You want an offline mode?

Seeing as to how people really like to complain (due to recent bannings), how would you feel about being given access to a client that only works for yourself? Sure you may miss others, but at the very least it'll keep you out of trouble.

Wouldn't it be a total waste of money to keep a seperate server running just for that purpose? After all, we don't pay a monthly fee to use GW.

Whats the point? Guild Wars (and MMORPGs in general) is all about showing off to others..right?
Zinger314
Proof that Guild Wars is actually a single-player game.
Ninja Ninja
Sounds like a private server of gw in the future not run by anet.

The only waste of money would have been keeping the main server running while everyone wanted to bot/afk, which I'm sure is saving them a bundle now.
Only if you haven't been banned. My point is I'm starting to show a little pity for all those who have been thrown out and it's reasonable to say living in exile without something to retain is a feeling that goes unwarranted.

I don't care at all about showing my accomplishments.
I would love an offline mode/private server mode (like you can setup a private server to play with 3 or 4 friends, no more, in order to leave the "Massive" part to the main servers of ArenaNet).
A private mode where you save your stuff on your PC (and the things you do on your PC in NO WAY carry over to the main server of ArenaNet).
If Anet sold such "private server package" for 150€ in the store, I would buy it on D1.

Ruining the game for others and hoarding all the high end minis only to be destroyed from the game forever. They deserve 0 pity.

Actually no, it's kinda like how diablo works but with no server access. Also everyone can download from the same client.

Sounds far fetched gw is going to continue to run even after the release of gw2 so this would be nothing but a favor to the botting population.
belshazaarswrath
Yea they won't do that...They don't give a shit about the people who botted.

Playing offline would mean nothing. all the loot, quests etc are all serverside, not client side, so while you have the info for how X bow or Y sword looks, it wont drop in the game, and all you would be doing is killing spawns of mobs (assuming that isnt determined serverside too)

i vote yes for offline mode, so that the people who claim that gw is dead will finally have full proof to back up their claim.
Chronos the Defiler
moving that information into the client makes it too easy for someone to reverse engineer, causing private servers, hacks and other types of emulation that would cause alot of issues

Wait... that doesn't make sense, why would you want your own private gw to bot?

I'm not computer literate, but I'd really like to help out on that if my presence would be of any aid. Unrelated, but would it be possible to revert skills on a localized GW or even make new skills...? Also there'd definitely have to be 8/12 hero slots.
Yes, I want an offline mode, mainly so I can balance skills myself and not have to deal with morons.

I would really want a private server option if anet decides to pull the plug on their servers, at which i would be able to download all my account data, such as my storage, inventory and ofcourse all my characters.
If i recall correctly anet stated once that they might consider that option once the game servers are going down, in the end i did spend well over 350 euros on this game and it has certainly been worth it, but still, a private server would be great.

Good point!
Although if there was an option to buy a package that does all the things the game does now i would instantly buy it, a sort of dedicated server pack that has all the data you mentioned, but the dat file is still client only, where you still have to login to like we do now, which would allow internet based servers, or lan servers.
I wouldnt care about the disk space it might need xD

If you want to feel like your playing gw alone why not go to an inactive language district.

Because the game is now still live, and enjoyable for my part, im just saying that after anet shut it down, id love to run my own game server.

If they did decide to give gw1 as an offline mode it would be bad business sense because it would give people who never tried gw before a reason to not buy gw2 or never buy gw1 now and just wait.

I see where you coming from on this but after gw2 is out gw1 is still going to be running. gw1 is fun but I can't wait to move on and upgrade to gw2.

In the end if you keep playing gw for a 1000 hours on your own private server you will have done everything anyways, so then you want more, and gw 2 will offer it for you, the only downside is no hom transition from a private server, but well thats not really important enough to skip gw2.

anet should make a "virtual" private server option that calls back to the main server on a regular basis (like once very 30 seconds) to ensure that everything running on the virtual private server is legit, and also to update all player achievements/inventory/whatever so the two remains in sync.
don't ask me how to do this; but i'm pretty sure it's possible.

would love an offline mode so I can play around with character and skill editors and make super powered characters for teh lulz

If it meant there were 8 100 man guilds, 4 for PVP and 4 for PVE, connected DAILY, I would say lets go for it.
