Intensity of bans
Zarion Silverarrow
What do YOU think?
Should a perma ban be given to the person that botted 5 years, and the person that boted 1 second?
Should the level of punishment be the same as the one that affected the game?
Should you be removed of ALL possesion/accounts and then be given your account back?
What do YOU think?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
No quotes from EULA,no quoting someone else to correct them in your opinion or critize their way,no flaming.
Just plain what you would do if you were the only chief of GW. You are in charge of everything. You decide the intensity of the bans.
Nothing else... no "but thats just the way it is",no "The EULA states it"
NOTHING.ZERO.NADA.
Just what YOU would do.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
MY opinion;
The intensity of the ban should be according to the intensity of the things you earned. (pve)
1 non-perma ban would be given, then any other offence would be permanent.
If it was PVP...well...I'd have to think about that....but mainly...
PVP botting=perma ban

Remember please, this isn't riverside. This isn't to discuss other's opinions, but to post your own, nothing else.
I won't post anymore on this thread, just edit this post.
---@ Gabriel of ravn, this isn't about the bans being legitimate or not,its about what you would to someone who did bot.---
---@ Ninja Ninja...those are questions, but there not literraly what you have to answer ...------
----@ KROMNUS: What about the effect, instead of the time. People, like me, boted for a few secs in a town, gained nothing. So then the comparison between someone that gained nothing and the guy that got $6000 IRL isn't the same as the one you made. Its who's worse,a lil kid that stole bread,or a murderer?
[email protected]: Well,I know...everyone here on please just post suggestions only,or mods delete the posts that ain't suggestions please...-------
[email protected]: I just asked questions, not critizised...its adding to my thoughts, using others thoughts, not changing or pointing out errors in others. Come up with your own opinion, and if it's the same as A-net's,answer like Del.-----------
Irregardless of that, please keep the rest of the posts as suggestions. Nothing else, nothing like "Well Zarion"nothing like "Well Kromnus" nothing like "Well MagmaRed". Nothing. Just.put.what.you.would.do

Regardless of other factors, anyone who bots should get a fairly harsh ban. The only time I would consider not permaing is when they tested it, uninstalled it a very short time after, and did not get anything significant with it. Even then, a good chunk of time off to indicate the EULA isn't just a bunch of words. Anyone who used them with intent deserves what they got.
EDIT: Oh, and about your 'PvE botting should be decided depending on what they earned', I disagree. Let's say there is player x and player y. Both are equally greedy and have the same disrespect for others and the eula, however, player x got his bot up and running 2 months earlier than player y. Why should their bans be different? They botted for the same reason. Intent is much more important than gains.

End
first ban -> total wipe of account (storage, Chars, everything) + 5 day ban
Second ->perma

MY personal opinion... The bans were just and they are well deserved regardless of the "Intensity" or "Frequency" of using said bot. With out quoting the EULA, the bot is an UNAUTHORIZED program that alters the dynamics of gameplay which can potentially ruin many aspects of the game. I.E. the market for the game. Lastly, if 1 person was given leniency on the issue then ALL would; thus allowing people who did not care one way or the other about botting/being banned, back into the game to further exploit using bots.
Again, I reiterate my oppinion... All of the bans were just.

While I'm not sure that 100% of the bans were just I do believe that a majority of them were. We don't know the way they detected the bots so I can't exactly say they were all 100% accurate but it would be hard to believe that the majority of these bans were not justified.

In as simple as I can make it.
1. Length of ban should be dependant on the frequency of the injection, and the number of accounts on the same IP that were injected
2. It's not fair to compare someone running 50 bots and selling their IG items for RL cash, to someone who ran a PvE title bot, or used the PacketFaker to spam cool emotes
3.For those who did not seriously affect the game, but ran a bot script for self gain (ex. improving their PvE titles or using an interupt bot) their accounts should have a lengthly ban to discourge use, perhaps even as much as a 2 month ban. And their account's titles should be reset to what they were in March. This is more than enough punishment, they will be stripped of the advantage they gained and they will be suspended for a period of time that prevents them from taking part in the WiK as it happens.
4. For those who used bots to gain real money through the use of a large quantity of accounts, those accounts should remain permenatly banned.

Well, if I was the chief of GW, I would be looking at it from a business standpoint as well as a player standpoint. Seeing as there are only 5 people working on the Live Team, and very little working on GW as a whole, I would not put 20-30 more people on that team just so they can have the mind-numbing job of sifting through 3700 accounts like that. It would probably outweigh the revenue from GW in the first week. Could you imagine how much scanning that would take? And how long?
In other words, I would do what A-net did. Because it is a business, not Unicef.

my personal op... if you used a bot you did it with the intention of cheating period...
even if you were "just testing" it. Everyone knew/knows what would happen if they were caught. again, my op is there is no such thing as "just cheated alittle". you did or you didnt period.
as far as the bans go, it is tough to see some personal friends get banned after 5 years along with everyone else, but they did do wrong. re-setting someones acc to "like new" would be too impractical as well as temp bans for certain individuals.. again back to the "you knew what you were doing when you did it" even if it was only 1x or 1000x.
I would ban, and then begin to look harder at more bans for the "better botters" that were missed.

pretty much what anet did.

I agree.
Furthermore I believe there should be no wiggle room, its fairly obvious, w/o looking at the EULA that A-net does not like bots and will ban you if they catch you botting. Doesn't matter if its 1 second or 5 yrs, you should get banned IMO.
I am not that knowledgeable on the botting software, but is there anyway for A-net to monitor HOW LONG the bot has been used on an account? If there isn't, than anyone, even long time bot users can simply cry to A-net that they did not use the program over a long period of time and potentially get a smaller penalty because A-net cannot prove otherwise. (okay fine, if we see 5 stacks of ectos on the account, something might be up, or the player is just that dedicated to amassing wealth =P)

I agree with walkin dude, especially if people wasted thousands of their own time and just wanted to learn a new farming route or something easy to do when their half asleep... pvp botters should just loose their titles and pve botters don't really matter, it always amused me to watch them get stuck in towns..

That's like asking the judge should you have been given a ticket by a police officer even though you were only speeding for 5 seconds. 5 seconds or 5 minutes, speeding is speeding and once the radar caught you that was it.
Same thing with the whole bot issue. People did it and got caught, and the whole thing with people saying, "I know this person wouldn't do it and they got banned without just cause....How many times have you heard of someone doing something in your real life and the first thing that came to your mind or you have heard others say, I never thought he/she would do something like that when you have found out they did in fact do it?

This belongs in Riverside, not Sardelac. I don't see any suggestion being made, just a 'poll' of what people think should be done. My opinion is that botting should be a permanent ban, regardless of how much you used one or what you used it for. Things like racial slurs, character names, spamming, etc. can be for shorter durations, but botting and match manipulation should be permanent in my opinion.

Well you broke your own rules by criticizing other people's opinions so I'll do the same.
You broke the rules and you lost.
Many people create threads going on the premise that we the audience believes their sob story.
Irregardless, suck it up.
