Henchies/Heroes and your loot
SpyderArachnid
Does anyone else think it is a bit "frustrating" (a light word) that henchmen/heroes get your loot?
This is the way I see it. Henchmen are hired help. They share your gold to pay for their services. Why do they get to keep your loot as well? You are working hard to get certain items to drop, and then bam. A henchmen gets it instead.
Heroes are a bit different. They are helping you to rid the world of evil basically without payment. So you work and share loot with them. So why don't heroes have bags that you can share loot together? I mean if they can have your loot whenever they want it, why don't they have bags? I give them new armor and new weapons and buy them skills to be better, but I can't share what loot they have with myself?
I was doing Dajkah Inlet earlier for Armor Remnants. From my understanding, if you hero/hench missions, they share your loot. So basically I was farming armor for my heroes. The Henchmen were already sharing the gold I make so there is their payment for being hired help. But heroes on the other hand...
Koss: Hey I just got a Sunspear Armor Remnant!
Me: Awesome can I have it?
Koss: Nah I think I will hold onto it to use it for new armor for myself.
Me: Well if you give it to me, my contact can make armor for you since you can't talk to the person yourself for some odd reason.
Koss: Nah it's okay. I will keep it and imagine that I have new armor.
Me: Umm what?
Koss: I'm going to keep it so you can't ever have it, even though you give me other armor and new great weapons and new skills all the time. This way, you will always know that I have it and that you can never get it.
Me: .................... *cast Ray of Judgement on Koss*
Yeah that's how I feel basically when this happens. Why should heroes get your loot? If this is the case, give them bags so you can share loot between them and yourself. Otherwise, remove this feature. It makes no sense for henchmen & heroes to get your loot that you are working for if you can't even trade it between yourselves.
I mean we give them runes and insignias for gear, we give them new weapons, we buy new skills and get them new builds, and what do we get in return? Their help isn't a valid response either. I do the same work, if not more when we are out adventuring. Yet they keep all their loot to themselves, and I am constantly giving them stuff to help out, and I get nothing in return but them keeping stuff that I could use.
Yes this is basically a QQ thread and such, but it is just frustrating that they get to keep loot from you and there is no choice in the matter. I mean god forbid I use henchies/heroes for the help they were designed for, but get penalized for doing it by them taking all my loot.

If the rule changed everyone would H/H.
Everyone.
Your basically asking for a 75%+ chance of loot over an all human team.

it's no different than going with a full group of real people
the loot assigning system is something that is right in every way. Games where you can loot steal, or everyone creeps in when something big is about to die and start clicking on the ground madly is BAD.
And having an in-game chat conversation with a hero is even crazier than having a conversation with your cat.

Well going with a full group of people, you all have bags and if someone needs something that drops for someone else, you can trade between yourselves and such.
Unlike with a group of heroes and henchmen, you can't trade between yourselves when they get loot that you could use.
I'm not asking for a 75% chance of loot over others, I'm just saying that you should be able to exchange items with heroes. I mean you can do it with a normal party of human players, why not with heroes? Otherwise, all those rare items that drop or those items that you need that they are all getting, are going to waste. Unlike with a real team of humans, everyone is getting something and can trade amongst each other if someone else needs it more than the one who got it.
And I didn't really have a conversation ingame with my heroes, I was just giving an example of how it seems :P

so how do you propose Anet drop everything and after 5 years of it being this way, to devote resources into coding an AI bartering system where they know what to want, know the current market prices, and procede with exchanging? Do they have their own inventory? Do we need to wait for them to ID, salvage things, visit merchants, all that? Seriously.

I wasn't attempting to be accurate but break out your calculator if you feel so inclined.I don't.
Doesn't change the obvious.
Edit:
It should be painfully obvious why this is a bad idea.
Your basically giving a huge drop percentage incentive to one player for just H/Hing.
A farmers wet dream maybe, but bad, bad, bad for the game as a whole.
Imagine a solo farmer flagging.
I'm off to work but I'm sure others will point out the other blatantly obvious reasons this would and should never happen.
Dreams are free.
Take it easy.

