A game for all ages
lukas989
So age groups - whats represented? Not that Ive done much mingling in game, but I do get the impression the core is of a younger age, in the teens. Is this true of the forums too? The one off payment was a big factor of desirability for me purchasing the game in the first place, and I can understand this is a big attraction for the young uns too. But yeah just curious to see if folk above 20, and indeed above 30 are represented in large numbers.
Cuilan
I've known quite a few players who are above 40 and even though not as many, even over 60.
I don't think any member of this forum would be able to answer this question.

Yeah not really looking for a definitive answer, just for the masses to fess up and reveal their own groupage.

MARA is an over 30's alliance with 7 guilds or so and hundreds if not more members.
Can't speak for the rest of the universe though.

I bought this game at the age of 16 and am 21 now but I am amased that more then 75% (not based on hard facts) of people that told me there age (I can only trust if they speak the truth) are older then 25. I also noticed some people saying that there parents/there childeren also had an account and played the game.
Fedetic
I am fifteen. But about 60% people I know in-game are 20 years or older.
Mintha Syl
All my friends who play are more in the 30ish. Don't know about the rest but for what I've seen here it looks like almost all ages are represented. Sure you'll see a lot of teenagers, being a game, in towns I see a lot of "my mum didn't buy me a bike" conversations, but you should be fine.
majoho
I'm 45 so oldies play GW as well

I thought there was a poll a few years back, but I can't find it. I'm over 60.

Im impressed! And well, relieved...being a non-teenager myself, Im always aware of the potential judgement that will be passed by non-believers that I play computer games. Ive heard enough 'forget what other people say' arguments to last a lifetime, but the natural reaction to people mockings is pangs of embarrassment, I admit. This is always appeased by fellow soon to be afflicted with athritis-ites, enjoying the experience with me. So yeah, mind is at rest somewhat. still dont think Im ready to engage in convos with folk I know about it, but hey one step at a time.
Rocky Raccoon
60+ here, I've been playing video games since they were invented and see no reason to stop.
Absolute Destiny
I'm 24, and several of my guildmates are in their late 30s/early 40s.
I dunno where one would look to find out, but I'm curious now about the age range in other MMOs, especially WoW.

The majority is always going to be 22-35.It's already researched fact.
In saying I've personally noticed non-subscription tends to take that average down by 5-10 years.
Edit:
You should enjoy this guys research...

In spite of the fact that the average age of computer and video game players is 30 (Entertainment Software Association, 2005), the articles in the special issue seem to perpetuate the assumption that mainly children and adolescents play video games. |

AuggieClown

All players I know are between 20 and 40. I've been told that I'm 29, but I look way younger, and I don't trust my parents, maybe they lied about my age.
The oldest I know should be over 61 this year.
The youngest I know was 11, but he got reported for being under the age and playing without parental consent, he could not prove such consent, and got banned (no harm done, he was a little jerk). Well, actually, he got banned for the way he complained when he was asked for consent, XDDD.

there are quite a few kids who play, but also a lot of older people too. it is quite a good mix. should be able to find guilds that only recruit older people if that is what u are interested in ;-)
LMAO

I'm 29, frankly I try to avoid groups with kids if I can, it's one of the detractors for me from this game.
Gill Halendt
27 here.
My best friend (also irl) is 43, he's officer in one of the guilds in my alliance and he's among the youngest members there.

Youngest in our guild is 7 years old, GM's son! Oldest is 74. And I'm old enough to be your grandfather and probably am.
Most of our members are college age and up, 30's married with or without children.
In this game I don't think age matters. WoW used to be much the same way, don't know about now.

I am 17, and surprisingly enough, not all people my age play this game, they're either playing WoW or hanging out with friends.
I am actually surprised there are alot of oldies around here, seems Guild Wars is more for a mature audience, a massive contrast from uh...how should I say it...Juvenile playerbase of WoW.

Hmm I don't know if its because my guild have a 'maturity' policy or what but nearly I play with in game and in my alliance are between 17 and 35. I've happily played with a retired couple and several 'mums and dads.' For me its much rarer to come across people bellow 16, i'm not sure if that is because my general experience of younger players has been sadly frustrating and so I avoid anyone displaying a 'younger' mentality or if they just never get far past the tutorial stages but to me the playerbase certainly seems much older than teens!
Bob Slydell
I'm 20 and prefer the mature age group, 17-18+ is usually an ideal group for me.
