - i got 1000+ glacial stones being showed at longeyes to prove your a pro vaetire farmer ? , i got 3 stacks pf ectos to prove your a pro uw farmer ?
I know what others mean buy it dont really show anything as all can be bought - same can go for the lux/kurz ranks in ab - when people wanted high ranked players coz they were meant to be best players i lol`d , shame how you could farm the title in pve and not set foot in ab then when high rank enter and be regarded as a pro without any exp.
This has to be 2nd place to the most idiotic thing ever in gw - first is .... Pro Leecher in rata sum lol.

And here I thought it was going to be a W/E using 100 Blades and Stoneflesh Aura for a build called 100 Stones.
But it has been covered. People always look for ways to sound impressive when finding PUGs.