H/H don't get item drops...?
SpyderArachnid
They do get item drops. Whenever you farm something and wonder why it didn't drop, look at your henchies or heroes. They are the ones who got it instead. It's not that most items have an extremely low drop rate, it's that computer controlled AI is getting the items over you.
Indeed I still stick by and say it is definitely frustrating that it works out this way, and yes it would be a tedious process to develop a system for heroes to use bags and use trade options. As in giving your heroes a ID and Salvage kit to ID unidentified items and to Salvage salvage items. But everything else would remain in their bags and you would buy the items off them for a market price, which I know would be hard to implement.
It is all wishful thinking and speaking out of frustration basically. I do still believe it is terrible that they get to keep loot that you will never get, but on the other end, I do know it is a bad idea to disable that feature for the sake of farmers getting extra loot and everyone resorting to nothing but H/H.
But alas, most of the game is H/H these days. Try sitting in a mission trying to find eight players willing to do the mission that aren't all the same class. Trying to find a balanced group takes hours, and by them, all the people in your group left and just H/H it in the end anyways.

The effect on your loot of having 1 hero/hench on your team is EXACTLY THE SAME as the effect of having 1 human player on your team.

If Anet had a sense of humor they'd have an emote bubble appear above the head of your heroes & henchies showing (via icons) what drops your heroes are getting... I'd laugh...

Because you know ANet would screw with us, every time a player didn't get a drop, the rarest possible drop from the enemy would go to a random hero.

Heroes and henchmen are party members. Drops are assigned to party members within range. It would be utterly hilarious to see everything that drops for H/H in the chat window.
The Scorpion Knight
It would be nice, but there already running the build/armor/weapon setup that I want and that's more than enough lol.

Why would people do all with h/h if the drop rates changed? Playing with AI will never be like playing with humans, and I guess you people know it

It is really annoying when farming for greens with H/H.
A lot of times, I see the green that I want equipped by the boss, then very rarely, you even see it spring up, spin and drop after killing it.
But the Green isnt available to pick up because a henchie took it.
Wheras when you play with other people, whoever gets the drop can pick it up and trade it among the group.
Farming green weps with H/H is beyond frustrating and a complete nightmare.

I'd rather have the use of 5 heroes but yeah that's not gonna happen. As a general rule playing with humans takes up a lot more time (having to find someone etc.,even in a guild this is a drag) and h/h is just so much more convinient. It's a bit late in the game to still hold on to the notion that GW can become some sort of epic co-op adventure.
MagmaRed
If you want items to be gauranteed for you, go solo. If you want the ability to trade with people who got a drop you wanted then go with people or sit in a town asn WTB XXX. If you want to play with heroes and hench, deal with their issues. Gold is shared between heroes and hench, and people, so that doesn't change regardless. Items are dropped randomly for anyone on the team within range, and that includes heroes and hench. If it bothers you so much, don't use them. One of the few things about the game I think Anet got 100% correct.

The current drop system ain't broke, so there's no need to fix it. However, to be fair, I think having Alesia should throw a -1 on the party size as far as drops are concerned.
I knew a girl in college who would verbally speak to Oblivion NPCs. It was reaaalll creepy.

Olias has needs too. And I think he deserves whatever he wants in his private life after all that he's done for me.
Sword Hammer Axe
Actually I think it's fine. It's to make sure that people wouldn't get better drops if they went with henchies than with other players.
Although I think they should make it different: When you are out with your henchmen u have just as big a chance of getting something as if you went alone. This would make solo farming pretty pointless lol. If you however have 1 or more teammates with you, your chance of getting a drop should increase according to number of teammates. This would make more people team up and pug

