Ok, so I installed Windows 7 after I decided that running on Debian was too much hassle and I'm just not too hot with Windows.
I try to load it and it gives me the following message:

Please verify that you have installed DirectX 8 and an updated video driver, and that your system meets the following minimum specifications:
I have the required system specifications and I've got DirectX11 and my latest gfx drivers downloaded. I can't seem to work out what the problem is. I was wondering if someone could help.

Assuming you've just installed Windows 7, only a basic graphics driver will have been installed which lets you use the card but won't give you the advanced features that the full drivers support (such as Pixel Shaders, PhysX, Direct3D etc).

If you haven't updated your drivers then go here:

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk

to get the latest version.

Lol - that raises an interesting point!

As you're in England, the link some- 1 posted would seem to make more sense than the .com link moriz posted. HOWEVER I have always downloaded the en-US drivers from nVidia.com despite living in England because I have the suspicion that the en-UK drivers will be slightly bloated due to being international versions.

Or am I just stoopid?

Oh, by the way - this is a laptop we're talking about. Don't their video drivers tend to be manufacturer-specific, rather than generic nVidia ones?

The problem is, whenever I go to Nvidia, it tells me that the drivers I need to install will need to be got from my laptop company, which'll be Sony. But when I go to Sony, they tell me that I have the latest drivers.

according to sony's website, your laptop model does not exist. so, looks like you'll have to find your drivers elsewhere.
