Recyclable character names

If an account is banned is that name eve gonna b able to be used again? if not and it's taken in guild wars 1 is it available as a choice to those in guild wars 1 to transfer over to guild wars 2 or is it automatically saved once gw2 is made or do you need to have certain content updates in order to transfer characters names over to the next game. There's a friend who hasn't played in a long time since first month that won't play anymore cause he's a wow fan now( bleh ) but like can I get his gw1 character name in guild wars 2 if he doesn't play anymore or I it already save in guild wars 2 before it's released?

afaik, unless Anet reset the name (which they won't), getting the name changed on a banned account isn't possible. Regular name change methods will not work as access to the account is required.

Don't know about the GW2 stuff. I know that names will be reserved, but I'm not sure on the exact conditions.

As I understand it, to reserve your charectar name for GW2 you must register your account. If he has not played Guild Wars for as long as you claim, you can use that name in Guild Wars 2, but not before. As long as his account has not been banned or charector deleted.

1. The names on banned accounts will never be available in GW1.
2. The account owners will not be able to purchase GW2 and link the account to their GW1 account, so will not be able to reuse the names.
3. After the set time (to be announced) has elapsed the names will become available in GW2.

also, its the same as if someone never comes online anymore in the game. they cant give you the name even tho you may be more active then the other person.

its more towards the idea"Well.. they havent been on 2 years but they MIGHT come back on."
so if there is a ign you want add them to your friends list and wait it out. they might come bk on.