Allowing trading of items with your heroes does not simulate trading with players, because heroes have no free will. For it to work, a hero would have to be able to say "no".
Trust me, heroes are getting the short end of the stick here. Sure, they get loot drops you can't access, and you have to outfit them with items and runes. Still, find me a human player who will, in exchange for being outfitted with gear, always login and play whenever you want him to, always use the build you tell him to, always stand where you tell him to, and always do whatever activity you feel like doing.
The heroes are getting screwed here, not you.
Zebideedee
I can accept the sharing, but sharing gold when it actually drops for you is annoying
Targren
Hell, find me a HERO that will do that. Even when flagged, they all seem to have a bad case of Restless Leg syndrome.
Nerel
I too can accept the sharing, what I can't accept is that when the heroes do something utterly retarded and nearly cause a party wipe... we can't kill the hero and take their stuff.
Zenzai
From an economic stand point, it makes sense for Heroes and Henchmen to have a share of drops. I still wouldn't mind an option to trade gold for some of their drops though.
Hobbs
Seems to me that if you got the loot of H/H items then there would suddenly be 8 times as many drops in the economy, that's something of an influx...
MagmaRed
Impossible to do accurately/fairly. If you are in UW and an ecto drops for a hero, you get an option to buy it from the hero at the Rare Material Trader price? But what if a monster drops a 15^50, req 8 Fellblade? Do you pay the Merchant price of 200-500g? Or do you pay the stack(s) of ecto the market may be offering? How about collector drops Nick is asking for? Say he wants Alpine Seeds which sell to the Merchant for 8g. But they don't have a lot of drop locations and don't drop that often. So the player market is selling them for 500g-1k. Which price do you buy them from your hero for?
a-kyle
Do you wanna know how to solve this whole issue? its SOOOOO SIMPLE! and you GET ALL THE DROPS, ALL THE GOLD....EVERYTHING....no ladys and gentlemen its not a hack, exploit or cheat.....get ready....

I appreciate the OP's point. It is a pain in the arse equipping heroes in addition to yourself. However, if your hero gave you access the drops that a second player would have received, you create obstacles to teaming with other people. As someone mentioned earlier, people would h/h or duo almost exclusively. [inb4 I know many people all ready do this] Beyond that any time you wind up with a mixed group, [e.g. 3 people and the rest are henchies] you would spend so much time arguing over who gets to bring what amount of heros, that you would wish that the change never happened.

Heroes and henchmen need to eat too, y'know. Koss and Dunk have child support, Olias needs a hair transplant, Norgu and Goren need to pay for weight watchers, MOX has to buy new batteries,... You think your avatar is the only one with needs?
Qing Guang
I have no problem with Henchmen taking our loot. After all, they work hard, and they're basically mercs. You hire them, you let them get their cut. (or, gameplay-wise, it's the price you pay for not at least finding one other person to play with)
But Heroes... that's another matter. They take our cash? Fine, it's not like they're our slaves. But how can we be expected to keep them in the best equipment if they take our loot? This is why I never bother with weapon/armor mods for my Heroes. This is how I imagine my character's conversation going (Jenna is me, Rosa is my GL - and yes, I picture Teen!Gwen as a whiny brat):
Gwen: Jenna, how come you never let me have any nice gear?
Jenna: Money's tight, kid. Deal with it.
Gwen (whining): But Rosa's friends get only the best equipment.
Jenna (exasperated): Rosa has more money than I have. Rosa's also a Canthan and thus did not lose everything in the Searing.
Gwen: But you used to give me stuff all the time.
Jenna (losing her patience): You were ten. And trust me, capes and flutes are far cheaper than runes and fancy staves.
Gwen (frustrated): How am I expected to help you out if I'm decked out in the same stuff they hand out to the rank and file? I can't compete with those other adventurers!
Jenna (mocking, but clearly losing it): How am I expected to help you out when you take a cut not only of the cash but of the loot? Do I look like I'm made of money?
Gwen (defeated): Well, I...
Jenna: Yeah. Exactly. You don't need all those clothes. You want new stuff, hand over the scythe next time.
So yeah. It's annoying that we're expected to gear all these extra characters, yet we don't get their cut of the loot.

I don't mind hench taking loot when they are in your party. I object to them taking loot even when I am solo. Which is what they do according to the way loot scaling is supposed to work if you believe (which I don't because it's just a lie) the official account.
