BEST character for solo play?
Ironfungus
Just looking to experience the content of all the expansions and the first game. I've been playing a Necromancer/Monk as a Minion Master but they take way too long to get going, therefore can't really take on tons of enemies right off the bat. I'd love to play something that can just take on a TON of enemies and kill them all.
Every build for every class I look up (particularly the solo builds) revolve around elite skills or otherwise impossible to get when you're starting out, or not even remotely soon. I'd love a class or combo where I could just sit back and chill. You know, spray from the hip. Can the Necromancer do this, or do I need to make a Warrior, or something?

Guild Wars is a team oriented game. Its missions and quests are designed for full groups of 4, 6 or 8 members, depending on the area you are in. It is not designed to be played by only one character in your party.
If you want to play alone, add the available henchmen to your party and fill it up to the maximum number of members. Or, if you are playing Nightfall or EOTN, use your heroes and customize their builds.
There is also no class where you "could just sit back and chill" - you always have to fight and help your party in one way or the other. There is no silver bullet, no final all-enemies-busting build for any character. The closest thing to that are the 3-necro-ways called "Sabway" and "Discord" (look them up at www.pvxwiki.com), but these hero setups require quite many skills from all over the whole Guild Wars, and you need to play halfway through Nightfall and EOTN to unlock these heroes.
If you were a full grown level 20 character and have all of the available skills in the whole game at your disposal, there are probably a few classes and builds that could probably beat some of the first few missions in the 4 campaigns, but none could beat them all. Without elite skill - impossible. And it would take much more time than going with a full team, so nobody is doing this.
Going as minion master as a necromancer in the first missions is a very good choice. Continue. Consider switching to the curses attribute later, when you get more useful skills from that attribute line. A curses necromancer is one of the most powerful classes/builds available, if supported by the appropriate team. But alone, he is nothing.

I would say the closest thing you could do to sitting back and watching would be to run a SoS rit, some people say its boring cause you just use spirits then watch them kill, but that sounds like what you want and its good enough that you can use it anywhere and you should be able to do the entire game with an SoS rit if you dont have bad heros. and if you only want to get to know the story line (for when GW2 comes out?) then you will just be playing in normal mode so its all easy and you dont need really good heros.
majoho
^ He'd still have the same "problem" - you cannot be all powerful when you just start the game, you need to get the elite skills and whatnot first.
Eluvatar
true thou if he has played though some of the game I suppose he could get an elite rit tome and unlock some skills if he wants the easiest play that he dose not have to work too hard at that's the best

I'm playing Prophecies, but I did manage to come across the MOX Hero, who is helping out quite a bit. I do enjoy the Minion Master bit...my Bone Horrors are level 18 (only summon I have, though). But like I said, playing with Henchmen is my only option. None of my friends play, and I can't find groups in-game. Once I get a decent army going with the Necromancer life is good, but without some Henchmen to do the killing for me, it's pretty much GG, /surrender. I used to play a little bit of a Warrior/Elementalist in the Prophecies campaign a few years ago, and seemed like I could just dive in without Henchmen and take out waves of enemies by myself.

I don't see a W/E would be that much better, I think you should stick with your MM.
Unless ofc you buy Nightfall then I would use a Hero as MM since they are better than real players at least as a minion-bomber.
Overall I just think you should evaluate your build and use the right henchies and you should be ok with your necro.

Aight, thanks Majoho. It would be a rather pain in the ass to make a new character as my Necro IS 19 : /
majoho
Well I assume you are in the desert then, not long until you can get some elites
Arctica
Get Aura of the Lich as soon as you can. Though it will only be available for capping in the very last mission of Prophecies, you will love it as an MM, believe me
Until then, as majoho said, if you are in the Crystal desert, you are close to get some nice elites for your necro.

I spent a long time playing a character that only had Prophecies, so I have some idea of what you are going through. If you are following the storyline you must not be far from getting to the Shiverpeaks, where you'll be able to cap' Spiteful Spirit, which in my opinion is very helpful.
It looks like you have other campaigns though, since you said you managed to get M.O.X. I'd suggest you get out of Prophecies a bit so you can see the difference between campaigns and how leveling can be easier. I understand what you are saying because I do play solo too. : )
Oh and answering your main question, I play solo as a SoS Rit and it works just fine.

warrior or ele will do you good.
as for your necro, try sticking barbs on your bar.

I also do play SoS Rit and soloing is extremely easy. But you do need to be kind of deep into the campaign to get the elite. (Kurzick area in Factions) It's a very effective build. As for you playing alone, you could always join a big active guild to play with you.
pinkeyflower
Depends on what area you're playing. You can check out www.pvxwiki.com for suitable builds.
Horace Slughorn
Play paragon.
Eragon Zarroc
an imbagon(paragon) is pretty uber for h/h play since it gives so much dmg reduction to a party.
Necrotic
Getting something besides bone horrors would be good too, minions would help as would fiends. Maybe as an assist bring MOX as an AoDwayna derv...very useful.
